Lorraine Toussaint and Viola Davis were my favorite defense attorneys in the L&O universe.
I did not like Stone's attitude in this episode. He claimed that the woman should have avoided the subway if she was that scared, WTF? Even after it was revealed the "victim" had a history of assaulting women, he still wanted to bust her for reckless endangerment. Carrying a concealed weapon I could understand, but anything beyond that amounts to blaming the victim. Her lawyer should have told Stone to kick rocks.
there's a lot of people on a certain side of the poltiical spectrum that are so against firearms and self defense, they will resort to "she was asking for it" arguments.
@@Shadi2 That's not what he was arguing against? He puts it out plainly he was worried that this was Vigilantism not self defense. But even if he didn't have a problem with it, he's a state prosecutor, it's literally his job to enforce sentencing on someone. It's the same thing as when a defense attorney defends a serial killer, whether they like it or not is irrelevant, they have a job to do
@@warhawk9566 except she was acting in self defense. other states/cities would have just said give up the gun and don't get caught without a carry permit. new york city is anti-self defense
It was revealed later she was acting as a vigilante. She bought a weapon and practised target shooting and carried it in concealed with intention of shooting
@@dryb3301 she acted in self defense. nyc hate s people defending themselves from criminals
Law and Order’s CZcams page got a real sense of humor posting this rn
Did something happen recently?
@@SRFAA you don’t what today and the next 24 days is?
@@KingDusk278 That's the only reason? It's an annual thing so didn't think it'd warrant a comment like this.
@@SRFAA but that’s the humor in it. Posting stuff that either mocks or goes against the yearly one month long tradition
@@KingDusk278 But this episode/clip isn't about that? It's about a woman who may have only attacked black kids because they were black.
What an astoundingly dated narrative artifact: at 3:57, a text-search of a major city-paper requires cajoling the coöperation of a grumpy clerk in the paper’s archives, instead of 20 seconds of typing and clicking at a keyboard! (And, you usually had to wait at least three days for the search result!!!)
@勇次郎 - That was entirely the point I was making. I thought it was so clear that, surely, no one would need me to spell it out for them. But it appears I may have overestimated you, at least.
Archives are so much more fun.
We should feel free to sit/go wherever/whenever you want. Law enforcement likes for us to wait for something to happen instead preventive measures.
When are the first 12 seasons of L&O coming to Peacock?!
Hopefully sooner or later
It's taking too long.

Someone’s asking the real questions! I noticed that too. Starts at season 13.
I cannot believe I forgot how much I liked Ben Stone.
He blamed the victim for not moving away like the other passengers? For not having good sensibilities or something? jeeze...
Street tuffs/toughs. I'll never not giggle at that term
you wouldn't get this in SVU. maybe near the start, but certainly not now. nah, just a whole episode of forced sexual tension, relationships nobody cares about, and benson being right about literally everything, even when she's wrong.
SVU to its detriment turned into the Olivia Benson show. And I used to really like her as a character.
@@josephmagana6235 Very true. The Benson character helped to ruin the show for me.
@@yukijames1321 it's like a "lifetime" network show.
Technically fans & viewers are actually crazy about the relationship stories, but Benson doesn’t try to be right about everything
@@yukijames1321 There are victims like that in real life as well
Did nurses still wear those outfits during the 80s early 90s?
Even in 1990, racial issues were talked about in this sense
They were not good guys, but she did go there with the intention of shooting people. They were targeted. She was a vigilante. They were doing something stupid and got caught in her web.
DA had to sort it out. That is the case.
How was she a vigilante? Her intention was to continue living in her neighborhood and not be cowed by thugs.
@@debblouin meeting by total accident = bystander.
Her intention was to run into such folks = vigilante.
@@debblouin she intentionally put herself in a dangerous situation. Like the wheelchair dude had pointed out: everyone else had stayed away from his group in the subway, but she had chose to sit near them.
@@debblouin that’s just the same plus you thinking she has a good reason

Like Russell Peters said, “everyone hates Mondays.”
Man, I *miss* this level of nuance on TV. This was an actual case (well, the shooter was a man) back in the day. You had grifters like Al Sharpton trying to make it about race when the guy was almost mugged and had a valid reason to shoot. Not sure if the episode addressed this, but IRL, the man kinda went into a rage and put an extra bullet in one of the muggers despite the guy being disabled already (which he admitted when questioned), so that was one angle where he could have been jailed, but as New York was in the middle of a crime wave and people were genuinely sick of it, this was an understandable response. Who cares about race when the muggers and assailants only care about what they can get from you?
Their was no evidence they were threatening him
Also how the hell is Al Sharpton a grifter?
@@shadowrobot7708 I can look up the case again, but there was 100% evidence they threatened him.
@@shadowrobot7708 ...are you joking? Al Sharpton encouraged someone to lie about a case to accuse NYPD of racism despite having zero evidence and when proven to be wrong he went quiet instead of admitting he screwed up... While quietly keeping all the money people donated to him during that time I should add. He is the definition of a grifter.
@@dfmrcv862 I watched the Netflix documentary "Trail by Media". Which to be fair is not a great source of information. I know for a fact he shot one of them in the back and he didn;t have a permit for his gun.
Maybe she knew they'd say something to her... maybe there were no other seats.. but she should not have to watch where she sits... she should not have to psychoanalyze if someone will hurt her or not.
Yup, both sides are just nasty
I mean. Even in this conservative show they don’t look kindly on people doing crimes against criminals just because they deserve it. It’s not both sides nasty. It’s the main characters against the suspect/plot
Nah @@yucol5661 you know what I mean.
@@yucol5661 yeah, Craegen had a line in season 1 about it not being about the victim but about the crime. Greavey wanted to bet let off a case because he didn't like the victim.
Is this the one with Cynthia Nixon, if so this is a good episode.
Yes she played Laura Di Biasi

This is only a question but is the right to self-defense going to be removed from the Constitution? Am I going to have to let somebody do harm to me and not hit them back? Are you going to hit me and I'm not allowed to hit you back or I'll be arrested for hitting you back making you think twice about hitting me again? This goes for anyone.
Richard Brooks Paul
i dont go by racial bias i go by probability bias
Then you should be afraid of all men. Specially young men. They do almost all the violent crime by themselves.
See, it stops making sense when YOU are included in the “probability”
It’s “probable” that you’ll be raped by a man.
No offense in the video around 2 minutes and 10 seconds into the video the nurse makes a racist act about being afraid of the teenagers and that that's not okay seriously I mean come on that's my only complain about this video.
It's commentary. You aren't supposed to side with or like the nurse. Having racism in a show or showing that it exists isn't a problem. What would be a problem is if we pretended it didn't exist to make everyone feel more comfortable rather than talk about real issues. Racist people exist, why should we ignore that?
she then asks the law abiding black guy if he is afraid of them too. the only racism i see is at 3:16
@@morrigen3 dude, the way the conversation was going, Robinette was implying she wouldn’t be afraid if it was a bunch of white teenagers, and she didn’t deny it
