- In Georgia, a 10-year-old child was found walking by himself when he was noticed by his neighbors, who asked if he was okay. The hungry boy responded that he was going to the store to get food and didn’t want to go back home, prompting the neighbors to report it. My son was in public school till 4th grade but I took him out to homeschool him because of the teachers and students at his school. However.. I have him in other programs outside the school 4 times a week. I believe parents that homeschool their kids should be REQUIRED to send their kids to programs outside the home. Not only for protection just for social interaction. But that's just what I believe.

Her 12 AND 10 yr old are the subje to of the convictions and her other kids were also very abused but she didn't go to the same extreme she did with the youngest two. Fortunately none of those 6 kids have contact with her and I believe with Kevin.
I grew up hungry, had a lot of naps for dinner. I was never starved though. Even so it has left me with a lifelong food hoarding and binge eating disorder. I cannot imagine how he will heal from this, poor babe🥺😭

All of my kids hit the 36lb mark by 3yr old These people are disgusting!! Starvation is probably the worst form of torture especially for a child who is growing and needs additional calories
This little boy knew he didn't have long if he didn't make that desperate escape. Thank the Lord for vigilant neighbors. We all need to look out for our neighbors & anyone who may be in need of our help.

I raised 5 kids on my own and all the neighborhood kids came to my house to eat we didn't always have a lot but I always told them if there's any there plenty I would never let any kid go hungry

Same here. Just make more rice. The neighbor boys ate a lot of bread and olio. Thank the USA and the government cheese. canned meat and so on. I was 12 and fed a troop of hungry kids back in the 1959 and early 60s.

There seems to be so many child cruelty cases recently. Thankfully this child was saved by his neighbours. There are probably many other homes where children being treated like this child and nobody would ever know unless the child escapes. Until the punishment of the perpetrators fits the crime this will continue to go on. The law is far too soft on these monsters.

The exact same thing happens in FL too but yet they always say "it's all about the kids & making them safe! There's nothing safe w/any kid that's been/being abused by an adult especially when DCF (FL) or GPS (Ga) are involved! These agencies have to be investigated periodically w/every child under 18.

Thank goodness the courageous boy got out of that house and the neighbor found him. ❤ This is truly heartbreaking. Why? I'll never understand. Hopefully they get a very long prison sentence and that boy gets some recovery and a new loving home.

This is so similar to Shanda Vander Ark. She ended up killing her son though. But just like her they enlisted an older sibling help and left the other children alone.

My son was 12 lbs at birth. I can’t imagine being the officers or the neighbors to see this. I wouldn’t want him to go home either. We need stricter/harsher punishments for anyone who is capable of this long lasting trauma or any pain at all to a child. Makes me sick that now these messed up people will now receive way better treatment in jail/prison than they ever gave that innocent baby boy.

Personally I don’t think harsher punishments is the answer. Whoever would do this to a child wouldn’t not do it if It meant more jail time. I think the main thing is setting up some kind of system to check up on homeschooled children. That’s a common thing because kids that attend school are noticed fairly quickly. If I’m not mistaken the last 3 public cases like this involved kids that were supposed to be home schooled.

Home schooling is a major red flag in all of these cases. I agree that stricter checks and regulations need to be implemented.
Agreed, you shouldn't be able to just disappear by pulling your kid out of school and saying you're going to homeschool them. There needs to be a lot of tighter regulations and monitoring of homeschooled children.
I homeschool and these monster parents give it a bad rep. Very upsetting.

However, a lot clearly are and the only way to identify which are and which aren't is to overhaul the system for checking up and monitoring all homeschooled children.

Being an adopted person myself, this case really hurts! Matter of fact, tears are streaming down my face! So many people would have taken these children and LOVED them and would have given them a good home! Why were they given to these monsters?! Hugs to this little boy! ❤
There needs to be stronger laws and consequences for parents/caregivers. That torture children, starvation is one of the worst ways to die. The other children will need therapy for the trauma that they witnessed. Fear of what will happen to them if they do something wrong. Fear for their lives and safety. The kids that were fed were still being tortured by living in those conditions. ❤

It doesn't surprise me that the 20 year old did something, he probably grew up seeing them get abused. So I hope even though he got arrested he gets help, for the way he looks at things. He is a product of his environment.

Thank you to the woman who helped, called to police. Didn’t let the mom have him back when she went out looking. Didn’t take their lies at face value. Too many times others “don’t wanna get involved in family issues” these are babies, it’s our job as adults to protect them from harm! Sadly sometimes that harm comes from the parents. Makes me think of that one family, the Hearts I believe? Two women with a bunch of adopted kids they liked to parade around for views while staring and abusing them. Those kids were failed by everyone and they paid with their lives because others didn’t want to intrude. Sometimes we must!
I hope someone in prison helps this "mom and dad" right out of this world. My 10 yr old daughter is super skinny athletic kid. She weights 82lbs. Sickening.

