- Kentucky Fried Chicken has been around since 1952, so it might come as a surprise to you that the ubiquitous fast-food chicken chain has only been selling chicken pot pies since 1995. And they only became available at all KFC locations since 2012. It seems like they've been there forever, doesn't it?
Part of that, of course, is marketing. KFC has hit the nostalgia button hard with its pot pie advertising, touting the menu item as old-fashioned comfort food. On top of that, they're also now essentially a KFC staple, as popular as anything else on the menu. If you're a fan, you may have wondered what exactly goes into KFC's pot pies, and one purported employee claims to have the answer. Yes, this employee video shows how KFC pot pies are really made.

What do you think about the pot pies at KFC?
In Today's world pot pies has a whole different meaning but hey who's complaining not I
It's not gourmet dining but it's decent and you get a good portion..a thumbs up in my book 👍
I'll pass.
I love them! Their sauce is better than my homemade!
I think they are the best, still waiting to try Marie Calendar's in The Restaurant.
I used to buy KFC for my mother’s dinner a lot. She loved their chicken. One evening I decided to try the pot pie so took 2 home. We both loved them! I started buying more of the pot pies than the dinner boxes after that! I just get one pot pie these days and imagine Mom is here eating with me.
I'm really sorry to hear about your mom but she is always with you brother
I love their pot pies. I wish I could buy them uncooked so I so take them home and bake them fresh when I want one.
When they were being sent frozen from the factory, I bought them frozen. Now I guess they’re made fresh in store. I miss the frozen ones too! 🌷
Best to get their pot pie when they first open. They fill it with the filling to the rim & it is piping hot. 🤤💞
The potpies are the best thing they sale at KFC, in my opinion!!! I wish I knew the exact ingredients that they use in the crust!!!! That's my favorite part of the potpie!!! 😆 🤣 😂 And I think it's wonderful that they do share their left over chicken
Just use frozen puff pastry when making at home
I agree, I think the crust is by far the best part of the potpie. That's not to say the rest of it is bad but I just love the crust so much.
I Googled the recipe..
Yasss... the crust. That is what brought me to this video. I'm searching for what is on the underside of the crispy crust, it's sooo freaking good. I can't even pinpoint what the flavor is but it helps make the whole pot pie.. I have to have some crust in every bite I take of chicken, carrots, etc. 😋
Had a KFC potpie for the first time yesterday and I can say, it's probably one of the best potpie I've had for its price. You go to the grocery store nowadays and buy one frozen for the same price and it's not even as big and fresh. Good job KFC. 👏
That is the definition of fresh. Just because the chicken wasn't cooked that day, what does it matter? Well done KFC
These are literally my favorite 😍
And yes we know it's yesterday's chicken but shit people eat leftovers dammit 😒
The clip with the chicken digging for food after 3:15 while talking about toss out chicken is just priceless
I used to make their potpies when I was working for KFC years ago.
Every night when we were closing,my manager and I would de-bone all the left over chicken.that didn't sell that day and place it in the pot pie mix .
The potpies are definitely the best tasting on the menu.
Well the video was watched with apprehension. Luckily I was satisfied with the end results. I've been buying these pot pies for a few years and never got one that had questionable chicken or vegetables. The crust is always perfect. I reheat for a few minutes in the oven if I bring one home. These pies are light years ahead of those little round grey frozen pies in the freezer section of the supermarket. I consider those inedible. Not that's a horror story for a video in this channel. LoL
I love pot pies in general but many youtube and online reviews say there is a serious lack of chicken. It's insane that a chicken joint would skimp on chicken (as seen in the video its leftover chicken). I don't mind leftover chicken but they should be filling it up with more chicken than that. Knowing that its powdered gravy, frozen veggies and day old chicken, the price should stay low.
for $4 (the price shown in this video) they're a great deal... but now they're $6.49 where I am. A year ago was $5. :/
I’m actually surprised they make them in the store. I thought they came frozen. I make my pot pies the same way. I buy rotisserie chicken and debone it.
