Jokic’s only weakness from winning is voter fatigue
No it’s the other players in the league who’ll have better season.
Not his “weakness” being voter fatigue
He was supposed to be MVP last year
@benjaminweiss1817hahaha "very clearly"
@benjaminweiss1817. He was very clearly MVP 3 years in a roll ll. Casuals should not comment sports.
@benjaminweiss1817
Holy Casual. You don't know ball at all. Everything you said being wrong is insane.
And he lost due to voter fatigue.
I do think Jokic will have an anti-voter-fatigue boost this time. A lot of voters feeling bad for buying into the narrative against him last year.
Let's hope you're right. They really do need to make amends.
@@benjaminweiss1817 Embiid couldn't even lead his team to be the top in their conference with another MVP lol
No
We're tired of the MVP becoming the big man award
@@benjaminweiss1817 they're gonna be old af by then
and it's likely gonna be luka vs shai in for the next 4 after 2024-2025
@benjaminweiss1817 lol nah I'd still take Jokic over Embiid even if you play the "if healthy" card
SGA: 31/5/5 on a team that went 40-42: The media are falling over themselves to give him MVP votes and 1st Team All NBA, such a heroic effort.
Luka: 32/8/8 on a team that went 38-44: Media: "Wow, Luka really fell off, I don't know if he's a winning player. How can I vote for him for MVP on a team that didn't make the play-in?"
Yea, people are going to say it's relative to expectations. That's my point- I don't think it should be. If the Thunder were better and the Mavs were worse than people expected, that doesn't mean SGA is better than Luka, it means people had some wrong prior assumptions about those teams. I think the Thunder were more talented overall last year and I'm not sure that's even debatable.
The Thunder battled a ton of injuries though including that of all the main bigmen. Along with the fact that one of them was the 2nd pick in the draft meaning the team wasnt very good the year prior. and Shai only playing 65 or so games
Shai’s efficiency was just better as well. Also Luka’s team got worse while Shai’s team got better. That’s just potential reasons. I am not saying he’s better necessarily
@@brendancroft5290 last season luka was the third most efficient player, thats pretty crazy cause he almost played the most mins per game as well because his team is so bad
Should Luka have received more MVP votes last year in your opinion?
@@fortynights1513 the truth is it doesn't matter who gets 5th place. But I think it's silly that Shai was deemed an MVP candidate while Luka was not. My point is they were in a very similar position - The difference was people's prior expectations
Jokic coming off a perfect playoff run, paired with his ability to have 55 p+b+a every game. He already has a massive lead in the race. Its going to take Giannis being 33ppg and DPOY to take the MVP off Jokic, baring injury of course
bro what
@@etanabu2232 Nah I see what he's saying. Jokic doesn't have the "first round exit" "Can't get it done when it matters" narratives holding him back anymore. Even if his season is identical to last year he'd win it. Even though it shouldn't, playoff performance has an impact. Guys like Giannis and Embiid who crumbled in last year's 'offs are going to have to prove themselves all over again to get MVP.
@@benjaminweiss1817you really a hater he averaged a triple double for the entire playoffs but Murray carried him lmfao
@@benjaminweiss1817Jokic was 30/13/10 on 64% TS, Murray was 26/7/6 on 58% TS...
How exactly Jokic got carried by Murray, dummy?
@@benjaminweiss1817one of 5 or 6??? Which 5 or 6? Lebron was a somewhat injured but he was still playing good and they swept them anyway so it’s not like it was close. Are we calling Chris Paul a star? He played in 3 of the 4 games they lost anyway. Kawhi and PG would both have to be healthy but even then we’ve seen very little from them and the Clippers defence was ass this year. Giannis? You’re claiming that if Giannis misses 3 less games they go from being eliminated in 5 to winning 4 more series? Talk about a reach. Jimmy was a little injured but the series wasn’t even close to being close. Embiid? You really trust the 6ers to get it done? He was playing anyway so it wasn’t like the injury made that much of a difference to him.
Giannis will come back with a vengeance, he’s my preseason guess for MVP.
