Hey kids! Its your good buddy, Uncle Ben, here with a lesson on 3 shred strategies you NEED to know about to achieve maximum speed! These 3 tricks will help you create EASY high speed alternate picked lines in no time. I made this lick in A minor up to demonstrate these principles in motion and hopefully give you some ideas about taking these concepts into your own playing so you can create your own! Grab that axe and get to work!

This is the reigning champion of all guitar instruction CZcams channels, and that is not an easy title to defend. There's a lot of great channels out there, but this one has been the best for years.
Great lesson. Thanks!
97 Stratocaster Totally agree, best teacher on the internet
100%
I love Ben's attitude and humor. He's the kinda guy I'd like to kill a 24 pack of Yuengling with. Paul Davids is also good.
Sir, Troy Grady is the unquestioned king. Just ask Ben hahaha
@Malcolm Reynolds i totally agree with you!!
I'm now able to play Smoke on the Water after this Wankshop. Thanks Uncle Ben!
Sanjeev Kalra Try playing it twice. It’s much faster!
I still can’t get it right. I get stuck on 2nd power chord.
Haha I don't think Uncle B got the joke... In case you haven't noticed he's not the most tightly wound string in the machines. It takes him 2 hours to go a mile down the street because its easier to drive if you only make right turns.
Ben Eller gives you the keys to the Lamborghini.
Michael batio is my guitar hero. his speed and precision are my ultimate picking goals. i want to combine it with tosin abasi's opend hand techniques and sarah longfields tapping, to create my ideal technique.
@@enigma-g5549 how's it coming along?
@@iluvyunie getting there. i sprained my wrist at work and it set me back. but i'm a lot further than i used to be. still tripping on the pick profiling. but that's only because phrases i play are traditionally consistent. basically i improv too much haha.
@@enigma-g5549 That's awesome dude! Don't let that wrist set you back too hard. It's great that you're still going and I hope I can say the same for myself in a year's time. Progress is progress anyway right?
@@iluvyunie yeah bro. what i learned to do is not compare my process to others. i've set a goal for myself and decided that i'll reach it on my own terms and in my own time.
BTW, your sense of humor and communicating style somehow makes it easier to learn. Keep it up.
Never heard it explained like this. Because of this video, I had an "Ahh haa moment", "oh that's how they do it". I REALLY REALLY appreciate this video!!!!! Practiced it for an hour or so, before I knew it I was shredding a bit faster & smoother than ever before. Before this video, I honestly could not shred for the life of me. Uncle Ben, seriously... thank you sooo much for teaching this.
Me too.. I don't know a single shred until this video.. So much thanks to Uncle Ben.
Your sweater has inspired me to eat my breakfast cereal on the toilet tomorrow
Had a section of a solo I was working on, kept trying to use a tapping lick but wasn't happy with it. Threw this in (the technique, not the exact lick)... Suddenly my adoption papers caught fire and I became a real boy!
I'll even insta my first #weekendwankshop in a sec
LOL. That's awesome
1:02-1:05 - Breaking The Law :D Great tips and video!
I love this channel. Your demeanor makes it seem more like hanging out with a good buddy than it does learning extremely difficult guitar technique. You are a great teacher.
Hey, thanks for the lesson Uncle Ben! I’ve always been a pretty poor shred/solo player but the way you explained this really helped me out. I’ll be shredding in no time!
Damn thank you! Been working on triplets for years. You’ve solved ALL the aggravation (by the x2 deal!) Genius!!!!
Uncle Ben is the truth. Awesome lessons Ben.
Agree with all the positive comments. It’s the ability and knowledge combined with being a natural communicator that sets this apart. Cheers, Unc.
Ben youre literally the best! I've been watching your videos everyday for the last 2 weeks and have already seen a massive improvement in my playing and have learned a lot about what I have been doing wrong this entire time. Looking forward to becoming a patreon member! Keep crankin em out dude!
These videos always help me so much
Breaking down the struggle in step dad speed for alternate picking made it simple. Thanks!❤🤘🎵🎶
Very cool stuff and very well explained. This is a major break through in my playing. Thanks a lot 🤘👍
Very enjoyable videos, thanks for putting in the work that helps us put in the work.
