Hey kids! Its your good buddy Uncle Ben here, and on today's Weekend Wankshop, i'm spilling the beans on my favorite secret cheater technique that you can use to play scalding hot licks TODAY! This trick is perfect to use for Eddie Van Halen or Nuno Bettencourt-style repeating licks, and it doesn't require any kind of high speed alternate, sweep, or economy picking! There's barely any picking at all, actually.
In this lesson, i'll show you the trick to making this work, an original lick utilizing, then we will talk a bunch of tips and variations you can use with this technique to make it your own! Adding a little palm muted legato is perfect for getting those Nuno/Rick Graham sounds out of this, and its easy to do!
Playing my Suhr Modern Satin through the Fractal Axe FX III. Petrucci rig (082) learning to lead scene.
Thanks for watching! Let me know in the comments what else you'd like to see on future WW lessons! - Hudba
And uncle nephew Ben Eller is one of THE best teachers. I would never have the patience to STEP BY STEP DISECT AND EXPLAIN a legato lick in CLOSE DETAIL! Id tell the kid its one of those things ya have to figure out lol.
NICE!!!! I've met Nuno MANY A TIME here in Detroit and still never figured out how he pulls it off!!!! Can't wait to meet him again. Going to take this video into LIKE!!!!!
Nuno bettencourt, easily one of the most underrated greatest guitar players ever, the guy plays technically very well, and very soulful
Underrated indeed, it's not like his name comes up in litterally every guitar tuts on the interweb... oh wait...
@Rex Gridge I disagree, some of extreme's music is kinda trash but his melodic composition is tremendous.
More than words ruined the whole world's perception of that man. He's a phenomenal guitarist. Luckily, the royalties for More than Words probably more than compensate him.
@@skobywankenobi that's pretty sad even considering more than words is a very well written song, I love the little nuances in the harmony that he plays with.
@Rex Gridge I disagree. More than words sucks but he/they have quite a few great songs.
Also one good example of this pattern would be Sweet Child O Mine outro solo (end bar), Slash uses this same pattern in E mixolydian.

A nanosecond? More like a Nunosecond
Khoshekh566 my god, that joke was waiting in plain sight and I MISSED IT!!!!
Good one 😆
Bill & Ted: Most triumphant wordplay dude!! *Air guitar *
Is that from the Joey Gladstone joke book? Cut-it-out!
Man... I laughed at this a lot more than I probably should have.
Super cool lesson. Love these quick licks videos. I rarely have time to learn whole solos. This helps a lot
The "divide and conquer" approach is, generally, a great way to tackle/fix issues and learn things. On this one in particular, separating the picking movement from the rest of the riff, is one of the best things I've ever seen. Kudos Ben, you're a magnificent teacher!!!
This is probably the most useful guitar lesson I've ever had. Thanks Ben, you're an utter legend!
Love your break downs of your technique. And so humble. Thank you.
Ben I like the way you really go in depth and explain what you are doing.
You are an awesome teacher, Ben! I always learn something new, from every vid I've seen of yours. Thanks a bunch for taking all the time, and hardwork. :)
Extremely well thought out and fully explained , including options. This is the the kind of Lesson that really makes a huge difference in my playing and interest in going through all of your Lessons. Thanks and stay safe. 🎸
A new Uncle Ben Weekend Wank Shop video? I'm on it faster than a cheetah on a speed boat! Cool riff to get under our fingers and thanks for breaking it down so well.
Good lesson, Uncle Ben! Paul Gilbert talks about this lick technique a lot, too.
Awesome lesson Ben just what I needed. You are a great teacher, and I am a teacher! Thanks for sharing.
As usuall best lessons online out there - thank's Ben !

So many kinds of awesome in one... Your delivery and banter is totally 80s for me👌👌👌👌👍👍👍
Thanks Ben!!! Will be glad for a whole video about palm muting! It drive me insane!
It doesn't matter if the notes don't sustain, because they last a whole Nuno-second.
HUGE thank-you Ben, for doing all & sharing your talent all the best, \ peace/ Jay.
this is the lesson i've been looking for for 30 years, thanx!
Wow! That was awesome! I was shocked I can do it fast even before the vid ended.. but it tires me really fast too.. so I gotta practice my endurance more. Thanks for the vid Uncle Ben!
Awesome lesson!
Definitely going to work on this, thanks Ben.
Thanks man, very helpful for my keyboard licks and leads. Phenomenal playing and teaching 🤘 EVH and Nuno influenced me as well, big-time
Excellent as always. Have fun.
🔥 Pentacostla scale
”Duude play it faster dude...”
another great vid by good old uncle Ben, keep em coming!
Sweet thanks for the lesson...Brian setzer uses this technique alot to ..great lesson ty
great little ditty Ben.....
Top notch. I never realized playing one note on the sixth string and doing a pull off on the fifth string gives me 3 notes so effortlessly. Definitely subscribing to your channel. Your other material is also top notch. Thank you.
Great video. One of the best speed tutorials I have ever seen

