People need to recognize that Vanessa Williams is a true trailblazer. A true soldier. As the first black Miss America, she was raked over the coals. There were death threats. Johnny Carson made ugly remarks about her and she was mistaken for a servant at a white house function. But, like a phoenix from the ashes, Vanessa rose to the challenge and took the entertainment industry by storm. She will always have my unwavering respect.

@@swannyriver75 musically and artistically, the 70s and 80s were a glorious time, but there were a lot of racial barriers and hurdles. There was a lot of overt racism.
Many people forget the runner-up, Suzette Charles, is also "African-American." She served as Miss America when Vanessa was forced to resign.
I remember watching that pageant and thinking, "If a black woman is the runner-up, there is no way a black woman is going to win." When they crowned Vanessa, I was overjoyed! Soon, my joy would be overshadowed by the vitriol that followed.
The younger generation has no idea what this black queen represents or what the public put her through, and how she managed to rise through it all with grace, beauty and class. Never a victim!!!

Well said. I remember cheering the night she was crowned and being horrified at the vile treatment she endured, all with incredible grace and dignity. The word icon is so overused today, but it certainly applies when speaking of Vanessa.

@@Jaedoe888 As long as you enjoy it keep at it. In the meantime start planning finaciallly and ponder what you want your retirement years to consist of by talking to those who have retired successfully. Plan that trip you never went on, etc.

When I was a kid and “The Comfort Zone” album came out, my mom played that tape inside and out!!! I remember every song from it and have it downloaded to listen to at any time. I’ve always loved Ms. Vanessa!!!! Glad to see her aging gracefully!❤

I love Vanessa she said that it's a privilege to get old especially these days life can be so short. I love how she's not obsessed with plastic surgery trying to look like she's in her 20s or 30s as a 60 year old woman embracing the stage she's at and she's beautiful inside and out.

Yes it is definitely a privilege and a blessing to grow older. I just turned 47 years old. Some people didn't make it to 40,30,20.
I turned 60 in March just like Vanessa and we have so many things in common. She is absolutely correct, aging makes you not really care about what others think and you get to slow down and really appreciate the people in your life.

Vanessa is one of the very select few that is actually naturally beautiful.
She's beautiful inside an out.
What does "naturally beautiful" mean? She is wearing makeup , has dyed her hair and we have no idea if she has had plastic surgery or not. She has openly talked about using botox and "ultherapy". I hate comments like your's, it is idiotic seeing as nearlyy everybody on TV is wearing makeup let alone everything else. Millions of people look amazing due to plastic surgery but we have no idea because it looks natural. People only moan about "looking fake" when the "work done" is bad work.

Among the most memorable moments of my life was when I met Vanessa in 1990 when a local radio station brought her to their "indoor beach party" to autograph some posters and 8x10's (yes, I still have mine). She couldn't have been more gracious. I asked about her upcoming projects and she mentioned that she was working on a new album (which ended up being "The Comfort Zone") and a Perry Mason TV movie. We only talked for a couple of minutes, but head was in the clouds when I left. Seeing her at this interview reminded me of a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt: "Being young and beautiful is an accident of nature, but being older and beautiful is a work of art."
I would so like to see Vanessa Williams and Gezelle Bryant meet on the show. These are two totally gorgeous women!!
