  • Put this short film together a while back compiling various clips available from the 1958 VFL Grand Final. While we will never have a full copy of the match available, this is the closest you will get to a comprehensive overview of the match. Features pretty much the entire last quarter as well as a couple of interviews ripped from a Collingwood history tape.

What a memory! I was there (11 yrs old) with my Mum and Dad and my sister. As always-we got there about 10..00am- so we could watch the 3rds- the 2nds -before the big game. It poured with rain in the morning. I sat on the end- holding the tarp we had over our heads- and the rain dripped down my arm and I was in tears and just wanted to go home. Think it stopped before the big game. Collingwood meant everything to my Mum and Dad- (both born and bred) and they were so hopeful that Collingwood would win and save that precious 4 finals in a row record. It meant so so much to Collingwood suppporters that Melbourne did not take that crown.

Thank you so much to the uploader for this video. The footage is special. My Dad is #14 for Collingwood, Bill Serong (VC). Dad passed away a few weeks ago so watching this is a great way to keep his memory and talent alive. I was born long after he finished his playing days so I never got to see him play footy, watching this is brilliant. Thanks again

@@JimmyRaptis As a Collingwood supporter I'd like to forget about 1970. Yes Collingwood won the minor (who cares) premiership by two games and were ahead by 44pts at half time. (It still hurts)! But seriously at the start of the game Collingwood may have been favorites but not as heavily favoured as Melbourne in 1958. Melbourne was in great form and had a full list to choose from. Collingwood's captain was out injured and our form wasn't great. Even Lou Richards tipped Melbourne! When isolation is over lets have a pot and parma at a pub and talk football. Give us both something to look forward to.

But the Collingwood Football Club has done something wonderful.... Collingwood is arguably the BIGGEST and WEALTHIEST club in Australia... how have they maintained a strong support base??? Obviously it's a number of different factors... But some of them are STRONG Traditions, working class roots, rich history, comradery, good marketing, etc.... @@pavementpounder7502 The Eagles are a big club.. I'm big fan of them .. Both the Tigers and the Eagles surpassed 100,000 members last year, which is an outstanding achievement...👍 But the Eagles and Dockers are both controlled by the Western Australian Football Commission and are only partially member owned... so at this moment you kinda have to consider them as one, in terms of ownership.... Where as the Collingwood Football Club is 100% member owned... My team the Brisbane Lion's only finally got around to a member owned club reletively recently...(after a long rocky road).... The AFL has got a long term goal of EVERY club being 100% member owned.....👍👍👍