He will miss a lot of ft, mids, will foul on 3s, will not shoot 3s, will travel and carry the ball, will tov. No mvp
Media won’t allow that after loosing 4-1 first round to an 8 seed, even if he was injured.
He’s the best regular season player in the league, but after a first round exit and how it happened, trust me, unless giannis comes into the season with all these brand new technical skills we haven’t seen, the bucks winning more games without Giannis than with him in the postseason will make the rounds, with no context to properly explain the situation.
Giannis would have to have a historic season for him to get considered, as unfair as it might be.
Idk guys I kinda hope I’m wrong since I like the idea of a new person winning MVP but I just believe that Giannis is the kind of guy who will use all this trash talk and disbelief to fuel his drive and he will have a monster year. We’ll see though
I hope he does since it would be really good motivation for him to improve his fts and his shooting in general. Maybe even add some post moves.
Perkins and his race bomb is why Jokic didn’t win MVP. Before that he was unanimous after that he slowly dwindled.
Denverite and Nuggets fan here-this is just a cold and tired take. Nuggets had a serious losing stretch at the end of the season that included losing to the Rockets and Spurs and almost losing the first seed which is why a lot of people had him on their ballot in the first place. Embiid also outright beat Jokic head to head in a game that never seemed close, and both had great seasons. Jokics defense was also a big problem and question for many heading into the playoffs. His playoff defense took a huge jump but in the regular season it looked like he could maybe be attacked. All that paired with the fact that he was the 2 time reigning MVP is what lost him that, not Kendrick Perkins.
He was never unanimous and Perkins got clowned for his “””race bomb,””” I don’t understand people like you who think Kendrick fucking Perkins influenced the debate. You’re giving that guy way too much credit.
@rileymerino6340 thank you everyone always says Perkins and embiid crying won him an mvp but no its just the unlucky losing streak of jokic last year and the sixers getting hot
That's just not true and is a pathetic excuse for why Jokic didn't win it. Jokic got snubbed for the same reason Giannis got snubbed 3 years ago. Because he hadn't performed in the playoffs and had already won the award. The rave may have played a small role, but not nearly enough to change the final result. If you honestly believe that you're a gullible idiot.
@@rileymerino6340 Yeah because the 6ers going 4-6 down the stretch was really impressive Lol your sorry excuse is actually the tired take. Embiid also caught the Jokic flu Lol.
"Jokic got embarrassed by the Warriors in the first round"
Jok was triple teamed the entire series and still averaged 31pts and 13rbs, unfortunately he had no help from his depleted team and had to do everything on both sides of the court by himself, not to mention most of GSW key players had gotten back healthy just in time for the playoffs and were fairly rested. We need to stop the false narrative that Jokic didn't play at an MVP level once the postseason came, even Warriors fans were saying he was the best player on either team during that series.
Either team is true only because Steph didn't play for the whole series.
As a warriors fans jokic wasn't the best player on both sides, he was absurdly good but he wanst better than Steph that year
@@Nicknursenut31 and 13 on great efficiency with no help and all the defensive attention isn’t close to being the best? Alright 😂
@@ahmadazem4167 Steph played in all 5 games.
Jokic's 31pt 13.2rb 5.8ast > Curry's 28pt 3.4rb 5.4ast.
Plus Steph had plenty of help with Poole Klay and Wiggins offensively plus Draymond, GP2, Looney and even Iggy taking care of things on the defensive side. Meanwhile Nikola had to everything on both sides of the ball.
@@Nicknursenut Jokic had the best playoff career stats of any active player besides Giannis, and that's before this year's monster run so he might even be first now. It's not like ChokEbidd whose numbers drop off in the postseason, Jokic has actually elevated his number every single time he's gone to the playoffs.
No one is revising history, the problem is that you people never actually watch things as they're happening and then don't even bother to at least look at the history of what they missed.
@@Nicknursenutsure, Embiid fan. It's okay to cope.
"SGA is Top 5" Agenda in full effect I support it.
They're not going to give a second straight MVP to a guy who hasn't been past the second round his whole career. I can see Giannis or Jokic being strong candidates again since they're both now Finals MVPs in addition to two time MVPs. They may have less trepidation about giving a 3rd to either player at this point if their level of play stays the same that it's been. If Dallas has a good season and Luka has similar numbers to last year, he'd also have a good chance I think.
