- Welcome to the west coast of New Zealand, where the true beauty shines!
Today is a first impression of Hokitika, followed by a road trip to the beautiful Hokitika gorge, which has some of the bluest water in the country; after enjoying the beauty of the water, we ventured to Greymouth for the evening sunset, and we probably discovered the fish and chips in town.

Hey guys, when you buy fish & chips you should always poke your finger through the end of the paper so they don’t steam, and when you get to your eating spot they are much crisper ❤
I have two brothers who lives in this beautiful little town. I was lucky enough to be gifted a green stone that goes with me everywhere I go
Apart from our amazing country, what makes Aotearoa New Zealand unique is people. You have both done an amazing job showing who we are. Hopefully we recognise our problems, but try to be the best we can be.
Whitebait, Famous Delicatessen all over New Zealand, So if you see the whitebait sign.. Don't hesitate Get some, their made as fritters.. NZ recommends..
Little tip, a mouthful or two of soft drink/soda with the fish’n’chips will get rid of the grease/salt straight away. Really enjoying your videos.
Stumpers Bar and Cafe does some great meals, especially their Blue Cod and Chips.
Whitebait is a juvenile native fish that is caught in nets as it enters the rivers. It is a local delicacy and very popular. There is a tightly controlled season for catching them.
Worked in the old Building in Hokitika early seventies . Grew up in Greymouth . Great you finally made it to the Best Coast ...
Every small town in Aotearoa New Zealand is fool of characters. Bless them and have fun.
Can't beat good fish n chips
yes, yes, yes! Water colour is from the grey rocks I think.
Aotearoa New Zealand is a unique land, diverse scenery, people and experiences. Embrace, enjoy and participate, chill out, that's what it's about.😊
Chip shop is just around the corner from me In cobden the surf break is hugh on most day glade you injoyed your visit and love your accents
Its glacial water Glen, gonna be super chilly.. and damn thats a lot of chips for $5.50 and $5.00 for Fish ???? !!!!
almost worth the drive from Auckland.....
Awesome you guys, so many experience of New Zealand Kia ora
Beautiful river, amazing blue color.
Always tear the fish and chips packet open slightly to let the steam out otherwise the chips go soggy.
Just found you guys and you are amazing showcasing our beautiful country, thank you 😊 🙏..
Thanks for watching🤗🥰
Whitebait are the young of one of our native fish. They are about 2cm long and caught by net. A hand full are added whole to beaten egg then fried as a fritter. They are a delicacy here in NZ.
I had a dark winter miserable day in Hoki 45 yrs ago, good to see the town looking bright and its great to get a contemporary impression. I remember the greenstone shops.
I am also from sout african and yes
That was a huge amount of chips for $5.50!! My goodness!!😊
The turquoise colour of the water at the Hokitika Gorge is due to the minerals in the rock flour washed down from the glaciers up in the Southern Alps which is relatively close to the gorge. This is the same for the Blue Pools that you visited just before the Haast Pass on the Otago side. I visited both places several years ago. Absolutely spectacular.

