Can't speak for Arsenal fans but as a United fan I'm very happy with this season. Won a trophy, likely to get top 4, youth players coming through and we're playing better football. Last season was officially Uniteds worst so very happy with the turnaround and progress Erik has made.
I'm very happy but given the league now looks unlikely its a bit frustrating we decided to not really play in the europa
Wasn’t the question who’s had the better season well it’s obviously not Man U lost 7 -0 and haven’t really gotten any better if Liverpool and Chelsea bothered to show up be no where near top 4… Arsenal have unfortunately bottled it

On the Ballon d'Or debate, I'd give it to Haaland if he wins a treble, larger body of work opposed to a 7 game tournament.
Also, 6:09 "he'll have a chance to win it in the future"? You can say the opposite, "Messi already has 7 give it to Haaland" what kind of dumb argument is that?
Messi should not be winning the ballon dor again. Shouldn't win it for the world cup either as he wasn't even Argentinas best player ffs. Mbappe was miles clear of messi during the world cup.
@@JPayne95 He was deffo Argentina's best and most important player but still shouldn't win it over someone like Haaland if he gets the treble.
Also about the Mbappe point, maybe Mbappe was better (debatable I'd edge it to Messi over the whole tourney) but he didn't win the WC, winning is what matters
@@De3dSh0t I beg to differ on him being Argentinas best player, fernandes and mcallister where imperious, messi ghosted a couple games.
@Adam Qatar won the world cup. That's all I'm going to say on this.
@@JPayne95 the only game where he ghosted was the Saudi game (maybe the Poland one as well wasn't at his best), but he was monumental in the Mexico, Australia, Netherlands, Croatia and France games, legit carried their entire attack.
(Agree about Qatar being shady as well though, dons were getting pens every round)
The amount of times we hear "Messi won the world cup". Argentina won the world cup, it was as much fown to the rest of the team as Messi.
but let's be honest, that messi goal vs mexico, assist vs gvardiol, assist to molina vs netherlands, not many players can produce that, plus if u add the pressure he might be playing with carrying the hopes of an entire nation and to actually deliver it, u cant compare that to even 50 goals in a league dseason, league games just dont have that kind of pressure like WC games, for haaland comes a very close second for this reason and messi no. 1
You could say the same about haaland. Wonderful player but also playing for the just creative team in Europe
Messi was the best player in the World Cup. You could argue Mbappe but its Messi for me. But Haaland plays for Norway so didn't even get a chance to play in the World Cup. In general he's been the best player in the world this season. I could understand Messi winning it if City don't win much this season but if they do Haaland should win the Ballon D'or tbh. The main reason it would go to Messi would be like an acknowledgement of his career and finally winning that World Cup. Wouldn't be deserved though as much as I love him because Haaland has been better.
@@kratostherealgod8564 Argentina won the world cup on penalties not during the actual game so if France won instead people would say Mbappe desersves so it doesnt make sense to say Messi deserves the ballan dor because of the world cup. He is a way better playmaker than haaland obviously but he doesnt even have the most assists whilst playing in ligue 1 and if you compare what mbappe has done for psg and for france it isnt that much different. If messi played for norway he probably wouldnt have been in the world cup so its unfair to use that against Haaland and looking at the rest of the season he deffo deserves the ballan dor
But Messi's also playing at a stupidly stacked club, in a lower rates league than the Prem. The difference between them is that Norway isn't anywhere close to as good as Argentina, and that's not Haaland's fault.
I don’t like Rory’s takes but I just like watching his delectable medley of footballing IQ
What does that mean?
He should've just stuck to acting in Doctor Who

@@MeTaLMoNkEyLeYrOy He's lucky liverpool and chelsea were terrible this season otherwise utd wouldn't have made champions league football
it's impressive but he's also been backed with some class signings and inherited a squad with some top players. When you compare it to other managers like Emery and Howe who have been almost as successful so far with far less support, it makes ETH's efforts seem less amazing. United also don't really have any clear philosophy in possession other than hit the ball to Rashford on the counter.
Rory's opinion on the ballon d'or is an insanely rare W from him. Messi is brilliant, but hasn't had a better year than Haaland.
He has with the World Cup
@@patmyaz3240 put Haaland in that Argentina team and they win it easily without the need for game changing pens..

@@IA67676 of course it can, winning a World Cup far outstrips what Haaland has done this season.
Im calling it - The Balon d'Or already has Messi's name on it. The Balon d'Or ceremony isnt a legitimate award show - its a popularity contest and France Football are known to have a strong bias for Messi. Now combine that bias with Messi winning the WC and being player of the tournament, record breaking social media posts, playing in the french league and doing pretty well there etc. I agree Haaland deserves it this year but youre just naive if you think anobody is gonna get this years award over Messi.
Shouldn’t the best player in the best tournament in football be crowned the best player in the world?
@@Jorge-lh6px the tournament was like 8 games bro the balon dor is for the entire season. Messi scored 5 penalties, did really well with Argentina but that's all he's done this season. I'm not writing off his 15 goals 15 assists in the league but c'mon it's Ligue 1 an absolute joke. He got battered in the UCL and if Haaland wins the prem and UCL, let alone the treble with 55-60 goals he's undoubtedly had the best season itw.