Not that Embiid should have won MVP over Jokic (I’d say Jokic is clearly the better player and played a better season by a bit), but why should a lack of playoff success historically matter when deciding who gets the MVP in a regular season?
It shouldn't in theory, but people associate MVP with being the best player in the league. Because of this, they feel like by awarding an MVP to a playoff underpreformer, they are saying that a guy who can't get it done when it matters is the best player in the league, which feels absurd.
This is crazy. Its almost like an unwritten rule to include post-regular season accomplishments to decide MVP for the *next season.*
So your criteria for being an MVP for the first time might not be the same for when you go for a repeat.
@@fortynights1513because the playoffs have ALWAYS mattered, they vote before the same season playoffs but they take the previous playoffs into consideration, an MVP even if he loses has to go out fighting and not be a reason to why his team lost, you can’t award MVP’s to player who do great in the regular season but then fold when it all counts, there’s only 1 after all and you can’t just give it out to players who really don’t deserve it as much as others
@@jooyichenI never thought of it that way.
I thought the MVP would go to the player who had the most impactful regular season, and that was it.
Anthony Edwards is my serious dark horse. If he takes a jump, gets to 50+ wins, and can pick up a storyline of being almost the youngest MVP ever I can see it happening
Nice pick.. I agree completely he's so underrated
What Ive been thinking. Ever since the allstar break last year he went crazy. Insane 2 way player, top 3 in the league at that.
50 wins ain't gonna cut it. Chicago won 62 games when Rose won MVP.
Minnesota needs to win 60+ games, unless the West is a repeat of last season where all the teams records outside the top-2 seeds are extremely close 🤷♂️
No chance any perimeter player win MVP against the bigs who put up crazy numbers. Only point guards who put up high scoring and assists have a chance.
Incredible player
See this is my problem with the MVP, it’s sooo narrative based. Should just be the best player in that year, whether they’ve won it before or not, but instead it’s basically decided before the season starts that it’ll be one of about 3 players who fit the narrative
Except that’s demonstrably not been the case. Y’all have bad memories and too much confidence in them
@benjaminweiss1817 You talking about Embiid's MVP as the "joke MVP"? Or are you a salty Lakers fan?
@jtfc7286
The MVP award has always been about narratives.
Kawhi was undoubtedly the MVP in the 2016-17 regular season imo.
But due to 'analytics' and the media caring about numbers across all statistics, Westbrook and Harden were the top-2 candidates for the award that season 👎
@benjaminweiss1817 It is not based on narrative. Ever since 2012 the leader of the advanced stats was awarded MVP. Only this year the narrative influenced it, but Embiid was close.
When Jokic won MVPs and then lost in the playoffs it was due to being on a team riddled with injuries and questionable building choices. Everyone knows that, he played incredible both of those years in the playoffs. Embid fumbled his way through the playoffs… again. Despite having a fantastic team. I think that made a lot of people feel pretty stupid for not giving one of the two future NBA legends in Gianis and Jokic their 3rd.
Indeed.
If OKC wins 500 games this year boy I know something 🤣
love your content rustyman!! keep em coming, greetings from Vienna
Is Jokic continues to play at an MVP level, he will most certainly receive his third, and probably final, MVP. Because of his recent post season success and FMVP, proving that he was the REAL 2023 MVP, he has a high chance of winning another.
What makes you think it will be Jokic's final MVP? He's a player who relies on skill instead of athleticism, which means he'll probably peak when he's about 32 years old. Assuming he regresses back to his current level at the same rate, he will be a contender for the MVP until he's 36.
@@PlanetOfTheApes999 they only gave lebron four MVPS, I doubt they’ll give Jokic four as well 🤷♂️ doesn’t matter how good he plays
@@ControlYourKids I hope you're wrong. I hope they keep giving Jokic MVPs as long as he plays well enough to deserve them.
You know it and we all know it that Jokic should have been the real MVP.
Can't believe NBA gave a sympathy MVP to Embiid. They did Jokic dirty and on top of it, he happened to win the championship this year. 😂
Nba did wrong this time. Joking could have won 3 MVP in a row and made another history. SMH.....