Fun Fact - Hokitika had 87 pubs on the main street during the gold rush
Very Very nice, As with all your videos, they always 1st class stuff.
Great to see you again always something interesting to see.
Regards South Africa 🇿🇦.
More awesomeness !!
They were doing work on those bridges back in November when we were there..stunning place, one of our favorite places on the West Coast
Good watch guys.
That cinema is awesome
That "old railway bridge" you commented on is the old Arahura Bridge. It was one of three bridges that were shared by both cars and trains until fairly recently. This meant that before driving over the bridge you had to be sure that no trains were coming. The last one to be replaced was the Taramakau River Bridge which you would have crossed between Kumara Junction and Camerons as you headed north into Greymouth.
Nice job guys 👍
nice
Very nice video of amazing NZ
Yes, we love your NZ adventures - lovely country ...
The pub’s got a TAB
Excellent 😊
Kia Ora you 2 kiwis ❤
Once again thank you for taking me back to places I used to live. Hoki has come up in the world and I love it. That St Vinnies op shop is where I got hooked on thrifting. It's a great one.
Hokitika is a cool little place
Never under estimate the dangers of nature here ! ❤looks can be deceiving :)
Hokitika my mate since todlers lives there ! He a Diesel mechanic for the mines
Hey Glen try a whiebait fritter absolutely delicious... love your videos travel safely... God bless ❤
Ah grand!
My Irish ancestors settled on the West Coast in the 1800s, I think they were coal miners. My grandmother was born in Stillwater which is near Greymouth.
OMG I can't believe the 3 of you ate all those fish and chips they really must have been good.
It was actually only two of us marina got an Indian 😂
We're currently in nelson heading to greymouth and hokitika in a couple of days. Will definitely get some of the fish n chips and visit the gorge! Looking forward to Shanty Town too!
Im born there beautful town , not far off beauty to Queestown why realestate expensive . My parents own the mansion top of collingwood street if you walk up the Grampians
You guys must of went to the gorge on Sunday? Water is brown there now! Love your vids
No photo shopping here people!
I am so mad, my mouth is watering, I can't find decent fish & chips in Doha where I'm currently living! Mmm.... but another gem of a video Glen & Mado plus friend!
I was just in doha last week when I flew back to new Zealand, I love stopping in doha, didn't get to leave the airport tho
I suggest checking out some of the old mining towns on the west coast as well if you get a chance. Most of them are now doc sites. Reefton is also pretty interesting in terms of its history with mining
At that price, the fish is probably Elephant Fish. A kind of shark... In most South Island F&C shops the cheap standard piece of fish is Elephant Fish.
Fish was either Grey boy or Rig, which are both Shark
Fish was probably Hoki or lemon shark (Rig) . Some fish and chip shops will have fillets of tarakihi or even blue cod , but they cost a lot more . !. Amazed you got thru all of those chips!
Nah its elephant fish
Heinz! YUK!!
The water is so blue from the glacier sentiment in the water
I think Hokitika is a hidden gem, & I am thinking of moving there. Did you catch Marina napping in the back seat !!
Good luck on your driving test
Unknown fact ! SPEIGHTS stands for " Special Piss Enjoyed In Great Hotels o The South ! " Now you know !
Hey guys, if you make it up to the north island, can i suggest you guys check out, Levin and Foxton, Foxton is a Dutch town, both are small towns guys, i think you will enjoy Foxton. 👌
me and a former gf were meant to go to mt cook for a jet plane tripe over the mountain but she put in the wrong addresss and we went up the west coast by accident drove all the way up to the first town where there was a beach no people on it. we couldnt go to the mountain as it was on the other side of the mountain ranges lol so had to drive all the way back but you know what prob was my fav part of the trip the west coast is beautiful to drive on and scenic rivers etc. i wannna explore more of west coast.
Mm fish and chips. Be snapper.
Colour of the river comes from the grey rocks, called greywhake
It's Elephant Fish (shark)
The best sauce is hunger, as the saying goes.
Heinz bought out Watties years ago and it is now Heinz-Watties...
13.20... creatures of hokitika
The blue like color is the result of sediment being washed down from the surrounding mountains you see it every where in the meckenise country and south Otago .....
Are you coming up to Westport? If so, when?
My mother's families from Militon just on your right outside Westport yous should checkout the old mines and township well known for its ghosts my great-grandfather was killed in the mine in the thirties.
post the porirua one
Haha won’t be for a while!
Sorry to break it to you but Heinz owns Watties. Both sauces are made by the same company

Have you been or are you planning to go to raglan
How's your friend from Ukraine enjoying nz
The West Coast is amazing, isolated and a bit wild, but as someone who always attracts biting insects and gets driven crazy by the itching, I would never wear shorts there (sandflies target legs) and always wear a light long-sleeved shirt.
Or eat foods rich in vit b or take vit b tablets.
Now I want fish and chips…without the seagulls
All of nz is beautiful & amazing. Lovely
. Westcoast is rugged and beautiful.
Btw you can be arrested for taking pounamu- jade from the water.
You are allowed to take a small amount.
What happened to the Toyota wish?
we left it in Queenstown for 2 weeks as we only have 2 seats in the toyota wish but we already returned😅
Hello Mado and Glen your fish and chips would cost in Australia sixty dollars for two people twenty dollars haaa nothing was a big feed for two I miss my fish and chips in New Zealand Australia no good for that and pastry food nah still trying to find a a good pie so enjoy your food and coffee over there 😅

How did you forget your gold pan when heading up the west coast hahaha silly move
The Maori name for greenstone / jade is " Pounamu " Not eating a whitebait pattie , fritter on the West Coast , is like travelling to Dublin and not drinking a pint of Guiness ! Sacrilege !!
we can't believe we missed out on that, we absolutely had no idea how famous it is🙈
It's pronounced ho ka ti ka
Hokitikie 😂😂
Ho ki ti ka
Pronounced Hok a tika
Thats expensive fish and chips.. anything over $4 a scoop is over priced
Does your Ukrainian friend not like fish and chips?

My German cousins are mad as meat axes. Always a laugh. Different temperaments in every race.
Always take the advice on the notices about putting yourselves in danger, please. We spend a lot of tax payers money rescuing people who don’t.
