Yes, which will never stop being hilarious instead of scary. I'm waiting for the one filled with bunnies or kittens or puppies now. I get that there's people that have phobias of snakes but there's people that have phobias of puppies too so you know it hits about the same for me as a nonphobic. At least with dog phobias there's an actual threat but snakes are so incredibly benign unless you're actively trying to kill them and they happen to also be venomous somehow that it's just funny. Oh no, not an animal that's almost incapable of defending itself whatever shall I do?😂
@@darcieclements4880 agreed. I just get a little disgusted by "a lot of things making one thing/pretending to be a person" stuff, like a guy made of a hundred of [insert random animal here]. This kinda actually goes along with our natural instincts, because a horde of any animal reminds us of maggots/verms/insects infestations, which can actually be unsafe, because can spread diseases and it's usually around rotten food, that's also bad for your health.

Given the shopkeeper's insistence that he is still able to sell snakes, to the point of harassing a guy into getting one, I think something about his weird curse means that if he doesn't sell them, he becomes them.
Reminds me of the dice. There was a big emphasis on "ownership" with them, too.
Oh, I assumed he was puppeted by the snakes. And they just wanted someone to take another one of them home with them to infect their home.

@@happymystake4123honestly no matter how I look at it I’m not sure how to classify it as anything other than pure corruption. So far most of the entries in TMP seem much more like collaborations between fears or perhaps grey areas, but I can’t think of a secondary fear at play here tbh.

A more simple episode, but still very interesting!
1. I appreciate how Alice is genuinely trying to keep a brave face while her friends date. She really _does_ want them to be happy, but she can’t help feeling a bit hurt, since she still has feelings for Sam (and maybe for Celia too? 👀), but she doesn’t want her feelings to discourage them if they really like each other. I’ve been in similar situations before, and it’s not fun. (Give us a throuple, Jonny. Give us a throuple, Alex. No love triangles. Give. Us. A. Throuple. 😘)
2. Lena seemed… antsy. What did Gwen do? …Or what did she _not_ do? Lena did say that her new Externals assignment was rather urgent, before, but what if Gwen is hesitating too long, because she doesn’t want to be responsible for another death? Maybe she’ll see what happens when an External isn’t given a proper target, and instead goes on a rampage or something. That could be rough, but very informative.
3. GREAT STATEMENT!!!! That sudden switch from the regular report to a genuine, personal statement was _chilling!_ Fantastic work! I always wondered which category snakes would fall under, Corruption or Hunt, and while I’m sure an argument could be made for either, depending on the context, or a combination of both, this one seems pretty solidly Corruption. The dude was like a flesh hive, but with snakes rather than bugs! Amazing! 😃
4. The shop owner had rejection letters from an institute? Interesting… what was he rejected for, I wonder…? Was this rejection before or after he became a bunch of snakes in a man suit? The statement is from 1995, so a few years before the Magnus Institute burned down. I still have some speculation to do, before I have a solid theory… 🤔

Venomous snakes could fit under End as well, they're a pretty good symbol for death. Poisons that just break tiny parts of the intricate machine that is a body, just enough to make the whole thing fail in cascade.

As a snake owner, it has been a fear of mine since day 1 of having my snake that he'll break out and find some hole in the wall or an appliance and ill never be able to get him out.

A friend of mine once thought their ball python was lost/ran away/dead. They looked everywhere, put up fliers, searched the whole apartment complex - nothing. So they just thought it was legit gone. A few months later, they had moved to a new place. One night they got a call from their old landlord - the python had slipped out of the walls, and the *new tenant* found it just chillin in their living room. Poor guy!

@@alexasprout7578 that's why recall training is so important. Mine won't come when I call her if she's not in the right mood but once she's ready and she knows I'm looking for her she'll come over even if I lose track of her briefly. I always do as much recall training as I can with all small animals and so far I haven't really encountered any that don't learn it to at least some degree

The earliest dream I can remember having as a baby was a nightmare about a disease that spread through contact and turned people into snakes. If we get another slithery episode this season, I'm gonna start calling it a theme.

I was initially unsure about this one, but I've put Corruption due to the "vomit a bunch of snakes" curse's infectious nature and the brief mention of the Magnus Institute.
It is also possible that, due to recurring themes of alchemy during the ARG, the Institute in this world is run by a power based on transformation, explaining both the Institute's involvement, and this guy's insides turning into snakes.

Interesting episode, not too much to be done in the way of theorising but here I go. Alice is obviously in denial about still having feelings for Sam but is using her humour to cope. Gwen is probably either struggling to get sleep or doing her own private investigation into the OIAR without Lena's prying eyes watching her. Lena herself is probably annoyed that Gwen has been late to work so much. Sam is just fed up with nobody giving him answers (ah he's going to be such a good avatar of The Eye). As for the case itself, seems to be Corruption this time: emphasises the threat of disease, filth and pests and describes the sound and movement of the snakes across the floor and in the walls.
The only thing that sticks out is the obvious nod to the Magnus Institute, and that the shop owner Anthony Walker was rejected by them. I checked the list of children from the enrichment program that Sam and Gerard were a part of, but there isn't an Anthony Walker there. However, there is an Aaron Walker and a Ruby Walker, could be unrelated but could also be siblings/deadnames.
Aaron scored low across the board with the exception of the Milgram and Asch sections, which seem to be testing whether a subject prioritises obedience over their own empathy. Ruby had pretty average scores but low scores in the Milgram and Asch sections. We don't yet know what a low and high score means for these sections, but Gerard also had low scores and if he's anything like his other world counterpart he's probably a bit of a rebel. So it could be that a low Milgram and Asch score means the subject favours empathy over obedience.
Its possible that Anthony knew he was becoming an avatar and went to the Institute for help, but was rejected and thus spiralled into the situation we see in this case. Lol, I know I said there wasn't much theorising to be done but still wrote this much!

