The new Porsche 992 GT3, both with and without the wing, is one of the most hotly anticipated cars of the year - few cars elicit as many questions at events or on the internet. The newest GT3 is available with or without the wing - Touring trim, at no cost either way. Likewise for the transmission - you can choose the 7-speed PDK or 6-speed manual as a same-price option. The Touring package itself is mechanically identical to the winged car, with a 4.0L, 503 HP flat six, incredible race-derived suspension, and one of the world's most brilliant analog driving experiences. Is the six-speed still the one to have? Is it worth over sticker? Is it the best car in the world? These questions and more.
Porsche Cars, NA provided the vehicle, insurance and a tank of fuel for this review.

Felt this in my soul
One day
I have forty this week.
ThInGs ArE LoOkInG uP
Only $199970 to go
Harsh but accurate
The real point to be made here is Matt’s one of the first to drive/review a manual 992 GT3. Wasn’t expecting this awesome video!! :)
very true
That flyby shot at 8:45 looked like the car was going soooooo fast. Speed usually doesn’t translate that well on camera but holy hell.
08:51 I wonder how the farmers feel about that...though I am very appreciative of Matt and his great content and perspectives.
@@MyMostBeautifuCinema Must have been the part of the video he filmed in Mexico...
Thought the same. 130ish I bet.
Dude that was 110+ fs.
“You will be able to buy a GT3 manual”
“But I can’t afford it”
Me too. It's our fault though....😂
These prices are a bargain compared to what they will sell for in 20 years.
Even for those who can afford it, its hard to obtain.
Don't feel bad. I work three full time software engineer jobs so I can finally afford one but they won't sell me one anyway. They only sell them to scalpers
@@mg-by7uu Why would I feel bad. I'm working on the part of "can't afford".
So, I can't afford it yet....✌️
Bought a 997 Carrera S 6MT last year. Porsche is always a magical experience. Daily all day, always a smile per mile.
.1 or .2? Looking at 1 right now but can’t make up my mind
@@mh0072 get the .2, a far far superior engine and worthwhile incremental improvements to the switch material and exterior detailing. (I have a .1 C4S and a 991.2 GT3)
@@user-qn6yt3zx3w would you get a 991.1 gts or a 997.2 c4s if the 997 is 15k cheaper. First porsche experience and I wanted pdk as I’m coming from a 13 Honda Civic
@@AQWRobotyke both are excellent cars, the GTS models are quite sought-after. Not sure about the differences in PDK transmission between the two cars, but the engine is largely the same. I suspect there could be significant improvement in transmission between the two models.
Personally, I would get the 997.2 because it’s more of a 911 to me, smaller dimensions and in my opinion, better looking. It’s also the more visceral drive. The 991 is much quieter and maybe a touch softer too. Both cars are great, but I think the 997.2 is the one to get.
Congrats on the purchase! Hope you’re still loving it. Can’t wait til the day I can get mine.
To me this is the best 911. It’s almost a 911R with current spec.
Exactly what I thought. This thing is going to sell really well.
@@RadDadisRad ESPECIALLY at the price point. holy wow.
Agreed.
It’s better. True motorsport lump.
A 911 R isn’t even as good as a 991.2 GT3
The aluminum trim with the gold wheels and the Gentian Blue paint is just such a fabulous combination
Would go nicer with green colour
Yes love the blue, would be very happy with that colour combo. Every blue German car I owned was a great car.
That flat 6 howl is like nothing else. It’s worth the price of admission alone.
I just wish it had an option for the GT3 ducktail rather than the active wing from the Carreras
They've been testing one, presumed to be a new Sports Classic.
@@elmuerkoIf that is the case, then my prostate will be stimulated
I'm sure the aftermarket will be big anyways
if you paid them a handsome sum they could probably arrange that for you
@@elmuerko eh, looks like a gayer Turbo S from the spy photos. Besides, that ducktail is too big.
The sound the front lift switch makes at 16:32 is so satisfying
I love that the Touring is a spec now. And a no cost one too😍. And it still is the best looking version of the 911. Just like the 991 Touring was....
And that color with those wheels, wow!
This is the best sounding 6 cylinder ever made.
6 cylinder sports cars sound amazing as does 4 cylinder.
