In his prime, he could have wore the number 10 jersey in a mid/high European club ("europa league winning team" level for example) or could become a strong substitute in a top club: one of those reliable and skilled guys who are not really first choice in their role, but play quite a lot of minutes in a season.
People was kinda skeptical because he's american, but he was definitely a good player.