Rory is right about the silverware it’s literally the purpose of football and there are only a certain amount of trophies available during a season.

The person who deserves it the most should win the ballon d'or. If Messi deserves it, he should win it, regardless of if he has won 7. Can you Imagine being given an award just because another person has won it many times? How will that make you feel proud of winning it? It is like saying that you should not award a penalty to a team that is leading 7-0 because they already have 7 goals, irregardless of the kind of tackle that was made. On the other hand, if Haaland wins the treble, being the EPL top scorer, UCL top scorer and winning the European golden shoe, he deserves it for sure.

In 2023 Haaland has been the stand alone best player in the world

Balon D'or took place before the 2022 World Cup. Its also for the prior season that ends in the Summer I think, includes summer international competitions I imagine.
I honestly don't think Messi cares having won the WC and not getting the 2023 ballon d'or. If he had a choice between winning the WC & not winning the ballon d'or. Messi would choose the Copa America, Finalissima & WC every time.
However, people are not wrong for placing the WC in consideration because it was played during the 22/23 season as a winter world cup.
As it was too hot to do so in summer, at the end of the 21/22 season. Which is why you can take Messi winning the WC in consideration for both the 21/22 & 22/23 seasons.
Seeing as he's won not just the one trophy he's wanted to win since he was a kid but all of the international trophies he can win. It's safe to say he won't mind the the trade-off of not adding an 8th ballon d'or.

Spurs aren’t underachieving it’s a myth. They have the 5th highest spend and finish around 4th or 5th every season so they are where they should be
As an Arsenal fan I think of it very simply, am I happier with this season or one of the few recently where we won FA Cup? This season by a mile. Are we forgetting United have been EMBARRASSED like 5 times this year? Historic loss to Liverpool will be talked about infinitely more than the energy drink cup.
It's all good though mate they won the mighty league Cup.

Arsenal focused absolutely everything on the league and are going to come up short it seems. Man utd spread themselves over 4 competitions and went deep in all of them. Man utd were in fantastic form just like arsenal until the fatigue of playing more than any team in Europe caught up. I would make a case if man utd had focused solely on one competition like arsenal they could have had similar seasons. It's certainly a question!
Exactly! Don't understand how all these "experts" / "commenters" are missing these points.
But they didn’t so I don’t get your point?
Erik ten Hag managed Manchester United like a real manager that is use to winning many trophies, unfortunately because of the damage glazers, we couldn't buy enough players or the right ones in January, I really believe if he got everything he wanted, he could have won the league, but will never know now
Modric won the Ballon D'or due to his World cup performance.
I feel as though Messi would be a shoe-in based on him winning and being a strong player with regards to winning the cup.
I’m an arsenal fan and I have to say united have had the better season if they get top 4.
Top 4, league cup and a FA Cup final - that’s a great season
Top4
vs
Top4, League Cup, Fa Cup Final (at least), Europa League Semi-Final
Scum haven't reached the Europa League semi finals. If you're going to put up an argument get facts right first ffs

If Man City do win the triple, what about Kevin de Bruyne for the ballon d’or?

As a United fan I’d say Arsenal. Even if they come second it was a good battle till the end. Arsenal have got champions league too. Also Arteta is a young manager he’s got lots of time to improve Arsenals future.
If they keep him
Is it just me or this is the most stupid question lol?
ofc is Arsenal...
"Manager of that calibre" he's 35 mate what calibre
Man Utd and Arsenal are in good positions this year and will become better next year.
Arteta clear.
you cannot lose 7-0 and having a better season
You can also not lead a table from start of the season and lose it at the very end, and draw to bottom place Southampton, coming down from 2 -0. Lose to your title challengers home and away. And have a better season.
@@abrahamemeka2127 I am not arsenal fan by the way.
but 7-0 plus the embarassement at sevilla is too much for me.
however there is progress regarding the last season
I mean, Arsenal have had a better season on the pitch in terms of football no doubt, but if they end up not winning the title, what makes them any different from all the other number 2's in history? Maybe it's a better season for them as a fanbase, but from a neutral pov, United will have had a better season if they end up with the caraboa cup and top 4.
The fact that the Avengers are #1, and Saka, Saliba, Martinelli, Ramsdale and Odegaard took serious leaps in terms of development
Tbf we still regard Liverpool 95 points as one of the best teams in prem history, they came second. And its a mickey mouse cup, no one remembers it
Rory is brilliant!
World cup was in 2022 right?
United has had a better season because we hadn’t won any trophy for 6 years. But next season I’d rather have what Arsenal has had this season. No trophy but they have been unbelievable.