He averged 33 11 and 5 on a 50+ win team
They ought to reverse their decision and give the MVP to Jokic. Given how badly Embiid played in the playoffs, and how Embiid threw his team under the bus rather than admitting he didn't play well, he doesn't deserve any award whatsoever.

I would love an SGA MVP. Does anyone know has any other team had 3 seperate players win MVP in a 10 year stretch before and did any of those teams do it with no rings or finals appearances?
Zion is a great dark horse option assuming he comes back in shape and has a relatively healthy season. NOP has a great team capable of a top seed in the west (as seen before he went down with injury) with great supporting players and bench depth and Zion is more than than capable of putting up MVP caliber numbers as was proven during just his 2nd year in the league. The most important thing forgotten here is narrative too. Storylines play such a crazy role in the MVP voting. Him coming back to from injury, all the off-court drama and a slew of doubters cooking him over the last couple of seasons.
I think this is a good list, and I also think it's a great year for a first-time winner. Shai, Luka, and Ant are the best picks, but to that I would add AD (I'm surprised he's not in the vid), Sabonis (you underrate him), and Haliburton (might be a couple years early on this one, but he should start turning more heads).
If Sabin is wins an mvp I’ll cash app you every dollar I have lmao. Dumb take.
SHIT, some interesting takes my man, gotta agree with this video
My list for MVP: Luka, Giannis, Jokic, Embiid.
Luka because after missing the playoffs he will be out for blood. Prediction: 34:12:9
Giannis because he will have to carry the load for a WAY past prime core. 28:12:6
Jokic because championship hangover and I feel like MPJ will get full of himself and miss more 3’s which will lower Jokic assist. 23:10:9
Embiid because he will have to carry the sixers with no harden. It’s kinda of weird. Embiid is my favorite to win MVP and has the best statistical chance, but with all that load it’s unlikely he plays 65 games which will make him ineligible for MVP. Hes either winner or getting disqualified.
can u do another nba deep dive i miss that series
Your point on luka doesn’t really apply too well just because the sheer narrative of missing the play offs and then bouncing hard to a higher seed would be massive for his case.
If he doesn't miss games for once this could be Anthony Davis's year. Otherwise I think international play is really gonna push Anthony Edwards up the hype list.
The fickle NBA media wants a US born superstar and Ant is the dude.
The media, ants black to win.... Call it is at is.
Davis is very good, has a top five finish in his career.
Not sure if I’d predict him to get it all though.
Sadly his reputation as an injury prone player and the fact that he has LeBron on his team makes it impossible for him to win imo
@@tomassantos87 His reputation as an injury prone player doesn't hurt his chances. It's the fact that he actually IS injury prone. Whenever he's healthy, people are falling all over themselves to anoint him, just like KD. But just like KD, both of them can't do it over enough games. Same with Kawhi.
My prediction is Luka but personally I’d like to see OKC improve and SGA get it
Luka is predicted every year but never wins. The problem is he never has a good enough team around him.
@@justinmartin1831 I think they’ll be pretty good this year. I can see Luka winning it if they at least get the 4th seed
@@justinmartin1831Luka Doncic has yet to come into the season in shape. He also needs to improve his free throw shooting. He only shoots 74% from the line. Those two things right there are unacceptable and are in direct correlation with one another. Can’t blame the team for the losses and credit the best player for the wins. Luka needs to improve to earn MVP.
@@youdontreallybelievethat it doesn't matter if he's in shape or what his free throw percentage is. What matters is if he puts up the numbers and his team ranks high enough in the standings. It's not like Jokic has a great body. What about Charles Barkley,.he won MVP. He always had one of the worst physiques. Giannis is a terrible free throw shooter and he won MVP same with Shaq and LeBron.

Joker's going to take the MVP award in 2024.
Watch curry win out off nowhere with a deep balanced team without any second option (klay, Wiggins, dray and cp3 are all Al,our on the same level) so the Tatum Luka argument won’t work.
Honestly, I would love for Steph to go crazy and win the MVP. That would be a blast.
