In this video of Jake and Joel are Magic, Joel goes over 3 different ways to build RATS as a creature type deck in Commander: Strong, Fun, and Mean. Whether it's a meme or your dream deck you are putting together, make sure sure you check out the full video for all the different EDH strategies for a Commander designed specifically to for RATS. Check out Lord Skitter, Marrow-Gnawer, and Karumonix as the leader of your Commander deck!. As always, thank you for spending your time with us and checking out the Three Ways series!
    About the Three-Ways Series:
Some people like their chicken wings sweet while others prefer them scorching hot; either way, you are eating chicken. Magic the Gathering is a game with many different rules and building a Commander deck that works takes some time and strategy. Understanding the commander of your deck will help inform a deck-building plan that works for you. In this series, Joel discusses commander strategies for every player. This broad-strokes approach will give you a basic breakdown of the commander and three different ways you can build your deck to work with its abilities, without providing a full deck-tech.
    What is Commander:
Commander, officially recognized on June 17, 2011, originated from a format called EDH (Elder Dragon Highlander-- there can only be one). The first time we played EDH was around 2009. It is easily the best way to play Magic: The Gathering. The idea was to have a casual format with 100 cards and only a single copy of any one card, with a General: a singular Legendary Creature card in its own zone that can be cast any time, once you have the mana for it. If your general is removed, it goes up by a casting cost of 2 for each time it is removed. Once WOTC officially recognized the format and printed the first Commander product, your General was instead called your Commander and instead of the format being called EDH, it instead became recognized as Commander. If you ever hear anyone say EDH, they are talking about Commander. Make sure to know the cards that are banned in the format before building your deck (listed below).

Missed this series ngl. 99% of channels are just focused on optimisation.... Which tbh is staggeringly easy. Fun builds only for me, thanks.

Ashcoat of the Shadowswarm with Colony Rats is my favorite way to build the tribe.

I recently replaced Marrow-Gnawer with Ashcoat as my rat commander, not expecting to keep it for long, but oh boy Ashcoat is a beast. The new rat commander from WoE will be going in the 99 for sure.

While I will never disagree Relentless Rats is a great option, I personally run Rat Colony instead, for 2 main reasons. Cost one mana less and buffs off each rat. That being said, of course Marrow Gnawer is my commander. He and Rat Colony just work so well together. Had a couple games where I'm swinging multiple Rat Colonies with power in the 60s each

    @13:45
Is very important To mention that thornbite , staff does trigger when you sacrifice a Rat token because You are allowed to sacrifice rent tokens and then Create double the amount of rats on the field and because technically A token does go to the graveyard. Even for a split second before it is extinguished from the game, it does untap your commander. Meaning if you keep sacrificing tokens, you can do this indefinitely. It is my favorite Infinite combo that I do at local Championships regularly.
If you activate his effect, only 100 times because your rats are doubling each and every time you end up with.
    146 quintillion rats.
Then if you play gruesome fate.
Each opponent loses life equal to the number of creatures you control.( This does infact include tokens.)
So by turn five at the latest if you have Both the staff and gruesome fate. You can instantly kill all opponents

The best one is poison infect.. but this build will require some heavy black staples like phyrexian obliterator, sheoldred, 5+ tutors and reanimation. I was going along with enchantment equip spells but alot of ppl running something to counter that atm so instead - I've gone with a theme of:-
    Karumonix, the rat king
    Infect
    Poison
    Draw [13]
    Attack^-/+//death-gain[s] [6]
    Token-/+/swarm/+/ [11]
    Death touch [4]
    3x board wipes
    5x tutors
    7x removals
    +1/+1's
    Reanimation [2]
    Indestructible [3]
Upgrades I'd consider is something for mana ramp and a jeweled lotus

I finished a local commander return event in first place using.
    Marrow-gnawer As my commander.
I also had the other commanders you listed in the deck as well and he can create so many rats. Unless your opponent has a board wipe, you are unstoppable.
My final game was going so long and I was playing against a green-white black deck. That never.
Ended up drawing a board wipe. But they did have flying creatures which I did not. So they were slowly wearing me down.
By the time I made it to my last turn and next time. They were going to kill me with flying creatures I had.
517,210 4/4 Rat creature tokens with fear death. Touch lifelink and toxic one.
Plus my other creatures on board.By the time I attacked my phone it was at Negative 4.2 million health.
Definitely my favorite version to play Rats in commander. It's super fun and if you can at least make it to turn 5, you can easily have over a 100 rats on your board and with them being unblockable, you can just destroy all of your opponents.

I’m definitely a traditionalist when it comes to my rats deck. I stick with Marrow-Gnawer as my commander with relentless rats but then use the other rats that could be a commander in the 99.

I basically just decided to opt out of the relentless rays for my build. I would feel the need to run thrumming stone and idk I just want more utility.
I’m running karumonix with proliferate and an aristocrat package. Idk mono black is just a mean color.