I agree it is next level. I wish they would have made the GTS with a de-tuned version of it... one can only dream
@@bighands69 I don't know what 4 banger you are talking about, but the flat-4 in the Boxster / Cayman, while a good engine is liked by no one because they sound like crap (Subie engine). Those cars sell at discount (or used to until the recent post-COVID insanity)
That is complete nonsense. I’ve owned several 911’s with better sound than this one.
@@nafnaf0
I am not specifically talking about Porsche and about sports cars in general. There are plenty of good sounding sports cars that are 4 cylinder most of them are classic cars.
So glad it has the manual!
the gentian blue+gold wheels got me feeling some way
and that's before we even get to the sound!
I think it looks better on the 911 than on the 718
"I need my own road"...I feel like this could be a thing in the future if a few wealthy car enthusiasts bought a bunch of private land and built an "Access Road" to a radio tower or something.
I thought it was called "Montana"?
This thing is fking beautiful
FYI: a polarized lens filter on your dash cam will eliminate the annoying reflections off the windshield.
To have spherical suspension parts means this must have some amazing damping control.. to get rid of the harshness on the bumpy roads.. what a amazing car and thanks for putting it through its paces enjoyed this one!!
Much much better than the other videos I've seen on this, thank you for being a true driving enthusiast
I'm seeing a lot of reviews of these cars but this is the best because you did it on these kind of winding roads.
Have to say not only is Matt a great driver very impressive how he can commentate without pause whilst hustling the car around the bends. 👍
This is the best video on GT3 so far. It answers all doubts I had. Im going to order one soon.
Your comments on the weight and consequence of the flywheel and the fine control needed to drive simply show you really are a driver, great POST
I appreciate that you always do exterior shots with sound. 👍
That is almost exactly how I spec’d it on the configurator. Literally only need about £12,000 of options.

i'd totally have this as a daily but dealers are asking 100k over msrp which is a disgrace to such a wonderful car
Ok so if its at 170k then its at 270k?
@@raymondguzman5083 yes, i have heard crazy adm in California. My local dealers are asking 30k over for winged and 50k over for touring. And I am a repeat customer, purchased a new 911 and a new gt4 from them in two years. The market is going nuts.
@@Mmgc4706 that's what happened right before currency collapse on Cyprus. People with cash bought something of value to dump the cash.
@@mikehertz6507 i really should dump my cash
@Hynea it’s both. Chip shortage and supply chains failures as well a Fiat currency destabilizing.
Great driving Matt!! Love the touring, great info on the flywheel, learned something new!!!
Dream car right here! I love that the Touring exists with basically fully GT3 running gear in a slightly more subtle package. This in manual would be my forever car.
stick sounds so good nothing like cutting the rug with a get rag wonder if the minze castle run is still as fun
Nice to see Matt so happy...and so are we watching this...
The wheels look amazing I must say. Simple design, yet striking to look at
Great review Farah! 👏 enjoyed this one.
This is automotive perfection. One of the best one takes. Ever.
OMG that sound! Might need to cut together a just the noise version of this car.
Got a 997.1 GT3 Lapis blue very close to Gentian blue. Love the colour and the gold wheels do me nicely. Agree you need the 18 ways comfort seats. Mine has that. You will thank yourself to choosing that option in the long run unless you are a tracking nut then that’s another story. 👍😂 happy motoring.
Matt's One Take drives are the best, this one is excellent!! 👏👏👏
CJH doing his best to get out of the shot, lol. Love the shoes!
I think he was being his cheeky self
"Can you not get me in the shot dude?"
Who?
@@stuarts4673 Christian James Hand. He's in back of the walk-around shot. 1:39
@@verbname1429 I saw him, Just wondered who he was
Pretty cool where you made that U turn I used to live a few houses up that street in Piru. Another road you can do are the back roads to Fillmore just stay on on that same street go all the way to the 126 highway cross the highway and head down that road a mile or so make that left and you're on your way on the back roads to Fillmore. Lots of fun on those roads growing up.
15:50 The 4.0 liter in the 997 shares none of the same architecture as this car. That one was a Mezger and this is a ground up new design based on the 991.1 which was not a Mezger
The 997 4.0 was God’s own engine, us mere mortals will never know…
But, the 991.2/992.1 GT3 engine is totally spectacular!
