New Zealand = trip of a lifetime!
Absolutely you will need to come and visit our spectacular country
Most of the town just seems so grey, featureless, dull and industrial. Nice broad streets but very empty. Hardly any traffic or people. It all gives a somewhat chilling effect. Perhaps I've got it wrong. People who know this place might view it differently. Would be interested to see what they say. I've never been to NZ, by the way.
Ahh Greymouth was an industrial town built around the railways and Port for shipping export coal from the local mines right upto the 1980s today the town is looking a bit more vibrant than its former self. We don't have a very big population on the South Island compared to other countries our city's would be like a small town compared to places like Europe and Northern America
Is that back packers bldg the old Brickhouse hotel? It looks like the hotel I stayed in back in the day when working on the Anchor shipping Company "MV Mamaku". It was winter time and the Grey Doctor nearly froze me solid.
Not sure where the backpackers was there was one down by the port the former Gilmore hotel and another hostel up Chapple Street not sure if there was one inthe CBD are of Greymouth. Yeep Greymouth will freeze you especially with the mist and Barber blowing down the Grey.
The Gilmore was locally known as the Brick house as I recall. We stayed in that one because it was closest to the coal loading wharf where the MV Mamaku tied up. Of course this is going back many years.
This song springs to mind by The Specials.
This town (town) is coming like a ghost town
All the clubs have been closed down
This place (town) is coming like a ghost town
Bands won't play no more
Too much fighting on the dance floor
Do you remember the good old days before the ghost town?
We danced and sang, and the music played in a de boomtown
This town (town) is coming like a ghost town
Why must the youth fight against themselves?
Government leaving the youth on the shelf
This place (town) is coming like a ghost town
No job to be found in this country
Can't go on no more
The people getting angry
This town is coming like a ghost town
This town is coming like a ghost town
This town is coming like a ghost town
This town is coming like a ghost town
The vid was filmed after the town was closed and most of the people were probably having their dinner at home
But yess the town of Greymouth is a little bit lifeless and a haunt but it's good for cycling as I won't get run over or run into people haha.
Thanks for the view and song I absolutely appreciate it.
🙏🙏
@@steveruss8369 The song would make a good sound track in the background.
@FLSTFB103 next video when I am in Greymouth I'll use that song haha
Whoa, I had not listened to this song since it was out! Thanks for bringing it back :)
@@steveruss8369 ''...after the town was closed''...!?!? How can they close a town, especially one that's the biggest on the west coast of South Island? I'm sure you have an answer, but your statement made the place seem even more weirdly desolate than it appeared in the vid.
I looked up the word 'boring' in the dictionary the other day, the explananation simply said 'Greymouth, NZ'. Fair enough.
Thanks for the view most appreciated!!!
@@steveruss8369 Do Methven next!
@@edwinovyeep I will do when I am down that side of the country