That shirt is fire man 🔥
1. Joker 2. AD 3. Luka 4. Curry 5. Gianns
Dark horse Jimmy butler
Yeah, it might be Jokic. But I don't think he cares enough. Or at all.
I think he'll focus on building up CB, Watson, Tyson, Holiday, Zeke... Getting the team ready for the POs. Maybe Reggie will get comfortable.
That's my wishful thinking. I hope Malone has the same idea (give those&new guys almost starter minutes - to get to feel how it is to play for/with a championship team and find their roles).
MPJ will get better, Murray will get stronger, AG will probably play more outside (yep, I've said it) just to open up even more options... KCP will KCP even better.
That's my "dream"... Commit the first half of the season to "new" guys, manage the workload of the stars (1st unit), see what works, maybe make a move during the break, and then - tune up before the POs.
Exactly. They've proved it in the Regular Season. They've proved it in the Playoffs. They've won a chip. That's more than most teams ever do. The only thing to do now is to do it again, and again, and again. And that requires pacing yourselves, it requires building up the new blood, it requires gelling at the right time.
Jokic, unlike Embid, never performed poorly in the playoffs. Yes, he did not win the chip in his MVP years, but he definitely did not have poor performance.
Yeah, it's like night and day. Jokic gets better in the playoffs. Embiid always plays worse. I love it.
Having SGA over Jokic is like putting Dame in the top 75 but not Parker.
It's stupid
For me I think it’s between Jokic, Tatum and Luka. Embiid was too controversial last year, and I think the Bucks will take a step back record wise which will hurt Giannis.
I think Jokic has the best odds to make up for last year and then Tatum because I trust the Celtics more than the Mavs. But we’ll see.
Tatum is horrifically inconsistent. If he has a bad week, he'll shoot himself out of the race. My money's on Jokic, Luka, and Shai.
@@antoniotrivelloni8191 I think “horrifically” is a strong word. He has had rough patches in the past but he’s improved every year and I see no reason for him to stop now. Also he’s leagues ahead of Luka defensively.
@@antoniotrivelloni8191 horrifically my ass
@@thecourier6067 but thats all he has on luka. scoring and playmaking, plus bbiq all go to luka
@@LuisLRC Luka may be better at those things, but there’s something to be said about a less heliocentric player who’s capable of elevating a well rounded team. Luka has had a few all star caliber teammates, not as many as tatum but still, yet his play style hasn’t been conducive towards winning. Tatum has been streaky but has improved year after year.
I think Tatum averaging
31 PPG 10 RPG 5.5 APG and All Defensive on 55+ win team is totally within the realm of possibility next year.
I think Lukas assists will be consistently higher but his wins and defense will also likely be much worse.
Embiid would have to win the scoring title again and the Nuggets to really struggle. 76ers need to have a strong record too of course.
I’m also high on okc sacramento is also interesting to me swipa really impressed me.
Now there is a requirement of 65 games? Embiid rarely plays 60 games, Davis , made out of crystal, Jimmy Butler is an MVP caliber player, case in hand, he got injured they were unable to overcome his production, Tatum nah, Luka has to maintain his conditioning in check. And the Joker should be the leading candidate
4:12 yo wtf 💀 🤣
OKC has a chance to be a 500+ win team this year. heard it here first, folks!
The 2024 MVP will be whoever the media cries for it to be, not who actually deserves it.
Giannis revenge tour incoming... 💪
I really like your videos (on your 2nd channel aswell) but predicting before a season isnt rly a new nor rational
gotta change it up a bit G. every video looks and sounds the same no matter whats the topic of the video. gotta adapt/change to grow homie and growth would be much deserved 😘 much love
if he and his team stays healthy, it should be jokic again. But as we all know, media won't allow it
2 other names that could be mentionned to make it a top 10: Jalen and Dame.
But for those 2, it will be with convincing numbers AND a top 3 or 2 ranking for their team...
Newsflash.... take out every guard except luka from ur prediction list.
NBA lists league leaders by EFF now, not just points....which means you need both points, assists and rebounds and have decent/okayish % for fg/3pt/ft .
as long as you triple double with 25 points then you crack the top 10.... if you are 6'5 or smaller or just dont rebound well: which means SGA, Spida, Ant 4-7 reb per game.
