    Black and white photography on the banks of the Rochdale Canal. Doesn't sound that glamourous but you'll be surprised what I find

    Thanks for the peaceful walk. Like many i used to take pictures i thought others would like. Then i discovered patterns on walls and floors. I now enjoy photography and feel i have found my true self without needing to impress anyone but me 😊

      I think you got it. YOU see something in a scene, object or whatever. Trying to explain your vision to someone else, that's another story. When you see and hopefully like the result after post, you get too feel the pleasure and satisfaction. If someone else does, that's a bonus and your gift to them.

      That’s a great stance and approach. I find the practice of making photographs is equally as enjoyable as the end result

    HI, James.
    This is the definition of photography for me.
    I photograph for 95% in black-and-white.
    I love to drive around the city or the countryside with my mobility scooter, disabled in them, and search for these little gems.
    They call them the mundane but for me they are gems.
    Especially when you see them on your screen or printed out.
    Because then the surroundings are no longer visible and they become even more beautiful.
    Every year I make a book of the ones I like the most.
    Then it is nice when I look at them and remember what the circumstances were when I took the photo in question.
    Thank you, friend, for sharing this inspiring video.
    Antoine.

    I love to walk the canal with a small camera, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX80, which is an 8-year-old camera. It's great for that sort of photography. Black-and-white is one of my favourites. Thanks for a great video, James.

    A great video James and nice to see my local area from another person's perspective, especially a photographer and a black and white guy too. Black and white is my favourite but, like you, I'm open to variety and can't be labeled as a particular type of photographer, just simply a photographer and that suits me fine!

    At about the 10'Mark, the distant bridge and it's reflection with leading lines of the canal bank. Just caught my attention. I find it quite difficult to see in b&W. Colour is so overwhelming. At times I think there's nothing to shoot, but then just change your perspective and scale and a whole new world opens up. Just some thoughts as I watched your video. Well done.

    • @JamesRBurnsVLOG
      @JamesRBurnsVLOG  Před měsícem

      Thanks very much. There’s lots of scenes to be had if we look, which is the message here. Always helps with the monochrome profile setting on a digital camera but over time you get to know what works best.

  • @yaffulwoodpeckerpresents7784

    Really enjoyed this video. I am starting to use my camera in a different way too. I Used to think that I lived in a boring area as far as dramatic landscapes go but I now am experimenting with urban shots. Do you do a lot of editing on the computer with your images, and what is the advantage of shooting in black and white, over shooting in colour then converting to B/W after ? Thanks, Paul

    • @JamesRBurnsVLOG
      @JamesRBurnsVLOG  Před měsícem +1

      Thanks Paul. It’s good to try different things and keep the passion going. Very minimal editing. The shots you see here are straight out of camera, using the BW preset, and minimal crop if needed. The whole approach here is the instant result and the spontaneity it brings. It’s a refreshing change in comparison with the more traditional shoot in RAW and edit. All good fun

    "Photographing things, mundane things, differently". Yup. That's what photographing with a GR does! I think it's because of its size, and lack of a viewfinder. The GR is simply the finest camera money can buy. Better than a Leica! And don't neglect the older GRD's just as good, but more 'lo-fi'!

    • @JamesRBurnsVLOG
      @JamesRBurnsVLOG  Před měsícem

      Absolutely agree Tom. For years I’ve had Canon DSLRs and now the R6. Don’t get me wrong, I love that camera for my hiking trips but the GR for the Urban approach has relighted my photography
