Mr. Creosote appeared in that scene as a metaphor for gluttony, one of the seven deadly sins. Also, the smell was so bad some of the actors vomited for real.
But it was not real vomit, so it shouldn't smell like vomit. If anyone really vomited he was probably disgusted by the sight of it all. But i think it is probably just a rumor that movie fans like to believe about movie scenes they are impressed with. Like in Pazolini's Salo, some say that what the actors ate in the dinner scene was real excrement, which of course was not. It was chocolate mixed with marmelade. Disgustingly sweet and nasty looking, but not poo.
The puke was dehydration minestrone soup, and smelled terrible being heated up by the studio lights. So the two people sitting down and puking actually puked from the smell and look. XD
I thought you said you had seen this before. This was hysterical when we saw it when the movie came out. The joke was after all that excess, it was a simple wafer that brought about the end of him. I'm sure every Monty Python fan has used the expression "Would you like a wafer" to someone after they have overindulged in something.
Yeah, the phrase people would repeat back when this film was popular was "It's only wafer thin." And I kept remembering too how it looked to see this on a huge screen in a theatre. People were falling out of their chairs laughing, including me.
When me and my brother saw this in a theater, everyone watching was totally grossed out by Mr. Creosote exploding, while me and my brother were laughing hysterically, the only ones laughing, and seeing everyone sick and disgusted by the nauseating sight of a morbidly obese man exploding after eating a wafer thin mint, just made the whole scene funnier, and while it still cracks me up, it'll never match the intensity of the first time i saw it 😂😅
I love the Monty Python movies but this scene always makes me physically ill. I only watched this reaction for your reaction to it. I enjoy watching your channel. I like your honesty.
Quentin Tarantino has said that this is the only scene in any film that has made him feel queasy. Think about that. This scene very nearly didn’t make it into the final film. When they were originally reading out material for the film, Mr Creosote got thrown into the reject pile. It was only later when John Cleese fished it out and asked Terry Jones if he could rework it, because he believed that the waiter was the funniest character in the scene and he wanted to play it.
@@HeavyMProductions It's not like there's a ha-ha-joke to "get" here. It's satire, about the disgusting downside to (the wealthy parts of) humanity, compensating for the lack of a meaning of life by consuming themselves to death. But I think it's absolutely brilliant.
@@HeavyMProductions Well then. If one eat too much you end up wanting more and ultimately the body will reject all food because its become poison and you will basically puke until you drown
I think the point of the joke is that it's a fancy restaurant and he's such a big name in the business world nobody complains about him being there, despite how disgusting he is.
Creosote is a black oil or tar based liquid that I used to paint pieces of wood my chickens were going to roost on, because it apparently prevented parasites living in the wood.
We see lots of finished-up dishes one on top of the other, so Mr Creosote did not have everything he ordered mixed up in a bucket as he had asked. Probably changed his mind. But something i feel is missing, is that we see him vomiting but we don't see him eating at all.
Back in the day I thought the couple saying they had a train to catch were being serious, I was 12 when I saw this on TV and I even taped it and watched the scene where Mr Creosote explodes over and over again. Compared to some of the other scenes the Mr Creosote scene looks more like it was filmed in 1992 rather than 1982, maybe some of the other scenes were shot several years earlier as I think the entire film was the result of at least 3 years work. It is equelly as funny as it is disgusting. I think Mr Creosote was supposed to be a picture of gluttony.
This sketch is based on the 'Comedy of Manners' films that were popular in the 1940s and 50s, and sometimes starred Noel Coward, whom Eric Idle is doing an uncannily good impression of in this clip. The key to the humour is not Mr. Creosote's disgusting behaviour, it's the waiter's (and the other diners') reaction to it. Carol Cleveland is so desperate to not 'create a scene' about the puking, that she says the first thing that comes into her head, thus creating more social embarrassment. The waiter is the chief protagonist, John Cleese asked for the sketch to be rewritten as he saw the opportunity for the waiter to draw the laughs. He maintains his professionalism in the face of abhorrent behaviour. Something Basil Fawlty would have struggled with😆
That was a great movie ha ha ha I love Monty Python. I have all their movies and shows on DVD and watch them a lot, especially The Life of Brian. Come on mate don't be such a baby it's only make-believe lol. When you've had kids, you tend to be a lot less squeamish about vomit and all other bodily functions sigh.
It's such a basic, gross seeming sketch on the surface, but when you think about it more, it's definitely a commentary on society, as the entire restaurant staff, and even the other rich diners, are willing to tolerate Mr. Creosote's repulsiveness because he's a wealthy, frequent customer. Even the other wealthy patrons make lame excuses to leave rather than suggesting Creosote is the problem.
I know this is fake but Jes do they have to show him throwing up all the time I had to put my hand blocking the screen so I would not see it that is so disturbing
I don't like Monty python stuff that episode made me fell sick you may think it funny but I thought it was gross I have a very weak stomach so what I wrote yesterday was how I felt

Makes sense!

Thanks for the explanation! I hadn't seen this movie in years. Probably since I was a teen...

You'd have to watch the movie to realise whole context of the true meaning of life. Obesity is part of life for some.
As someone who is obese and nearly 40 years old, I still don't get it!
I don’t find it funny at all just disprove never seen this movie and kinda glad I haven’t

This was created in 1983!!!👀
Yeah. And they were on their biggest budget.

Haha! That's really funny 😂 Good job vlogging! Good job acting Terry Jones He will be missed 😢
When you said oh my, really got me!! Lol how funny... 😂
It's amazing you still have a VHS video tape.
Is it weird that this scene makes me hungry🤔

Well, she did say she didn't want to go bleeding all over the train seats due to her rather heavy period.

Quite silly!😂
There is one scene worse than Mr. Creosote..Cartman's diarrhea in South Park's "World of Warcraft" episode!
No se compara. Está mierda la supera!..."" 🤢🤮
What the heck!? he ordered the lot??
An accurate portrayal of gluttony
