- Repair or replace a panel, lower valance for a 1969 Firebird that has more damage then just a few dents. Should you replace it or find a way to fix it.

Making magic happen one video at a time. That was a good idea and fantastic execution.
I was trying to
Find a few small tasks to accomplish while waiting to get the car blasted, it seemed to work out well
It's never "junk" when you need it! Excellent work, and it cost nothing but time.
Very true, I sometimes think I keep to many parts but in this case victory.
Can't tell you how many times I've regretted getting rid of parts I use to have. Now I keep everything better to have then not have.
It’s tuff to say what to keep and what to scrap. I don’t want to become a hoarder but you never know
I'd love to see more content like this! Really enjoyed watching your process.
Awesome, thank you! I have plenty of little repairs on sheet metal yet to do
You are an amazing craftsman, can’t wait to see the finished product.
Me too. This will make for a very nice car and I am also excited about the next few cars in line too
Excellent job on that panel John!! Keep up the fantastic work!!👍🏽
Thanks, will do!
Nice repair. We are replacing a lot of panels on our ‘67, but keeping all the originals for repairing at a later date to hopefully help someone who may need parts to save their Firebird. Mockingbird is looking good.👍
You just don’t know if and when they might be useful. Glad I kept this one
Good looking repair! Nice job! I can confirm it would have taken me a lot more than 35 mins 😅
Maybe so but the sense of accomplishment when done worth it
Absolutely worth it. It's amazing. How many people will throw things away and later on regret it, knowing that you could have used it to save another panel. Thank you for leaving the 69 convertible bird here with me in Pennsylvania. Because she's going to save the love bird. You are the best buddy. Great job on the repair
Absolutely! I don’t like scrapping a car
But feel much better about it when it saves other cars
You're quite the craftsman. Making it look easy, giving me confidence on my bird project.
Set goals and only focus on one area at a time so that it doesn’t become overwhelming
I seen on FB the other day a guy found an original 69 TA white / blue stripes 400 4 speed showing 31,000 miles in a shed , I believe in Iowa, granted it had seen a hard life , but it was 100 % original and complete and I immediately thought of you. LOL
I think I saw that. It had a trailer hitch on it too
Awesome work on that thing Jon!
Appreciate that brother, I see you have gotten your welder out and doing some of the same stuff
Best firebird surgeon on youtube!
Thanks that is quite the compliment
Great content. You make it look so easy.
I appreciate that!
i bought one from classic industries and it fit great surprisingly
Very cool. Good to know, l haven’t tried a repop one yet
Hi Jon, The refurbished panel looks great. As a suggestion, I would tack weld the backside of that repair. Just run tacks like you did on the front. Reason being you ground down most of the weld on the front and while it looks great it's not very strong.
Good tip!
I forgot to mentioned I learned this from Fitzee's Fabrications. He is AMAZING!! Both you guys are craftsmen.
I have a couple of Fenders that I keep debating about using. I think I will try to fix them before I buy new ones.
Worth trying to fix them, repops I have only heard horror stories on fitment. Plus money saved can go towards something else.
Thanks for the tip...good content and looking forward to seeing more....thanks
More to come!
Half hr save money well worth it
More money for other goodies
Great job!
Thank you for watching!
Never hurts to save old parts as you never know when a template is needed. In this case there was enough salvageable to restore an OEM valance. Nice work Jon.
I am glad I hauled that valance home from Pennsylvania now. Saved me a valance and time.
nice repair. I keep junk parts for this exact purpose. Never know when you will need a part of a part. lol
Very true! I was hesitant on hauling that old Valance home and now glad I did.
Very Nice!!
Thanks!
'Gooder' job!
Lol gooder indeed
Do you have a video or tips on getting the contour on a "flat" aftermarket trunk lid . Need to get the upper leading edge along the panel between the trunk and rear window to match
Yes i do, you have watched it. Basically some sockets or wooden broom handle cut down to about 9” or so and close it in the jamb to pry and bend the leading edge up. And the if it’s to high 2x4 on top and hit it with a hammer
Excellent work Jon ! I'm kinda having the same problem on my '68. Not sure if I should keep the frame rails or replace them. I have the trunk floor totally cut out including the shock towers. The rails mostly have surface rust, but are solid. Just one bad spot near the inner wheel housing. Thoughts ? Thanks 👍
If they are not bent from collision, I would probably repair just the bad section. Replacement rails have vastly improved but still have fitment issues sometimes. Not to mention 1968 reproduction frame rails need shortened before they will fit. The manufacturer labels them in the description as needs slight modification but they don’t say what. The rear section at the tail panel just behind the spring mount needs modified
Thanks Jon 👍
😊
Thanks!
💪😎

You keep talking about not being able to find a person to sandblast that car have you heard of dustless sandblasting where are you by this device that hooks onto the front of a pressure washer wand and instead of using high air pressure you use high pressure water to blast away paint and rushed. It is completely dust free but you would have to do it on your lawn so that the sand or blast media and water could just filter into the grass. It may not be practical for the entire car but four small pieces like the lower Valance it would work perfect.
I have seen those might have to buy one and do some experimenting
