      I really feel like what made the original Addams such goals is that they were confident; nothing other people did shook them or made them insecure or afraid. Heck, if people wanted to raid them I don't think they would have minded too much, considering they admired their ancestors for being burned at stake, or Morticia being kidnapped or Uncle Fester being duped into marriage etc. They could disagree with other people's opinions or tastes but they were just so UNTOUCHABLE literally you couldn't get through to them.

    • @AngelEmfrbl
      @AngelEmfrbl Před 3 lety +235

      @@shogunspear9739 I don't think the problem is similar to the movies, the issue is that Wednesday would never do this because it would never occur to her to do this. In most media, the Addams aren't even aware that their not "normal". So Wednesday wouldn't even think about changing her look, as she wouldn't see there is a issue with how she looks to begin with.
      To them, their normal.

    Wednesday would have decided suddenly she wanted to be a fairy in pastels and glitter and the real Morticia would have openly happily welcomed it and said “oh darling.” She’s the type of parent that even if it isn’t her choice, she’d still support her kids.

    • @pinkypey10
      @pinkypey10 Před 3 lety +1462

      In the Addams Family Broadway edition, Wednesday suddenly decides to wear yellow to welcome her fiancé’s parents. Mortica doesn’t like it because it was a shocker to her when she was greeting their guests. She never says “don’t wear it” she just says “I won’t have that color in my house.” And “we don’t wear bright colors because it makes you blend in with everyone else.” I feel like because Wednesday was always really young, she just agreed with her parent’s beliefs. But now that she is older, we have to see some classic mother daughter teenage clash over stupid things, but these reasons are bizarre reasons. The original creator of Addams family wanted the character’s to be the opposite of a normal family. So think of a religious families kid suddenly wearing goth clothes, they would flip. Now flip that around and you get a crazy family with a kid wearing “normy” clothes. So this was spot on for Mortica, just executed poorly and handled horribly.

    • @daylightbright7675
      @daylightbright7675 Před 2 lety +436

      They're supposed to be like everyone else, just flipped around lmao. They were meant to be the complete opposite of what's considered "normal." So if most people like bright colours and cute things, they don't. Most people don't like hurting other people, hating others or death, so they do. But despite this they've NEVER been accepting of their children trying out "normal" styles or hobbies, mainly because then they'd be just like everyone else. It's supposed to be funny because why would a parent encourage their children to be so straight up weird in the eyes of most people? The whole point of their story as a whole is self acceptance and not being afraid to be different. Which is highlighted by Wednesday dressing how she likes despite what her family thinks.

    In the movie when Pubert turned into a blond blue eyed normal baby, they were upset but adjusted and still put in the effort to be loving parents.

    This reboot is definitely different than the original characters but I think a lot of people are overlooking what the film is dealing with. So I apologise for the following part but I want people to see the ingenuity in this film as I believe this reboot stands next to the original adaptations of the Addams Family in its own unique variance.
    The Addams parents are hunted by a society that treats them differently and they essentially become secluded in New Jersey in their new home to the point that a literal fog causes the Addams Family to miss Assimilation’s existence. In this seclusion they find safety and love each other’s company so they raise their children to be like themselves because they believe it to be the safest course of action for them. But this causes their children to stray away from them: Pugsley fails the sabre muzurka and Wednesday wants to be like “everyone else”, wearing pink clothes and pins. The interesting thing as well is that this is also reflected on the antagonist’s (Margaux) family life as she tries to make everyone else like her including her own daughter for the money from the show. This is so she can have an easier life by looking after her daughter and her “Neighbourhood Peeps” but does this in a very corrupt manner. At the film’s climax when Margaux brings war to the Addams Family, both the parents on both sides realise their mistakes of their parenting. The Addams let their children be themselves after seeing their self-imprinting on to them has failed. This is because they can protect themselves as well as others like Wednesday with the tree and detective skills, as well as Pugsley’s demolition muzurka as he protects his family from the collapsing house. On the other side, Margaux makes the town like herself but when she is revealed and that her actions have caused more harm than good she falls apart. Then Uncle Fester offers to help despite their recent little war and both families come together to find sanctuary through unity and individualism in the town of Assimilation. So by the end of the film, both families love each other and accept themselves for who they are.
    Also, the reason why I know Margaux is doing this for safety in sanctuary is because when her daughter points out the flowers are plastic Margaux replies “plastic lives forever dear”. This is implying that if she makes everything as fake and dull as plastic is, it’ll never have to go as nature does hence Assimilation’s primary goal: assimilate everyone to save everyone because Margaux “helps people”. Her name even means “pearl” in french and that has symbolism of perfection and incorruptibility despite the process a pearl takes to have its beauty.
    This film is definitely different than the original but that doesn’t mean the film is bad. In fact, I think the film is a lot more clever than people give it credit for as it is it’s own film in the line of Addams Family features. The film has good jokes for both kids and adults but it significantly has a wholesome truth at its heart. That truth is to love yourself as much as you love your family while staying true to yourself against adversary. And this truth has always been at the heart of any and all Addams Family films.

      I completely agree! I hate to offend anyone, but this movie is the first one I've seen of the Addams Family, and I really liked it. I keep seeing people putting this down, and while I can sort of understand why it's hated so much, I don't think this is a bad movie at all. Maybe they're a bit out of character, which is something I wouldn't know as I never looked at Addams Family medias before, but the message of the movie was pretty good. It was satisfying to me. The movie was charming in its own way.
      'Course, this is just my opinion. I just feel kind of alone, and bad for liking the movie while everyone else seems to hate it lol
      Oh well.

      Does anyone remember the 1991-93 Animated Series? What Margaux does is similar to what Norman and Normina Normanmeyer did in the series, try to make Happydale Heights as "happy" as it can get, despite their motives being so "plastic" and most of Happydale Heights thought the Normanmeyers (Sans Norman Jr./NJ) were boring...

      @@shijannefortissimo8856 Speaking as a lifelong fan of the Addams Family, I loved this movie. The only bad Addams Family material I've ever had the misfortune to watch was that godawful direct-to-VHS film that came out in 1998.

    The original Addams family set was actually filled with bright colours, in particular pink.
    It only appeared black because back then they could only record in black and white.

      In my theory there is one scene in the movie where she raised her skirt a bit to reveal a bunch of spiders to create a bridge to get across the giant hole in their house. So probably it's the spiders carrying her towards wednesday,i'm not 100% percent sure

    Most people in these comments clearly didn't watch the movie. Morticia thought her daughter was doing this to impress others, not doing it for herself, if she had thought it's what Wednesday wanted she'd fully support it. This movie was actually super good

    Did everyone forget The Addams Musical, where the Entire thing was literally Wensday all grown up with a normal guy, who just so happen to have a weird kink. And during the whole musical Gomez and Morticia wondered where the fuck they went right? Like there is a whole song ... About them wondering if their Bad Parenting actually ended up as Good Parenting.
    Meanwhile both of them are unaware, THIS NORMAL LOOKING GUY, is on their torture Rack.
    The couple even asks them for a Normal Dinner party and it turns out even the mother in law is secretly crazy.
    Because that scene above was that WHOLE MUSICAL.