Theyl need to get 35 ppg 7reb 7as with 50-40-90... we all know Embiid is a freethrow merchant so even at 80% FT thats 8 extra points ez and we all know him and jokic getting 10-13 boards per game and jokic gets 7-11 assists and embiid stacks up the blocks and a good 3pt%...
in reality its between embiid and jokic again, giannis is too inefficient from 3 and ft and he doesnt make assists.
A smallball legend like curry dont even stand a chance, he shoots the piss out the ball from every range... he scores a point per minute, but he plays in a system that doesnt get him assists and he has a body that doesnt give him rebounds.... add to that that this man aint never getting 7+ FT a game cuz they dont give him inside scoring calls and they dont call players pulling and bumping him offball, Curry could average 32pts in 30 minutes with 55-45-95 and the world goes OOH AHH thats never been done before!!
Hed still recieve less MVP votes cuz he aint nearing triple doubles.
(shit he currently holds the record as the only player to do 50-40-90 and he did it 3 times... so what you want from the guy... breaks accuracy records left and right that dont get you a trophy!
End of the day, current NBA either 25 points high % triple double player wins MVP or the guy that wins the scoring title by freethrow merchanting and grabbing 10+ rebounds also wins MVP.
cant be a 30 minute player, cant be a 18 FGA player without triple double.... big guy wins the mvp, guaranteed!
Jokic already proved that it really doesn’t matter. The ring is what matters tbh
Yep, with how corrupt this last year's MVP was, it showed that it didn't matter at all. Put it on the court, in the playoffs, when it matters.
If OKC gets 500 wins this year they will HAVE to be in discussion for best team of all time
My dark horse candidate is de’aaron fox. I Can see him having a breakout season where he brings up his Ppg and shooting percentage as well as leading the kings to the third seed again.
I'm going with Luka, Jokic and SGA this time. (In order) The argument against Luka needing a great Kyrie season to get high in the standings is a good one, which will impact his box numbers for sure. However, last year he was already on a great trajectory (at least individually) before he had some injury issues and his team kinda fell off. Following the trade deadline, they couldn't get it to work quickly enough. However I believe this great early to mid season last year, gives him good momentum in the voting.
Jokic probably will put up better numbers, except in scoring, which is what people look at with MVP more than anything else. And I believe SGA's chances are probably better than ever, being so much more of a scorer than his teammates and he has a very complete package to not only fill up a great statsheet but also impress in other ways. (like scoring game winners, clutch points or key defensive plays)
That said, Luka has been at or near the top of the MVP talks every season he was in and with all the momentum behind him, the new and improved roster and him coming back with a vengeance this season, he will probably be able to make it and the Mavs will be a top team again.
Anthony Edwards should be there to,if he continues to play good as in last year playoffs.I think NBA will push for a homegrown player but we will see at the end
@@bojanmilenkovic2043 He has the potential for sure. I like his mentality most of all, a winner that doesn't complain and just plays. He wasn't MVP level last season, but if he makes another leap this year, he can be in the mix.
One question I have that could be a factor here:
Is one of the conferences considered significantly better than the other right now?
The Nuggets, Suns, Kings, Lakers, and Warriors/Thunder are probably going to be top of the west.
The Celtics, Bucks, Heat (with Dame), Cavs, and Knicks in the East.
I’d say the West is overall stronger, but it’s getting closer and closer every year.
The west is much stronger. The east really only has celtics and bucks as competitors. If dame joins Miami it could change tho
Rusty you are narrative guy to put SGA on second place.
Everyone knows it’s gonna be Jayson Tatum or luka doncic
My 2 front runners
That’s what they say every year
They been saying it’s Luka’s year for 3 yrs now. Gotta give it a rest. His team is too mid for him to win MVP yet
Tatum has way to much help and Luka has to little
yeah ig Giannis doesn’t exist anymore
Voter fatigue is definitely a deciding factor but u know Jokic MVP runs remind me exactly what happened with Giannis he had won two in a row and a DPOY and he told the media I can’t be the MVP if I don’t win a title which is just the kind of player he is but that third year he didn’t win the MVP and the rest is history he wins the title while having one of the greatest game 6 we have ever seen same with Jokic that third MVP snub seems to help win chips
SGA has to start sharing the ball more this season though, Luka might win the narrative game if there isn't too much negative news about his play or teammate.
