The restaurant was actually built in a warehouse and there was no air conditioning. The fake vomit was dairy made and it went bad causing the extras to literally vomit from how bad the smell was.
I remember Quentin Tarantino talking about this skit in an interview once. He talked about it being one of the most disturbing and impactful things he had seen.
You are the only person I've seen laugh on their first viewing of this scene...
It even took me a few re-watches before I started to laugh, and I grew up with the Pythons....
its because i have a sick personality LOL
One thing is not laughing at it, another one is not getting the satirical meaning of the scene
Every Christmas when the After Eight mints come out I always offer them round with “it’s only wafer thin.” 😆

@@bxkid7 be very careful, it’s very easy to eat an entire box in one sitting. Lol. Me and my sister always fight over who was the pig that ate the most.

My grandma used to have an empty box with just the wrappers in on her mantle piece when I was little and every time I went round I was so disappointed. I was so sure one day she would buy some new ones and replace that darned box lol 😂
Fun fact: the people sitting at the tables at the end of the sketch were genuinely throwing up there, because of how bad the fake vomit smelled

There are so many brilliant scenes from this film "The Meaning of Life". One of my favourites is the grim reaper scene.
" Darling theres someone at the door! Err... a Mr Death....Something about the reaping?? "

This sketch was very nearly cut from the film during the writing process, however John Cleese re-read it a few weeks later and asked Terry Jones if he and Graham Chapman could go away and rework it a little bit, because he thought the waiter character could be very funny.
Also, ‘The Meaning of Life’ is the only film ever that has made Quentin Tarantino feel sick. Think about it.
So glad this scene made it cuz has to be one of the best scenes i ever have seen

My mother suffers from emetafobia, which is basically a phobia of anything to do with vomit.
She’s so bad with that growing up even when I’ve been ill and throwing up she just couldn’t deal with it and had to get my dad to help comfort me and help out and then my stepdad when he moved in as even the noise she just can’t handle it.
So you can imagine this would be like her worst nightmare this sketch! 🤣😂

Not my favourite Python film (though still great), but Cleese's delivery of _It's only waaaffer theen_ has always held a special place in my heart.
