Morticia (Anjelica Huston) tells her unique spin on "Hansel and Gretel" to a group of children.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Inspired more by the 1960s TV series than by the original Charles Addams New Yorker cartoons, The Addams Family proved to be one of the more successful of the TV shows-turned-movies of the 1990s. The film opens on a recreation of the magazine cartoon wherein the ghoulish Addamses prepare to pour hot oil upon a group of merry Christmas carolers. After a series of vignettes which establish the characters of Gomez (Raul Julia), Morticia (Anjelica Huston), Wednesday (Christina Ricci), Pugsley (Jimmy Workman) and family servants Lurch (Carel Struycken) and Thing (Christopher Hart), the plot proper gets under way. A stranger, played by Christopher Lloyd, shows up on the Addams doorstep, claiming to be long-lost Uncle Fester. It appears, however, that Lloyd is a ringer, in cahoots with attorney Tully Alford (Dan Hedaya) to strip the Addamses of their fortune. In their usual against-the-grain fashion, the Addams Family seems to delight in the possibility that they're being hoodwinked-indeed, not even kidnapping or death threats dampen the Addams clan's joy of living (or should we say dying?). The Addams Family served as the directorial debut of cinematographer Barry Sonnenfeld.

I love that they kept the girl-scout, who returned as the loathsome snob Amanda Buckman in the sequel.
More than likely the same character, not just the same actress. Makes you wonder why she didn't recognize Wednesday at camp. Pugsley is rather forgettable, but Wednesday sticks out like a giant pimple.

Wendsay comes home crying and her parents try and find out what happened only to learn that she was told a story about how a Knight killed a dragon. They were all shocked and appalled and got a hold of the teacher about telling a story about kill a beautiful creature.

“Not anymore” basically meant that when they were rich he was precisely that: a man that doesn’t work, wastes time and money the whole day, and does nothing around the house: now that he is no longer rich, suddenly he cannot be the same loafer he used to be, for he now clearly has no cash, and being a POOR loafer is obviously not what Morticia expected him to be...
@@uncleduck4720 he's not dead. Unlike The Munsters, the Addams family is human, mostly, though there is a history of witchcraft on both sides. I think it's safe to say that those things which are not human, like Itt, Thing, and Fester's ability to be blown up and electrocuted without dying can be attributed to resiliency due to their lifestyle, and witchcraft.

yes your right he does smile a little, maybe he saw something off screen and couldn't hold it together, maybe it was the thorough list of details how teachers really exaggerate things at story time, or maybe he is a future psychopath, or just has a mean streak, like many angry little and big boys do.
I guess I am not quite right as I thought it was kind of funny they sit there dumbfounded having to think about it then just like clockwork they start crying, or dumping water on a fire it goes out with a nice hisss, or or sawing a limb on a tree it cracks a little and then more then your hard work is rewarded with that creaking and then snap and falls to the ground I guess I like it when things finally work, or irronicly work just like clockwork :} but its kind of mean to take happyness at someones pain, the truely just gentleman does not do or enguage in that.

I think the funniest thing about the scene with the kids is less how Morticia describes the witch's death in agonizing detail, and more how she got the kids to actually sympathize for the villain of the story.

Interesting fact. To get the kids to cry, Barry Sonnenfeld told the kids they were done filming but had to sit where they were because they would be getting measles vaccinations.

Her story telling has a real deep meaning which is an Allegory for the Adams Family. In the movie we enjoy and sympathize everything from the Family's point of view so what of the Witch? She felt pain too so we sympathize with her as well.

Saying that the Witch felt pain in the end and asking the kids how that feels was surprisingly deep.. Morticia basically pointed out that the Witch can feel therefore making those kids cry at the thought of being burnt to death in an oven.... It was a bit humourous but was deep at the same time

The cast of this movies is phenomenal. Each character came perfectly alive. Of course the best ones are Morticia and Wednesday on my opinion :P But Fester, Gomez, all of them were so hypnotic. You cannot take your eyes off the Addams.

Got the chance to say that joke to a boyscout. He ran in terror. Made my day! I also like to scare Jehova's. I let them in my house and let them see my occult stuff. My wife plays along and does random creepy stuff like asking me where the bone marrow is or telling me I should sharpen the knives or my favourite: how many bibles does it take to make a good fire to cook on. I then say, I think about 7. You should see the look on their faces, they run for the hills. And little detail, My wife is always clothed like Morticia, we fence, and keep dead roses and we pull pranks on each other. My neighbourhood think we are creepy. I don't care at all.

They obviously just told them to fake it. Honestly, how are so many people convinced that was real? You can see all the kids in the corner of the shots not crying at all, and the kids who are “crying” are so obviously faking it - how could anyone fall for that??!