"This is not who I think should win MVP, but rather who I think will"
Thank you for clarifying. There are too many people that dont understand, that last season and any previous season should not have any weight for this years MVP...
Let’s not forget about giannis 🙌
It will be between Murray, Tatum, and Booker. Mark my words Murray and Booker will at least be in the top ten in votes and I believe Jokic will take a step back to let Murray show out.
Murray as in Jamal Murray ??
@michaelkeitof4666 Yes. Did you see what I said about him and Jokic?
I don't know if a player who has never been an All-Star, All-NBA or All-Defense can win but I will say that Booker has a narrow path, kind of like AD or LBJ. If he is the only healthy star on his team and drags them to fifty wins, he's got a shot.
@aaronghunter I understand. SGA finished fifth in voting last year as a first time all star. I think it's possible that Murray will make his first this season and I'm predicting that his season will be one for the books especially if Jokic falls back and let's Murray do his thing. If he finishes in the top three I'm fine with that. We'll see how this ages within the first three months of the season.
@@khalfanjunim2982 lol no chance bruh . As long as jokic is on that team Jamal will never even sniff mvp votings. The bare minimum mvp requirement is to be the best player on the team and Murray nowhere near jokic
Embiid's MVP was a Mickey Mouse MVP.
Being able to produce great results on the crucial games and in the clutch is vital for a great player. Embiid does a dissappearing act on those occasions
I think Giannis is cooking up a monster season, that being said Joker is a basketball savant who could probably put up a triple double every night if he wanted.
Last year's race was classically toxic..
SGA getting MVP hype😳 i love it😏
I’m gonna say Anthony Edwards. Long shot but I think he’ll hit every criteria. Wolves are going to win plenty of games and ANT has been getting better and better every year.
0 shot
That’s not a long shot…..it’s an impossible shot. Edwards might get one in the future but the Twolves are going to be trash, especially in the west
not impossible super unlikely but man look at drose it's possible
Ant probably needs 2-3 more seasons to reach MPV level (if he's going to). I think he takes a significant leap this year with his time playing on team USA but he just needs to keep learning the NBA game.
@@masta_waynethey are the best western team the Nuggets faced. KAT would be healthy now and Jaden& Ant improves too
I don’t think this will happen, if we’re gonna mention Edwards, I think Fox will get talked about. Highest scorer in the clutch and his playoff performance was great in a losing effort to the Warriors.. if he builds on that this season, I think he’ll get a look
I’m calling itll be Luka but like deadass this time
I hope Jokic does win. If not, I see Shae and Luca as battling to win.
Anthony Edwards
Luka, Ant, Shai will be the new Giannis, Embiid, Jokic fight
Luka only needs the mavs to secure home court to win the mvp, cause the media has a little bias to crown him as the best player in the world. (Don't get me wrong, he is really a MVP caliber player, I just see a easier path for him than for some other franchise players, because of the status that he got.)
I think the Perkins race narrative is just the tip of the iceburg. I think there are a lot of people who are getting insecure because two white guys might be the best players in the NBA. And I think Luka is gonna face the same crap that Joker did. The race narrative has always been there. Even with Steve Nash and Larry Bird.
I think it’s gonna be another Jokic vs Giannis year with the main argument being that Jokic won a ring and was robbed vs the fact that giannis hasn’t won mvp for several years despite being deserving due to voter fatigue so he should get a 3rd before Jokic. Other than that Tatum is the only other guy I see being a factor. I think SGA’s number take a small step back this year with the rest of the team around him improving and the thunder also aren’t quite as good as people hope so that narrative will be killed.
As long as we don't split up this award in Offensive Player of the Year and MVP, I don't really care about the outcome
Everyone I think about having a chance; when I compare them to Jokic they suddenly have no chance. He's a generational talent in his prime at the peak of his powers. Jokic has the league by the ass for the next 2-3 years.
i could totally see the voters doing a makeup award for jokic that'll be so satisfying to watch
Luka, Shai, Jokic, and Giannis are the guys I think have the best chance going into this season.