It was more fresh than expected. It easily could have been like those Marie Calenders frozen meat pies you get from Ralph's. Where no prices are lower prices than Ralph's prices. Right Billy? (inside joke - thumbs up if you got it)
I don't get it

How dare you in salt Marie calendars chicken pot pies
Marie calendars pot pies are a joke. They need to do better. 🤮
These are very good for the money at $5-$6 it rivals or even beats a lot of restaurant offerings that charge double for a chicken pot pie like Crackerbarrel or Cheddars
I wish KFC would add a bottom crust , it would make their pot pie even better , and their mashed potatoes could use some improvements , other than that their chicken is pretty darn good . 👍
Be cautious when purchasing pot pies from KFC. I recently found a large bone in mine, which caught me off guard and almost caused me to choke to death. The bone was hidden within the filling, and I can't shake the image from my mind of all the times I've fed my 1.5-year-old daughter bites of that same filling because she enjoys it so much. I could have easily given her that bone. It angers me that a restaurant like KFC would leave something as hazardous as de-boning chicken in the hands of a young employee who may not be more 16 years old. I assumed the filling came pre-made and was just put into pie tins by the employees and then baked.
I found one as well. It won't stop me from eating them, but I will be much more cautious. They really should come with a warning label, "may contain bones."
All pot pies not sold should not go in the garbage they should go through the drive-thru window for free as surprise gifts to drive in customers. I can't think of anything that would not get the attention of the public than this.
Who makes the frozen pastry crust for them...the best part of the pie! That with the mash n gravy and coleslaw..aw Im drooling.
Truly comforting. Breaking open the crispy flaky crust is therapeutic. You just know its going to be good 😋
I wish they would sell the pot pie worldwide.
There great, two of them are like a full-size meal for me.
If anybody thinks the way they debone the chicken and reuse it in pot pies if you've ever been to a buffet all the chicken soups or anything containing chicken is used from the night before baked chicken or fried chicken that was on the buffet they didn't show how they debone the chicken however in my experience I used to work at a buffet and they would take a big large bucket till it halfway with warm water submerged the chicken this helps and is very easy to remove the skin and the meat from the bone it's a common practice every buffet does the same thing guaranteed
🥧literally 1 of the only reasons I continue to go back to them cause it ain’t the customer service 😂 I love them too but they ain’t chik fil a but them pies is on another level
Love it 😍 I’m such a foodie , And I’m glad they didn’t take it away in the summer yum 😋
I didn’t know they had them . Now I want one
KFC pot pies are really great. Where else can you get a feast for $5. I think they need to add more chicken across the top before putting the pastry
lid on. Other then that they are good to go.
I live in canada and love KFC and I love chicken pot pies but I didn't even know they had them. They really need to bring them to canada so i can try them!!!
my go to!!!
If you want a really good chicken pot pie try Costco….it’s the closest thing to homemade and the flavor is top notch.
Or Sams club
I love the chicken pot pies but you cut back the size of the pan and don’t say otherwise they are good but bring back the original size♥️♥️♥️❤️
When KFC had a new promotion of these Pot Pies, I decided to try them. I bought 2 of them as they were on sale. I was so disappointed in them because I hardly found any chicken in either pie. Just veggies and gravy.
Wow, when I get them here in my town they are great! My son absolutely loves the crust…as do I. If there are any leftovers we add cheese when heating it up and then sour cream. Omg, so so good!
I've never had one with a bit of chicken & I've been getting them for years. Maybe it's your local KFC?
The ones at our KFC are loaded with chicken. You really should mention it to management that the workers are being stingy when preparing them.
I don’t know why anyone would complain about using leftover chicken. How do you think I make my homemade pot pies? Leftovers!
I love there chicken pot pie so what if it's made from leftover chicken that's what they used to do what years and years ago so what look at the Wendy's chili the hamburgers that are not sold from the previous day they cut them up and throw it into the chili it's no big surprise
In my town they taste like the cheapest frozen ones from the grocery stores.
That's how I make my pot pies .
