Landscape Photography - Yorkshire Dales/Braving the Elements

  • I return to Malhamdale in the Yorkshire Dales for another episode of my landscape photography adventures. This location is where it all started for me so I am fairly familiar with it and know what to expect. What does however is the weather and once again you find me battling with mother nature, braving the elements. I arrive before sunrise and bagged a shot. I then set off to find an alternate lone tree to 'The Malham lone tree' It's hardly ever easy, but that's the enjoyment.

    A sense of achievement. A sense of pride and artistic growth. A sense of direction and clarity. I may say this every time but this was one of your best. Where it all began for me. My friend, please take me to Malham soon. Oh and you would never get away with f/8 you losing your mind 😂 wonderful simply wonderful!!
    Yesterday, I was on Holme fell for the first time. Battered and scared by the high winds and then the snow and blizzard that hit me. I feel like you say. This is when everything happens! This is the sweet spot for photography.

      True words from a wise man. We shall go to the ball...sorry I mean the Dales. I will continue my journey to reach the dizzy the heights of stardom (summat like that anyway) 😬😬👍

    Like Galen Rowell said: It's the edges of nature that's interesting. The edges of the land out to sea. The edges or endings of a storm or in your case nasty rainy weather. The edges when the sun sets and rises. Great vlog, great images. I always enjoy a good video from Yorkshire!

    Dude! That first shot was absolutely fantastic! The colouring is just gorgeous, so much atmosphere. You must be super pleased with it. I am going to shoot at f/14 myself if that's the sort of result it produces!

      Thanks Chris It has ended up being more popular than what I thought. F/11 is so yesterday. F/14 is the future

      Appreciate it James, thank you. We should get together in the new year with a trip to the Dales. I should really explore other areas to be honest as well 👍

    That 1st shot was just beautiful. Great light, composition and processing. Please tell me that’s going the wall and not living on the PC.
    I also liked the composition of the lone tree. A huge dominating foreground with the tree very subtly used in the distance. Perfect 👌
    If you don’t have rain drops hanging off your nose, it’s not an authentic James Burns video.
    Well done mate 👍

      I do like a good adventure with adverse weather for sure. It’s a very good regarding prints. It’s not something I do enough. A good session this made especially good as my expectations were low. Cheers Daz 👍👍😬

    A cracking vlog James and despite (or maybe because of) the bad weather I thought your images were excellent. I'm still catching up on your videos btw. I should probably watch from the start but I'm so disorganised I pick at random.

    Stunning work, I think your pictures go up a level when you become more artistic and less "traditional". Great aesthetic

      @JamesRBurnsVLOG  Před 4 lety

      Very true. It’s important to come out of your comfort zone and not rely on the compositions that are often someone else’s. Thank you 👍👍

    James, just an observation on attaching your bag to your camera for stabilisation. You should make sure the bag is sitting on the ground otherwise the bag will swing in the wind and create even more instability on your tripod. Hope you don't mind me offering an opinion. Steve (Lancashire - God's Country😀)

    • @JamesRBurnsVLOG
      @JamesRBurnsVLOG  Před 4 lety

      Not sure about your last comment. Lanca what? 😬 Yes you’re right but the main reason for the bag was to stop the tripod falling over rather than camera stability for the shot. I’ll bear it in my mind. Many Thanks 👍👍

    You really are quite lucky with the weather aren't you? However bad weather can often produce that dramatic light which in turn give a great image. I particularly like the first image in wide format - lovely tones.

    Ah, what fantastic light at ~05:46. Really a fantastic photo, James! I think the tree on the left with the rocks in front had been an additional amazing composition from this perspective with a tele lens. But the lines of the rocks you captured - just WOW :)

    Really love the images....... But the white frames really distract from the images :-(

    • @JamesRBurnsVLOG
      @JamesRBurnsVLOG  Před 4 lety +2

      Thanks very much. I disagree with the white frame as I feel it directs the viewer even more to the image. If I were to print then it would have a white mount. Appreciate your view however 👍👍