Hey duder enjoyed that lesson and the 1 bfore nice digestible chunks that were broken dwn and not over complicated Thanx helped me!
A+ video, great technique and suuuuuuper easy to understand.
Awesome cheers Ben
Another great vid. Thanks Ben!
Great vid!
Some of the best guitar vids on all of CZcams. 🙌
Great lesson. Thanks.
GREAT stuff, as always!
Nice lesson to share.
Thanks for showing the lick in slow motion, other dudes don't take the time to show u right, I learned the pattern before the video ended Thanks again I will be following u
I learned to do this same lick but hammering from nowhere on the G and picking the B. Great for doing those insanely fast Blues licks like in Freebird as well!
Good on you! Broke it out! Keep it up, bud! Great vid!
Thanks for the lesson. This is exactly the kind of video i was looking for. Im trying to learn a similar style pentatonic lick but instead of starting on the 5 fret it starts on the 8th with a pull off to 5e. Then it goes 8b back to 5e then 8-5 pull off on the b string. I was really having trouble going back and forth with my first finger. But i think covering both strings and rocking back and forth like you're showing is the ticket.
Damn I love your videos Uncle Ben.
I can almost always play the thing up to speed by the end of the video cuz you explain it so well.
We want more NUNOOOOOOO 🤘 a variation on Nunos picking is, that the second note is picked with a downstroke and the last note is a hammer on. Just checked that on a lesson here where he is teaching/showing the GET THE FUNK OUT solo. Greets 👍 awesome lesson, uncle Ben, thanks 🙏
One of the best teachers!
Very Nice, Great Lesson, you had me a Van Halen!
Holly shit ben. This tech rocks. It put my begging soloing to a new level. Been playing 29 years as a rythum player now my soloing getting much better that is to your vids. Thanks brother
Luv you uncle Ben
Great idea. Thank you UB!
Thanks Ben 😊👍
The first 4 seconds of this is up there with the very best of youtube.
Ben's a super guitar stud. Thanks again Ben.
coyote mangan ❤️❤️❤️
I LOVE Uncle Ben!!!!!!!
Exactly what I need. Speed is my weakness. Thanks.
This guy Ben is REALLY good!
🎂🎸 Just saw your CZcams award on the wall - Congratulations Uncle Ben 🎸🎂
Thank you for being inclusive to downstrokers.
Working on the exercice right now (at Step dad speed). I hit the high E with my middle finger and only use the pick once. Albert Lee style. Combining two things i'm currently working on, chicken picking and speed.
That's a cool lick!!!
Uncle Ben you're the greatest
From step dads everywhere thanks for the tricks!
Only the cool kids like the super bad blazing rock n roll Fury licks Uncle Ben, luv this like, now i can burn up the neighborhood tonight
Great lesson Ben! Just saw you with Andy Wood the other day in Asheville. Phenomenal playing by all and a shout out for Seth Rosenbloom as well. Happened to be passing through from Texas and can’t wait for you guys to make it down there sometime. Everybody do yourself a favor and see/support these guys!!!
Red Rocker thanks so much man! That venue was lovely.
2:00 I don't know whether u realized it or not but u accidentally play the hardest riff ever.
Isn't it funny how things all link together? I was just watching a video of Ritchie Blackmore earlier, where he's talking (junk) about Joe Satriani replacing him in Deep Purple. I've never really thought of Ritchie Blackmore as a shred God or anything like that. I saw Rainbow in 1980 at the first Monsters of Rock concert at Castle Donington in England. Considering that Judas Priest and Scorpions played, along with others, Blackmore was not the best guitarist on the ticket, you would think by his attitude that he was though.
Judas Preist and Scorpions over Blackmore????
Lmaooooo
Yeah Ok
Live2Shred Scorpions in 1980! That must have been amazing! No offence to Priest or Rainbow.
Man, I love Ritchie but he's a sourpuss. I never want to meet him because it will probably make me sad and I'll hate him lol
@@northeastbirdsmore2281 Tipton over Blackmore? Absolutely
Thanks brother.
Cool lesson. That opened some doors.
Ben, love your work! I'd really like to see you break down some Baroness tunes, specifically Morningstar for the complex lead line in the verse and chorus. I haven't seen many people cover it in any detail.

Cool lick. Played like this for a long time and was always pulled towards legato. Now that im trying to learn a solo with just picking im having a really hard time.
This reminds me of those picking variations Marty Friedman teaches on, I think, exotic metal guitar. It's one thing but it's 3 or 4 different picking patterns that really changes it well.
Best guitar teacher on the tube. And he's funny.
Excellent!
Niiiiice one! Apreeeeeeeeeeesh!
you good sir have just got a new subscriber
That Axe FX III sounds great, brother.
Dude Rock n Roll Fury is you, haha great lesson Uncle Ben, your the coolest, i luv Nuno too
I watched this video and realized Brent Hinds uses this technique on Hearts Alive! Thanks UB
This dude is hilarious and awesome!
Popped up in my feed and was a welcome addition! You got yourself a subscriber Rubber Ducky!
Bass ackwards Ben - that's what I love about you! You should just have a few beers and do a video where you talk - no playing required! I'd certainly watch it. :-)
Can’t wait for your Kemper VS AxeFxIII video ;)
Thanks Bro!
Nuno and Vito, two of the most underated ever..
tnx for this vids sir
Awesome Yet again! Would you mind doing a lesson on the solo for White Lions Don't Give Up, off the Pride Album?