Is this really a question? Man United with all the financial backing bringing in a big manager and top class players. How can anyone say man United have had a better season? because they won a caraboa cup?😂
Top 4 and Europa league was the aim, Arsenal fell short of their own aim
1. United have made it to two finals
2. Acting as if arsenal have spent nothing in the past few years
Arteta has spent nearly £500m.
@@yourdailyjoe3155True, it's easy to forget Spurs were better in the Cups than Arsenal this season.
I think Arsenal have had the better season. United spent more in the summer transfer window than they ever have before and only moved 2 league places. They might have won a carabao cup, but for the money that’s been spent, I don’t think 1 lesser trophy means United have had a better season.
The top 3 for Ballon Dor regardless will include these 3 players:
Messi
Haaland
Vini Jr
There is a chance of De Bruyne making it instead of Vini

@@ultraslanmc easily? No chance that’s just British bias.

I mean odegaard was compared to KDB. And at that time, KDB had 14 assists. I know odegaard is good but it’s KDB so it shows he’s had a dip in form.
Messi has 1 good month, Mbappe arguably was better in that World Cup. Haaland for Ballond’or easily.
Finally someone with sense. Everyone just says messi should win the ballon dor because its messi. Realistically I can think of a decent amount of people with better seasons than messi. The only thing this season he has to his name is winning the world cup in which I don't even think he was the best player in the world cup I think mbappe was better. He dropped out of the champions league early on and has had decent numbers in a ligue un farmers league in which if he doesn't hit 40 g/a it would be embarrassing. What haaland has done this season and what mbappe has done is miles clear of what messi has done yet everyone will just say messi was the best just because its messi
I feel like saying he had one good month is harsh considering he's got the most G/A in Ligue 1. I agree that it should be Haaland but I'm fine with either.
@@mca1881 I’m not fine with either. Messi winning it is just a disgrace and a Robbery if Haaland wins the treble. Just proves ballon d’or is a popularity contest.
@@jackrodwell4967 messi winning it in 2021 for me proved it’s a popularity contest imo.
Because IK messi had a good season also won copa america. But put di Maria in that position instead. So di Maria came third in la liga and won copa america. I don’t think he beats lewangoalski to the ballon d’or. I genuinely think messi wins a lot of ballon d’ors cause his name is messi.
Im sure man united fans would have loved to be in a title race
I'm sure Arsenal fans would love to win any tropies this season

We got everything Arsenal got plus more. Champions league football ✅ EFL ✅ FA cup potentially
Depends on the end of the season.
If United finish top 4 with 1 or even 2 trophies and Arsenal finishes 2nd in epl; United have it better.
If United does not finish in top 4 or of Arsenal wins the EPL, they have it better.

Finishing 17th with the League Cup is better than being so far ahead of the table for so long only to bottle it and win nothing. Finishing 4th with the League Cup is even better, much better. Finishing 3rd with the League Cup is even better again. No matter what way you try spin it, it always comes down to 2 solid facts that can’t be denied - 1. Arsenal BOTTLED it. 2. United had a better season.
They didn’t tho. 7-0 to Liverpool. 3-0 to Sevilla. 4-0 to Brentford. 6-3 to City. These are results that will absolutely be remembered, and no one will remember the mickey mouse cup. With 300 million spent and an amazing foundation, 4th with a mickey mouse cup is okay at best.
And Arsenal didn’t bottle it, they were never going to win the title. Beating City requires perfection, and Arsenal don’t have that yet. Still an enormous improvement and great season
@@dustinmartin6524 the footballing world has already ratioed you. Everyone knows you BOTTLED it, even you, just you don’t want to accept it. If spurs actually went and got nagelsmann and rangnick that would actually be quality for them. They would really sort them out

Messi is clear, he is gonna win his 8th balloon dor. Ask Haland he will exchange his treble if he wins it for a word cup in a heart beat. Its Messi's no debate.
I honestly think that Negalsmann can go to Real, Atletico and a perfect fit Inter Milan if he waits till the end of the season, Spurs I don't know why he will go there unless they appoint ragnick beforehand, I think spurs should forget about top 4 contendership and start fresh unless they wanna end up in the situation at Everton, for spurs I think, Tomas Frank, Michael carrick or a leftfield one Simeone are better shouts than Julian N.
If city win the treble, surely kdb is in the ballon d'or debate as well?
Yeah he should be but we all know the bias for messi is disgusting and his name is virtually printed on it.
Going from where arsenal were to title challenging blows united out of the water. Ten Hag has been spanked a few times ridiculous scorelines, made silly subs and you could argue got further in europe etc under Ole
Imagine not wanting to take Nagelsman who managed one of the most successful clubs in Europe and never lost a game in the champions league with them after having done what he did at RB Leipzig and prior to that
Disrespectful to Arsenal. We were 5th last season and everyone said we were placing out of the top 4. Yet we were in a title charge the entire season, with the youngest squad in the league.
Where was united last season, 6th?
Expectations change throughout a season, yes Arsenal did transcend the expectations people had for them before the season, but as you said you had the lead in the league for the majority of the season, that changes expectations and people started to think Arsenal could actually win the league and well you have bottled that expectation of Arsenal winning the league.
