I can't wait to get my custom wheelchair, so I can start doing stuff like this. Right now, even though I can stand/walk, it's really painful and exhausting (because I have to concentrate on HOW it's done, my brain gets very tired). With a wheelchair that's made for me and ultralight, I'm looking forward to doing marches, shopping, walking my dog, EVERYTHING! I'll have to really train to be ready for something like this World Run, though. Not sure my joints will allow that. But living a life, not just existing and waiting sounds like heaven to me.

Sara, check out triumph-foundation.org. They are all about helping disabled children, adults and veterans to keep moving forward. Their website is full of info. and resources to help us adapt to life in a chair and adaptive sports. They also give grants to help people purchase adaptive equipment. For sports, check out challengedathletes.org. I wish you well.

I'm an able bodied person. And I love watching your videos. It's nice to learn that even when life is tough it's well worth it to keep pushing it always gets better. Thank you for the not only the Insights of your life and the community, but the life lessons that you teach. Keep making these great videos. Your not only helping people learn be independent with their disabilities but your also inspiring to have a better outlook on life than you so much.

I hope you realize how many people you are helping with these videos! I have really bad osteoarthritis and have to use a wheelchair for long distances. I am trying to not let that hold me back, but sometimes I just don’t want to have to go through the struggles. Thank you for showing us how to do stuff!

My goal is to reach as many people as possible. My relationship with my wheelchair and mobility had been in some dark places. Now that I am in the light I want to stay here and help everyone I can get out of their darkness 😊

At one point in my life it did. I used my wheelchair as an excuse to not do anything. I was miserable. Now I use it every chance I get because I know what it feels like to let it stop me. I won’t ever let that happen again.

I’m not sure why your videos came up on my feed but I am so glad that they did. You are such an inspiration. I am not disabled but, when I was 14 years old I had a full reconstruction of my hip and spent the next 2 and half years gaining the strength back and basically had to learn to walk again. Like you say in your videos, having an injury doesn’t mean you have to change who you are but you just have to come up with a new way to do the things the you did before. Thanks for being who you are and being such an inspiration.

Also my neighbor is a paraplegic. He drives a car and does things as regular as possible. I didn’t know that before I met him and it was really eye opening.

Thank you so much for these tips. That triple A really hits home. I'm a part-time wheelchair user (health under investigation), and I don't know where my mobility is going at the moment. I used to be so active figure skating and acroyoga and running, now independence utterly wrecked and let's not talk about the mental state. Your videos really give me the confidence and have really changed the way I approach my mobility - THANK YOU. Please keep up the good work, it means so much.

  • @americasfittesttrucker7007

Great content man. I like the three A's.
Accept the injury would be my biggest advice to sci peeps.
Get active would be my second piece of advice.

I was in a wheelchair for about 7 months and that’s honestly not even that long because after that I was able to start using a walker and regain strength in my legs but I remember just feeling like I was so worthless and that I couldn’t do anything because I couldn’t use my legs or even speak to people normally because I was at the same level as the. But it’s so cool to see you being able to travel and educate people on people with chairs

I mostly walk these past 2 years (after 5 mostly seated) but managed to break both feet in last few weeks thanks to osteoporosis so I am back in my TiLite for a bit. Funny how quickly it all comes back...also Woody foundation is great! I don’t know him personally but I think what he’s doing is awesome. And I am kind of shocked that you guys are all in regular chairs for the race, not special race chairs! Yeah your shoulders must be killing you!

Advice...the work to be done is yours and yours alone. Move forward one movement at a time and before you know it you are making new goals. The work is hard and will possibly be the hardest thing you can remember doing. The pay off at the end though....its like nothing you have ever felt before. The cool thing is you get to feel that feeling every goal you achieve.

As a new wheelchair user, injury aside, my hands and arms (But more so my hands) HURT so flippin' bad! I'm using gloves and trying not to overdo it, but is there anything I can do to lessen the additional ow brought on by using my arms as my legs now, so to speak. I'm pushing correctly according to even your videos, so I guess it's just it being new?
On the subject of getting your walk back, the damage to my spine is due to genetics and is degenerative, so I'm much more focused on getting my LIFE back, and since I've been in the wheelchair, life has gotten better, even in this short of a time. Or at least, my attitude about it has gotten better, as has the constant pain. So I'm with the guy who said to get your LIFE back instead of only focusing on walking again, that meant a lot to me personally, so thank you! :)

I can move myself in my wheel chair a few feet them I am exhausted. Fshd makes your muscles go to mush. I can barely lift a soup mug, I find it very heavy. Is there anything affordable to help me get around. Live in Canada and on a fixed income.