Rusty I disagree with the take that Giannis would have beaten the heat if he was healthy….even when he played against them healthy he was not as effective because of the heats physical defense and Eric’s defensive game plan to bait Giannis into trying to be dominant which is -1pt on most shots the rest of the team take at a higher %than his would be against this particular team.
I think Luka and SGA have the highest chances if they can dramatically increase their spot in the West. The safest bet imo is actually Giannis, bc he’s always in contention for MVP and DPOY.
MVP a related question I have (I’ve asked this before, but I get interesting answers so I’ll ask it here as well):
Who is the best player you don’t see listed below.
This is every player (122 in total) who has ever finished top five in an MVP vote:
ABA Players (24):
Connie Hawkins
Doug Moe
Mel Daniels
Larry Jones
Willie Somerset
Jimmy Jones
Rick Barry

Isaiah Thomas
Damian Lillard
Giannis Antetokounmpo
Paul George

Luka Doncic
Joel Embiid
Devin Booker
Jayson Tatum
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
And I’ll throw in a shoutout to Joe Fulks, Neil Johnston, George Mikan, and a few others from the league’s first decade (those three of whom won scoring titles). It may have been a less popular sport then, but the best of those players more than likely also would have finished top five in an MVP vote if the award existed throughout their respective primes (I believe 1955 was the first MVP).
The Joel embiid slander nowadays is so wild
Embiid had a bigger pity mvp than Karl Malone in 97 lol
Don't sleep on GIANNIS ANTETOKOUNMPO
i think tatum and luka have an infinitely higher chance of winning mvp than embiid. Other than that all solid takes
Tatum, Fox or Brunson you heard it here first.
Joel’s teammates play has been worse than his in the postseason besides game 7 this year vs Boston, BKN doubled him the entire series first round
Jokic only lost in the post season during his MVP runs due to teammate injuries. The guy played great in all of the games. Carrying a team of players who are currently benched or not playing in the NBA right now. They only won cause they’re healthy. None of his current teammates are superstars.
I understand the SGA love but he has to prove it again next season.
Man rating Tatum over Luka when he has done nothing but flop with vastly superior supporting cast is fucking laughable
SGA Tatum or Doncic this year for sure. Probably Tatum
I agreed with you on Embiid…until James Harden did what he did. Now he’ll have the narrative of carrying a team without a second star (unless Maxey makes a great leap)
Harden set him up and along with Perkins, earned him that MVP. Embiid won't be the same without Harden playing PG.
giannis has been in the mvp convo for like 5 years now
There will be a dozen names talked all the way to February.
Then it will be Jokic and Giannis. Maybe Luka if the Mavs don't suck.
Dame on the Heat
The player I'm surprised you didn't mention is Anthony Davis. AD's only real limiting factor is health--which can be quite limiting for him--but given good health, he could easily have a season where he is up for both MVP and DPOY. This is especially true if that Lakers team is as deep as it appears to be, and Davis isn't required to overexert his self
I think his offensive inconsistency even when healthy might also be an issue.
Major inconsistent too. Ain’t got that dawg in him
@@Maloman05 I thought about that, too. Still, if the Lakers have a good season and Davis is giving us something like 21 ppg and 12 reb with DPOY level defense, then I think he could pull a pretty effective narrative. Especially since he hasn't won an MVP yet
@@YouCallThataKnife253 Nah lebron will stole it from him because lebron always got the credit.
He's simply not respected enough, he would have to be clearly the best to win that, if it's a toss up people will chose against him.
Wouldn’t totally write off Steph. Or KD, especially if something weird happens like Booker missing time and them still winning. Bron is probably done though.
Where on the thumbnail is Giannis?
I feel like the NBA should do awards in the off-season after the playoffs. What y’all think?
Fred VanVleet
Ykb 💯
Boston definitely has too much for Tatum to win MVP but doncic and kyrie are a two-man show over there and we just saw and bead when a MVP with harden as his teammate so
Wait wait....😊 Is very first point 😂