@@AngelCakes1997 1) The only snake I can remember being associated with the Extinction was the inorganic one that bit that one guy and filled him with concrete in MAG 149. (And in that one, it was still somewhat Corruption coded, as well.) Overall, I never got the impression that snakes are intrinsically connected to the Extinction, at least not more than any other animal. Although, I could be missing/forgetting something.
2) Being filled with things falls under several Fears, depending on the context. Being filled with Spiders is Web, yes, but being filled with bugs of some kind and becoming a flesh hive is Corruption.
This statement definitely gives major Corruption vibes. (Mentions of mosquitoes, mentions of ants, mentions of rotten food, mentions of vermin, mentions of infection and flea bites, etc.) Replace the snakes with worms, and we’d have another Jane Prentiss on our hands. 😅
Sam seemed really irritated at the end, I wonder if he’s been doing more research on his own and is getting frustrated?

Ah hah, I have a Hognose snake sitting in his terrarium right next to me, and I had to turn and look suspiciously at him. (He just sits there and watches me a lot.) Yeah, I was going "Scales aren't that noisy normally!" 😄 They should have a whole vat of Hognoses attack somebody, Hoggies love hissing super loud, and they have fake hoods to spread and scare the bejesus out of people.
They'd have to be were-cobras or something though, cuz Hoggies are pretty harmless. :]

This is the shortest episode of the season, so far. All the rest have been at least 20 minutes long.
That’s par for the course, though. TMA season 1 was similar. Most episodes were 20+ minutes, but there were one or two, here and there that fell between 15-20 minutes.
Honestly this one seems extremely short .like low key Kinda disappointingly short I do understand these do take a lot of money, time and effort to produce.but lately they seem ridiculously short still very good content but just Rushed at least this esp did feel that way.

Finally caught up on the episodes I missed and OMG. Literally could not stop laughing crazedly at the statement - absolutely traumatising ending. I think its my favourite yet.
i miss early tma where i didnt have to read the transcript to know what's going on. its truly lovely that we have so many voice actors creating an immersive atmosphere but sometimes it gets tiring, when i was planning to be drawing or knitting while listening like with an audiobook but instead im glued to the transcript lol no offense

I love this series but I'm getting increasingly frustrated with the audio mixing. I could barely understand a word they were saying in the beginning and that's become a consistent issue. I hate having to go to the transcript for an audio show.
I have the same issue. I regularly have to increase the volume and rewind parts just to understand what's going on and properly head the lines, and I didn't have that problem with TMA.
THEORY:

I have a problem with Alice’s “confession” to Celia. It actually makes me kinda dislike Alice in a way that goes beyond “she’s needlessly mean sometimes”. Alice and Celia have had like 0 screen time together, and so it just feels so weird that Alice apparently has such strong feelings for Celia that she just can’t help but say something despite the fact her best friend is currently going out with this person, it just does not feel believable to me to the point where I actually want to believe that Celia is an avatar of some kind and her power is to make people want to have sex with her.
Who knows maybe that’s true, but if it isn’t then this scene just makes me feel gross, makes Alice seem kinda pathetic, and it really doesn’t help that I personally HATE love triangles.
Idk obviously this is largely personal preference but it definitely isn’t my favorite part of this otherwise great series so far.
I could be wrong, but I think you might be reading too much into Alice’s comment.
It came across, to me, like she was just trying to make a friendly, flirty joke to try and diffuse the tension of the conversation, but her delivery came across as awkward and forced. Joking seems to be Alice’s go-to coping mechanism. I didn’t see it as an actual confession of a crush.
I’m also not a fan of love triangles, but I don’t really see the current situation between Alice, Sam, and Celia as quite falling into that trope, at least not yet.
Alice seems to have some lingering feelings for Sam, but he only seems to see her as a friend now, so Alice is genuinely trying to be supportive and not get in the way of his new relationship.
Sam and Celia seem to like each other fine, but who knows if they’ll actually become a thing or not, since they’ve only been on one date, so far. Things are just still in the awkward, early stages of figuring things out, at the moment, for everyone.
I think she was joking, using humor as a coping mechanism.
I also hate love triangles, but I wouldn't mind seeing some poly representation on the show. It doesn't *have* to be triangular.
In the tmagp afterparty (or smth similar to that) alex did confess that he wrote the characters a bit mean and jonny had to tone the mean down a bit.
I did not take that scene to be a love triangle at all. I took that scene as somebody trying to be supportive of someone they still care about even though that person has moved on and is in a new relationship.

@@etienneporras7252 This reminded me of this one pirate cartoon where they were attacked by mer people. The pirate laughed and said they couldn't get them on land because he had what they hadn't. And a chorus sang, "Le-egs!" Then the mer people did some wrap around each other body horror thing and started "SLAP SLAP" chasing him on land.
Am I the only one struggling with the audio mixing? I appreciate the atmospheric background noises and the realism they add, but I genuinely cannot hear half of what the actors are saying and frequently need to rewind or turn up the volume and concentrate like my life depends on it. TMA was much easier to listen to, with TMP I need to relisten so much to understand what's going on, it's actually affecting my listening experience negatively

If The Vast were to drop Alice down a literal bottomless pit, I would not be surprised or too broke up. Such a miserable character.
We were warned that all of the characters were going to be pretty mean at some points- so there's a good chance Alice won't actually be all that much worse than everyone else turns out to be. I get the feeling she's got her own stuff going on that we don't know about at this point - but yeah, currently a pretty rough point for her character specifically with how she treats Gwen & sam. Her jokes definitely bleed into some angry or bitter territory a bit too often.