That will never happen. Our tax money goes to the governments debt to banks first. Nothing for the poor, schools, or mental health.
CPS needs to do random surprise visits on these homes to ensure that these kids are being treated and cared for properly. Raising five children is a rough job for any parent. When people start adopting so many children and then homeschooling them while at the same time running a business. There’s no way that would even be possible. At least one the parents would have to stay home full-time to school their children. If that’s not a red flag, then I don’t know what it is.
I don’t think that would matter, cps is a broken system. They consistently fail kids. They failed the kids in my home growing up and little has changed. Look at the Gabriel Fernandez case. That poor boy was murdered and cps had been called over and over again
Parents who abuse, generally pick 1 or 2 kids to abuse.
If that child escapes, leaves or whatever, then another child will be picked to take the place.
Sounds like this is what was going on here to a degree.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this is true for every household with abuse towards the kid(s) in it, just that some do.
This reminds me of the Timothy Ferguson case.. I am just glad the kids are alive and away from these terrible parents and brother.

@@hejkoIt’s just because these are the cases you hear about. We adopted several children, we homeschool and are Christians. With all of the foster, adoption training and anti-human trafficking training we have done - there is crazy abuse going on in many many homes which is why there are so many kids in foster care and end up being trafficked as well. I get the narrative about “devout religious” and “homeschool” combined as red flags - but it’s really because these are the ones you just happen to hear about - there are many many cases of abuse in non-religious and in-schooled children that go unnoticed for too long. This story is horrific along with the Ruby Franke case and Turpins. I’m in tears. I’m just saying all of this to say - don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. The main take away - is be aware of those around you and say something that doesn’t seem right. I’m much much more aware and have even taken action because of the training we have had. Abuse is everywhere. See something. Say something.
There is a series of books, written by David Peltzer, starting with a child called it. They are accounts of a scapegoated child, Dave, and his mothers torture of him. They will really help you understand this phenomenon. 💔

Often, one child in an abusive family is targeted for abuse, but make no mistake, all members are affected.
Evil exists in all socioeconomic backgrounds. Money unfortunately makes it easier for these monsters to hide in plain sight.
Sadly its a horrific story of a scapegoat vs golden child of abusive parents.
The scapegoat is singled out and blamed for problems in the family. They remind the parent of their own perceived imperfections.
While the golden child may be the parents little helper, ensures the scapegoat does as told, if they step out of line they may help enforce harshly. Whatever it takes to stay on the parents good side.
Poor poor child. I hope he recovers and heals emotionally and spiritually. Much love to him. These people who use and abuse children are evil... Totally despicable. There should be jail for life.
He was NOT their child, he was a foster child that they adopted. Typical negligence on the part of the state foster care system.
Repeat, these are NOT the parents of the victim.
Even if he wasn't theirs by blood they adopted him. They are his parents even though they never should have been allowed to adopt him. They might be the only parents he remembers. (I'm adopted, my mom is my mom regardless if I'm adopted.)

This is how another story started. Turned out the cousin tried all kinds of authorities and no one listened so she had to disappear.
Well, I caught this near the end that the older step brother was arrested for trying to strangle the 10 year old. Sick.

People tend to “scapegoat” certain people. It’s messed up but if you look you see it everywhere.

The poor wee soul was probably wondering what he and only he had done to deserve this and why his siblings were treated "normally". They need to have stricter laws when it comes to home schooling and being monitored as it's a way for some to slip under the radar and get away with this type of neglect/cruelty.
And those of us who would never harm our children don’t need more state oversight in raising our children.
Kids who attend school are tortured by parents as well, but maybe if people generally looked out for one another and cared as much as they think, they could be more vigilant about paying attention to friends, family, coworkers, etc.

This case, (totally heartbreaking) Shanda Vander Ark, the Turpins and others I can’t remember right now, make me thik about sadism. Messages between Shonda and Paul made ir pretty clear for me. In this case, the question es why. If the parents had food, if they knew that you cannot let a child starve, and can’t ever let a child locked in a room for hours or days, and did it anyway, and starved their son almost to death, it sounds like sadism.I don’t know if in the US the courts order psycological and psiquiatric evaluation, but in this case it would be important. Sorry if I made mistakes in English, and greetings from Chile. Still summer.

We didn’t have access to news like we do today, but looking through FBI crime statistics, and state crime data we are not more heinous and evil than ever, they just used to keep it brushed under the rug
There needs to be extreme oversight of these parents around the country who "homeschool". Especially these so-called Christian homeschoolers. I worked in Barnes & Noble children's department years back, and those homeschooler customers were, all too often, the absolute weirdest people. This case is absolutely disgusting.

Infuriating! Ethan Washburn had a chance to help his step-brother. Instead, he stayed removed and silent even knowing that he had actually tried to strangle the boy twice. He had a choice to mitigate his actions. So, tough titties to all three for harsh sentences.

How the fark is this any different than Jodi Hildebrandt and Ruby Franke? The charges here are just and severe. Why not the same charges in the case in Utah/Idaho. Charges there in Georgia: Attempted Murder in 2nd Degree, Attempted Malice Murder, Cruelty to children in both 1st & 2nd & 3rd degree; Battery & false imprisonment...Why is there a possibility/ probability that Ruby & Jodi get let off lighter?
