  • This is the new Porsche 992 GT3 Touring and today we are driving both the manual and PDK Touring back to back on road and up the Goodwood Festival of Speed hill climb! Mechanically the new GT3 Touring is the same compared with the 911 GT3, meaning the 503bhp 4-litre naturally aspirated flat-six engine, double-wishbone front suspension and 20- and 21-inch forged wheels all remain. Kerb weight is also identical, at 1418kg for the manual and 1435kg for the PDK, and so too is the suspension setup, lets see how they compare in this first drive review...

I'd love to see a comparison between the first GT3 Touring and the current model. IMHO, the "normal" GT3, esp the RS model, is often too "race car-ish" for me. The Touring variant envelopes all the great things about the Porsche GT3. And lets face it, even without all the wings and ducts and stuff, its still got plenty of presence.

That's how I see it... If I'd were to buy a Porsche it'd be because I want something outrageous that can ACTUALLY be daily driven, otherwise I'd but a Ferrari. But no Ferrari, or any manufacturer else for that matter, offers the "gt3" experience whilst keeping the daily driving capabilities. That's where porsche shines, a gt3 that I can drive painlessly to work, a small stop at the shop, cup of coffee with the most over developed cup holder, nice ride and when I decide, it turns into a gt3. It doesn't get any better than that as far as a car I'd actually love to live with... And for my wife an XC90 hybrid to move the kids around, she doesn't care lol

Owner of touring here, it’s still full blown GT3 on the road in terms of feel and stiffness but no rear wing. Also has a color matching front splitter to take off some visual “race car”.

This clip underscores the difference between James and the profusion of CZcamsrs who review cars. He understands the subtle differences that define handling. So when he's discussing the characteristics of the new GT3 it isn't the pretentious posturing of most, it is the reliable opinion of a man who knows what he's on about. His comment on the front-end grip of the GT3 resonated with me. Enjoyed this all-too-short clip tremendously. Well done, James...

I'm probably the only one that doesn't like the painted front bumper extension. Looks like a small duck lip. Not that the unpainted one is all that great either. The 992.2 is going to have the more traditional gt look - they do this all the time. Come out with one design that is slightly inferior and then the ".2" version will have a slightly more aggressive and pleasing appearance.

@@ifonly4486 Funny, I've been driving a manual for 46 years, when I first learned to drive with a "three on the tree" manual, and I'd still pick a good manual over a double clutch tranny every day. And I have, in fact, made that choice repeatedly in the years since. As far as being a hero, a perfectly executed heel and toe shift at speed on a track is as close to heroic as I can get. The PDKs are amazingly good boxes for efficient, quick shifts. And very cool, at least at first. But over time, they take some of the fun out of the dance between man and machine....

The issue of course is that you can’t actually buy one. Porsche needlessly limits production and dealers allocate them to favourite customers who may well then flip them for a profit. My dealer told me one customer had bought £1m of other cars to get one. There’s currently one for sale at £275k, £100k more than a heavily spec’d one costs at list. I have a 991.1 PDK and a 991.2 manual. I tried to get a 992 and failed so I am buying an 812 GTS instead. At list.

  • @costafilh0
    @costafilh0 Před rokem +1

    That's exactly the point!
You can have GT3 daily driving experience not having to look like a douche on the road with that massive wing!
The GT3 Touring is the road car and the GT3 is the track car! PDK and Manual available on both is optimal too!
The fact that it's a perfect copy of the GT3 is a pro not a con imo. Or people would just buy the GT3 and remove the wing.
Most people are not comfortable with modding cars btw. Another reason for the Touring to exist.
Also an excuse for those who can to buy both!
The track car with all the light weight stuff like bucket seats focused on performance and safety with the cage in a crazy color.
And a road car more focused on drive enjoyment and comfort in a more subtle color and bigger fuel tank.
I think it's perfect! I will certainly have both!

Ah yes Porsche... They've done it again... I think the coloured front bumper works with the silver car... Not so sure about other colours... I have one for sure..oh in fact I'd have 2...one manual one PDK.

Am I seeing things, or does the silver car have a manual gearstick despite having flappy paddles?

you can switch to use the gear selector. Watch remove before races video that was just posted - it's in depth

I wish the 992 gt3 had the painted bumper. That was one thing that caught my eye right away when they revealed it for the first time. I have a 991.2 and the painted bumper looks so good, couldnt imagine it half black and plastic looking like the 992.

There is nothing to stop you going to a reputable body shop and getting the front bumper painted if you feel it would look better.

Jonathan White True, but we are talking about a 200k car….I’m not into spending more money to have a painted bumper.

Maybe 4 seats would make up a great spec for the touring version, would make it more approachable for even more people

I actually wish that they would offer a rear seat delete option on a regular Carrera