I see zero problem with this. Same thing with Wendy's chili. Why trash perfectly good food? AND you can make a product people want? AND you make a profit? Only losers are the cow and chicken.
Best pot pie on the planet 💯
I wish KFC in Australia had these 😢
Oh!!
Just payed $9 for a pot pie that is basically empty underneath the bread… never again
Can you imagine going to Kentucky fried Chicken and ordering chicken and in the bottom of your sack you find a free pot pie because it has expired what a wonderful gift that would be and your return visit would be insured I think it would increase sales
I do not have an issue of using left over chicken in the pot pies. Less waste and, since the chicken and vegetables are in a gravy, it stays moist.
And now they're done..........
The flavor and spices are almost on point....needs a little more white pepper and salt. Pie filling needs more chicken (Last couple pies purchased had very little chicken) and what they contained was like having no chicken at all. Last is the crust to filling ratio.....Too much crust and that causes under cooked bottom crust. I had to purchase an extra drum stick and thigh to add when arriving home.
How is that different than any pot pie? ALL pot pies start with left over meat? Even at home?
One time I got a pot pie from KFC and it didn't have not one piece of chicken in it, I never got it again.
I hope you spoke to a manager. It’s complaints that help them improve their customer experience and recognize that there is a problem.
@@karawillis4767 No, I just never bought one again. I couldn't believe it, not one piece of chicken, I'm not crazy about Pot Pies anyway but I was disappointed.
That’s too bad, the one in my area has potpies with a bunch of chicken pieces all over the whole pie it’s very good
They are good..I think the meat should be cut a bit smaller..
Day old chicken or that "chicken" in frozen pot pies?
Kudos to KFC
I like how they do their best to save food by making these delicious pot pies and by donating their leftover food. I used to work at Popeyes and to this day they just throw everything out the same night 😔 has far as they are concerned they would rather it be thrown out into the trash then being given away for free
While KFC potpie and biscuits defy the flavor profile, they lack in the chicken department. Popeyes chicken knocks KFC chicken out of the ringer.
I never eat this I wil try next time let see how that go
informative
I've only had one once, I think banquet has more meat and vegetables.
I like them, they're a good value, and they're probably better for it, repurposing chicken that didn't sell.
Ha clicked on this to see if it was just our restaurant that used the leftover chicken. Btw don't think you commented on the pieces of chicken that go into the pot pies.
Australia never got to try them not like this...they look nice.
We had a limited edition pie come out ...it was not a hit but a rip off
Just chicken and brown gravey and very small for the price ...
Now there gravy usually is flavorful but in the pie it lacked alot of 5hat flavour bland ...it was not a hit in Australia.
Do you really think the TV advertising had anything to do with their success. I don't think I've ever watched a television commercial and been so Persuaded to buy a food product.
Just went to kfc and they said it would take 30-40 minutes to make 😒😒😒
😋😋😋😋
I had one today I never had a "chunk" of chicken in mine ....dissatisfied!
I like KFC. Can't afford to eat there. $21.99 for eight pieces, $29.99 for the meal.
The pot pies at Boston Market are better imo.
I like them but I just had one that had a bunch of gooey skin in it. Never seen that in there before and it was 7 bucks now.
Too bad the one by me doesn’t put any chicken in them. I don’t get how a chicken place doesn’t have chicken in their pot pie?
If these are made to order, you’d have to wait 3 hours for your lunch. Please
So where's the actual recipe?
You can try your best but all the ingredients are proprietary.
The pot pies used to be delicious but the recipe has changed and they are now inedible. I threw out my last one and won't buy another one. this was a few months ago after disliking the two before that.
The pot pie is why KFC absolutely smokes Popeye's and their shitty sides. Leftover chicken in potpies, leftover hamburger in Wendy's chili, ..no one cares.
No crust all around? Just a top layer? Forget it. That’s not a pot pie.
Succss
I heard a lot of boogers go into the pie crust and KFC special sauce is a giant yuck no no
I don’t like there pot pies, very bland
KFC is gross.
