  • www.autobytel.c... The Kia Optima went from being one of the ugliest cars in the automotive world to one of the best looking car companies. And the 2012 Kia Optima Hybrid may be the best looking hybrid on the market today. The Optima Hybrid is powered by a 2.4 liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 166 horsepower and 154 lb-ft. of torque. With the additional power from the electric motor the total horsepower output is 206. The 2012 Kia Optima Hybrid has a 6-speed transmission. Fuel Economy figures for the Optima Hybrid are 36 MPG in the city and 40 MPG on the highway.
Kia did a great job on the 2012 Optima Hybrid by maximizing interior space while keeping a sporty design. The double panoramic sunroof is a really great feature too! With a base price of $26,500 the 2012 Kia Optima Hybrid is a great choice for a fuel efficient mid sized car.

I would have liked to have seen some comments about ride quality, power output, handling, cabin noise, etc... This review was fine, but it just needs to be the first of two halves :)

I didn't say that the cars were similar. I said the grilles were similar to the point that the Kia's grille reminds me of the 1975 Honda Civic CVCC.

    28/32 mpg $28,000.-$33,000.
Despite all this car's good points, I don't see it becoming a major threat to the Toyota Prius. It's about the same price as a Prius, and the Prius gives you 50 mpg. So you are getting a significant extra 20 miles out of every gallon of gas.
Plus remember, many people who go Prius, do so because of Toyota's famous badge of reliability.
Granted, there's a bit of a size difference, but for $10,000. less you can get the Hyundai Elantra which gives you 40 mpg.

now ive seen later packages and what not of this car, i love the double sunroof and the additives but there is a cheaper somewhat similar package for 500$ that gets you the uvo and the 8way adjustable seats. is it worth getting the larger deal?

The video seems to be a commercial for the car. A review is supposed to talk about good and bad things of the car.

I disagree. Look at previous Mazda 6's and past Optimas. You will see reliability goes to the Mazda 6. With the new 2014 Mazda 6, Mazda has improved the reliability even more! Yes, its a new model but its built with quality and you can tell if you test drove it. I drove the Optima (2012) and I test drove one of the only available 2014 Maza 6's out there at this time. Yes, the Optima has the turbo option but lets have both race in areas where there is a lot of cornering........

I think hybrid technology is slowing down the high capacity battery technology advancement witch in the other hand should be in a hurry.

Nice review but not much of the car was actually discussed. Nothing about the handling, no good shots of the interior, no comments on the ride. Not enough meat with the potatoes.

2nd part.... And Mazda will brind the Mazdaspeed 6 and than look out! Kia has come a long way and I did consider the 2012 Optima but I looked at the company overall and they still have a way to go concerning overall reliability. I also know this one guy who bought the 2011 Optima and he hashad some issues with some of his electronics. But minor. So, lets just agree to that you think the Optima is better yet the proof is towards the 6!

i would never pay 26,000 for a KIA they talk about the warranty, i heard you cant do anything to the car otherwise the warranty gets void. i rather pick up an older IS350 for that price ;)