Watching this video make me feel so relaxed. Love it
Im in love with the interior and how this thing looks and sounds. It sounds so amazing 😍😍😍😍
Love the review Matt. Thankyou sir.
Dude you review and drive these cars how they should be!!!!!! Definitely getting one of these for the fleet!!!!!
The tracking shots on 11:30 is a notch up than your usual one take. Looks like a new camera? I like it. 👌🏼
If I could afford it this would be my one and done car. I could use this every day no sweat. Absolutely love the paint and those rims! Love the gold/bronze rims like those offered by Porsche
I really like those chase car shots, good cinematography, good review, and an excellent car.
The refinement, sound, revs and driver engagement - absolutely glorious.
Good on Porsche. What a fantastic driving experience that must be; and it looks really good. Manual transmissions forever!
Thanks for this most excellent treat. Those decades of Porsche relentlessly perfecting the 911 have always produced the best sports car in the world. Its the benchmark.
Any chance of a "Just the Noise" edition?
I did that with the GT3 with the wing, which sounds exactly the same as this car.
@@TheSmokingTire But that wasn't manual. Upshifting with a manual sounds even better to me.
Pretty sure his 18 hours is over, buddy
Y’all love to complain about anything huh
The manual goes :“ BWWWAAAARRRrrrrr…BWWWAAAARRRrrrrr…
And the PDK goes: BWWWAAARRRrrrrBWWWAAARRRrrr
Considering downsizing my house to a cardboard box and buying one of these rippers.
That car might hold its value just as well too…
You can live in a car but you can’t drive a house 🤣
U might need to sell the cardboard box in case u go crazy on the options
I got a sweet whip. Been homeless all year. Indeed you cannot drive a house.
that sound.....perfection
I cant wait to see the reviews of the 911 GTS manual vs This. 7 Speed Turbo vs 6 Speed NA.
Because you cant understand what the difference would be?
@@chadbarbaro because I would like a first hand experience of the NA 6 speed vs the GTS Turbo 6 w/ 7 Speed. Its going to be wildly different experience for those two
Killer review man! This is definitely my favorite modern car!!!!
Excellent review, thank you.
Very nice review Matt... love the car, agree with your seats preference, for daily this car!
This is my dream car. Even if I can afford something double the price… I’ll still always want this.
That's what I love about the 911 and Porsche in general. They're not flashy, showy cars like Lambos and Ferraris, but they have the performance. Very driver focused. Yet they don't give up anything in quality and fit and finish and luxury to any other brand.
My next car will be a 911.
not sure about lambos, but it's almost criminal that ferrari no longer offers a manual tranny. that's why i'm here. i've never owned a vehicle with an automatic.
You should have shown everyone the 'no-lift shift' feature, Matt! great review, sir.
Matt w/the "manual!".
Well done sir!
What a ride, thanks Matt and Porsche!
What a stunning evolution. This is probably my favourite P car now. I’ll take it in a bright silver with some custom silver HREs and a slight drop thx 😇
I love the sound of this engine. Electricfacation can't do this. These cars are so fun. The feathering sounds good.
So so GOOD...sounds incredible.
What wonderful roads you have out there, with the most beautiful scenery
Camissa said that the reason Porsche's are geared so high was because of that stupid CA law you mentioned where they have decibel limits. I would imagine that if they could make an exception for the new gt3 then certainly they could look the other way if Porsche geared their cars a lil lower.
Or we could just get rid of all those stupid regulations. California ruins it for the other 48 free states. Hawaii is just as bad as California.
Car looks awesome! Great vid Matt! Cheers/B
Tank you again , excellent, simple and educational video !!!!
Great review! Interesting comment regarding the flywheel being lighter than the 991.2 GT3 6MT. What is the weight reduction for this flywheel vs the 991.2? Wish you had driven it on the same road that you had driven with Spike in your Carrera T vs GT3T video, that was a fantastic drive when you stretched the legs of the GT3T! I haven't noticed any need to feather the throttle in my 991.2 GT3 6MT either.