I have seen loads of videos and starting guitar thrash speed death, you are right ,this guy as explanatory and teaching is brilliant.
This is fantastic! I picked up on the scale idea some time ago and it blew my mind! Great video
Thanks Ben you have a talent for explaining stuff clearly and simply !
i’ve made so much progress in just a couple months from this video and your muting vid. thank you so much. also your vid with tosin gave me some unexpected insight into hammer ons
This is pretty clever. Taking some basic picking solutions to create a lick that is chunk-able, based on some solid principles that can be used to make tens of other licks.
Nicely done Uncle Ben.
Dude! Thank you! As soon as I tried the 6 notes per string I understood. Such a small thing that made an immediate and big improvement in my playing!
Valuable information concisely delivered, thanks Ben.
Ben! love your lessons! Thanks!
I am seriously learning so much from your channel. Your lessons are smart, relevant, accessible and engaging. I've picked up ye olde axe after a 20 year break and you've help immensely with getting my chops back up to speed and given me plenty of new ideas. Thank you!
Brilliant..Great "Oh yeah!!"moment, turn em into 6, makes loads of sense, Cheers uncle Ben.
This was eye opening.....it has easily without even practicing made me a better guitarist the playing 6 instead of 3 made my jaw drop with how simple a change made everything fall into place. Why has no one ever told me this....omg thanks Uncle Ben
Excellent teaching style, I've been playing keyboards since 1980 and I pick up tons of soloing ideas and patterns from you brother🤘 translates nicely (minus the picking aspect)
Thank you so much for posting this. I have been working on the solo in Separate Ways by Journey, which has a very fast speed lick at th end which requires great skill with alternate picking. These tips will defiantly help me achieve my goal of playing this awesome solo. Once again, Thank YOU!!!! I greatly appreciate it
💖🎸💖🎸💖🎸💖
You're the best teacher. Kudos to you.
Great stuff, Ben!
Thanks!
This is a joy, because it at last gives you some real fluency with speed. Struggling with string jumping and loosing fluency at that point, drove me to just give up with alt picking. But at last I can move from string to string with a degree accuracy which gives me the impetus to get back into it. Thank you so much. 👍
Thank you. Just what I have been looking for to move forward
one of the smartest explanation of downward pick slating backed by an example i have seen. super good and awesome.
Thats another Uncle Ben Video I have to work through. Seriously good content on your channel, man, appreciate it.
Stroke in 2017 you helped me tremendously man. Ty Ben!
Not sure if what you taught here is same or similar to Troy Grady’s videos but I must say, I walk away from your video understanding this method and knowing I’ll be applying it to my playing for sure. You gave me something I can use. Not to diss on Troy too much but you holding your fingers up and picking across them like strings demonstrated the downward picking concept so much better than the fancy animated graphics in Troy’s videos. Thanks Sensei!
Great stuff Ben!
Good advice! Thanks, Pop!
This lesson is excellent man, I’m stoked to try it! Thanks uncle Ben 👍🏻
Best of your videos I have watched yet - thank you!
Great video Ben - thank you! I have a hard time getting any real down angle in my picking due to some nerve damage in my hand... but I’m working on it and these strategies will really help.
Uncle Ben....you sir are a born teacher.....nice job my brother!!!
Uncle Ben. This is mind blowing. Will practice this tonight! Thank you!
Thanks. Always great vids.
Best guitar instructor on CZcams. Ben rulles!!!! thx man
One of your best lessons Uncle Ben! 🤘
This is one of the best guitar teaching channels I've ever seen. It gives a mediocre-at-best guitarist like myself the confidence to keep trying more and more challenging stuff. Great work.
Very good, that will be a future warm up routine for me. Thx a bunch.
Once again, a great lesson! You make what sounds like the impossible, all make sense. Thank you!!
Fantastic lesson. Thank you
Ben you have single handily helped me more than anything or anyone
Morbid Mike the Tenn-OG awwww!!!! Thanks a lot!
So this video started with an ad about how CZcams videos can't teach you how to play guitar. And all this video did was prove the ad absolutely wrong. Great tips and tutorials thank you so much!