What an AMAZING spec! Thanks for this look at this fabulous machine. I am so glad Porsche has the courage and the will to still make their top supercar with a 6 sped manual. I am also glad that Porshe and CA worked out the ability to sell manuals here in CA. Either some money changed hands or the threat of a lawsuit by some rich and pissed-off Porshe buyers who pre-ordered the cars or both caused the change but either way glad it was fixed. Never was much of a Porseh guy but the 718 Cayman GT4 with a manual grabbed my attention and cars like this kept my attention. Again well done with the video.
This is my perfect spec I think. The wheels with the blue. oh my
The induction noise from in cabin is one thing Porsche does better than any other manufacture. That Germanic mechanical sound of the NA high revving flat 6 never gets old.
That was obviously a jab at C8 and Model S steering wheels and I loved all of it
Enjoyed this video. No BS and driving.
Looks good and clearly drives well. Can’t help but think the 991.2 GT3 touring looked the better of the two though.
These shots are getting so fucking good love it! Great content
Bout time you hit that 1M🍻🍻🍻. Congrats man🌅🌅🔥🔥
oh yes, been waiting for this one!
Thanks for another great video. It does highlight a problem I see with GT3 reviews. Reviewers don't mention that it's impossible to buy a new GT3. The way Porsche allocates these cars intentionally only allows scalpers to buy them to turn a profit. People like myself who have worked their entire lives to finally afford the latest naturally aspirated Porsche can't buy one - and probably never will with this hybrid/turbo heresy coming soon. My dream literally killed itself.
YES!!! Their allocation system is a big problem. I waited 6 mths to get my 2022 PDK GT4 allocation. It is due in Nov. finally.
The GT3 world is out of my range, but I hear it is even worse with those cars.
@@z06van21 Yeah it's crazy. They do the same thing for Playstations, computer graphics cards, etc. because lower supply increases demand. Now that you've bought a new car from a dealer they might sell you a GT3 if you want one someday
Excellent video , Mat.What a car !
Slight correction - this engine is not the same as the 4 liter Mezger in the 997 GT3 RS 4.0...this all new, starting with the 991 and gradually refined to this point...probably doesn't share a single part. To be fair...that is a hell of an engine too, both deserve a spot in the all-time hall of fame.
The video feels like an amazing racing video game, nice
Ordered mine in GT Silver, optioned it very minimal. Looking forward to delivery.
Saw this exact car on Angeles Forest hwy last weekend it was insane!
So in your Hagerty video with the big block Cayman, that car had revised gear ratios.. I wonder if that stuff works in 911s. Imagine how wild this would be with 60 at the top of second.
Probably the most perfect day-to-day car ever built.. and this Gentian Blue spec + gold wheels is just *flawless*
Perfection.
I kinda hopped they would leave the duck tail spoiler and just lose the wing.
But I will take it.
Looking forward to his review of the Lotus Emira.
Beautiful spec and exceptional car. Got a 718 gts 4.0 review coming up for us!??
Wow this sounds amazing!
Thank you for an awesome ride in an awesome car. Can’t believe I turned down an allocation for a PTS one…
🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤 (GT3). Matt this was awesome I hope one day I could share in the indulgence.
Beautiful looking car and agree the color matching front and that color is great. I think the Touring looks better than the GT3 with that huge wing. My idea of the perfect Touring... A Cayman GTS with DeMan 4.5 engine and manual.
It's refreshing to hear an American say they want a smaller sportscar. Now we're in agreement today's "sportscars" look like school buses! Shot out to the Audi TTRS, BMW M2, Lotus Emira, and the Porsche Cayman. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the Lotus Emira...
Love that Color Combo
5:00
Love it
THE dream car for me.. Interesting what you said about the difference in the new gen lighter fly wheel. Seems to mirror the issues of trying to ride slow single track with a 450 4stroke dirtbike. As with anything I'm sure it would become muscle memory over time but I wonder if this would become tedious in city driving. Your thoughts on preference of the standard vs PDK for this scenario?
This is absolute perfection. My envy is palpable haha
Hear you on the Clutch and Flywheel. I have a 993 with NO flywheel!! Revs like a motorcycle.
Sound track, rev limit, road adhesion is like no other. There would be one in my garage if I could afford it.
Dude the noise😍