NIce one to keep. A thousand thank you's, Baron Von Eller.
Great lesson as always Ben!
Great lesson Ben, thanks!
I LOVE YOU UNCLE BEN!!!
Just Wanted to say thanks.
Been playing various instruments about twenty years and guitar has been my main about ten years now.
I have looked for some videos to really explain pluntly these metal/neo classical things to me. You really got there.
I started playing when Kurt Cobain was still alive so you can imagine all my technique flaws I have to correct.
Thank you very much of these lessons. Will be donating on patrion someday when I am not living from hand to mouth.
Kodos!
Thank you! This is awesome.
Wow this is clean playing! Please never stop making videos! :D keep rockin'!
Oh man. Your alternate picking is so smooth and effortless. I can't stand it! Lol. I have been struggling with my alternate picking when up to faster speeds my entire life and it sucks. Yours is just so damn smooth. One of these days i'll get it down. Awesome lesson Uncle Ben, Thank you buddy!
Thanks, Ben!
Great concepts Uncle Ben!! Thanks for sharing! :)
Best online lessons. Period.
Top notch teaching ....many thanks
Brilliant! Thanks a bunch for sharing :D
Thanks, Ben! 👍✨
I just want to say that I was a total loser when I started looking at this channel, and I'm playing these exercises fast, easy, and without botched notes. I gotta say I think this channel has been my absolute biggest help in learning guitar.
Thanks, Uncle Ben.
Sorry about my english, but I have to thank you about this lesson ! Your tips really work on my way to play. This really was for me a useful lesson ! Your learning is cristal clear and effective. Thanks Ben, I just discovered your channel today, I still have a lot of vids to discovered. Thanks again and keep on the good work.
Rock and Roll!! 🤘😎 Thanks for the video!
That was a GREAT lesson. So very helpfull.... thanks uncle. Cheers mate.
Great lesson, Ben.
Thanks huncle Ben!! I feel like a super shredder now!!!
Love your concepts bro! You have a way of making things make sense.
Great lick mate. Very fun to practice!
By far the best CZcams guitar instruction offered. I'd be proud to have you as a step-son.
Wow, so nice! I liked a lot, thanks so much!
Man this is a brilliant lesson! Thanks uncle Ben!
Playing for years and this video is very helpful. Them damn 3 notes on a string! So simple I'm ashamed I never thought of doubling up to an even number. Ben you are a great teacher and person.
Yeah, he's giving away some of the secrets of the big shredders... Good stuff. All the speed can happen due to simple mechanics. Between Ben, Troy Grady and Claus Levin there's a lot of material!
Love it!!
That's real cool. Great tip!
Thanks a million for sharing this ... amazing!
I am amazed by how clean you played that at stepdad speed. That is surely harder than normal speed!
one of the best tips ever! great video and great channel
Wow! Meat and potatoes right there!! Thanks so much for this video. I have been working on the three note per string octaves for a few month now and while that has really opened up the fretboard for me and expanded my improvisational skills a lot, I wasn't developing much speed. I have to admit I judged this vid title as just another alternate picking vid. Boy, was I wrong! Thanks again Uncle Ben! Best biological step-dad ever!
Mate, recently discovered your channel and I’m loving it! Please keep them coming! Hands down the best channel on CZcams!
Great lesson.
...and the truth shall set you freeeee ! Why has no one ever mentioned this before? Why has it never even occurred to me to use even numbered patterns before? Been ploughing through scales forever thinking it'll get quicker over time but it never does. Thanks man
Excellent !
Nice job again thanks.
Ok so I sat one night and went over these patterns while re-watching Thrones, today I plugged in and just flew up and down the neck. These exercises really work, and well. As long as you practice you're all good. Thanks for the effort and time you put into these vids, you're the man Uncle Ben!
Excellent, merci!
Concepts transcending contexts, great lesson!
Convert 3 to 6 is a great strategy uncle Ben! Thank you!
So helpful ✨
Great video explanation!
Super shredder! 😂 Thanks Ben
Great tips for upstroke.. 👌
