    The product from this review was sent to me by Banggood for testing.
    This does not mean that I do get all my products. I review also a lot of products I bought myself.
    I started these reviews because from my experience not every tool from China was worth buying. So I wanted to make in-depth reviews to show you which products you should consider and which product you better leave alone. The fact that banggood sent me products occasionally does not change the way I make my reviews. I still give in-depth reviews and give you my honest opinion!
    On this, you can count on!
    I have a lot of woodworking tools from China. I bought them all on Banggood.com. But you can buy them probably also from sites like alibaba.com, Aliexpress.com and Ebay.com
    I have a good experience with Banggood.com and they have a lot of woodworking tools nicely organized on their site.

    Great as always. The cabinet drawer guide. Would it be possible to use it to accurately set drawer slides or shelf positions? Would it be possible to use another but longer ruler in the guide because then it becomes a story stick.

    Those pins allow you to flip the jig over and place it on top of your workpiece. This way you can use a handheld router to round over the corners on something that is too big for your router table. I just used this technique to round over the edges of a countertop. Because the jig is so much larger there is plenty of room to clamp it down and not interfere with the router base plate.

    I know that you don't like posting content on furniture making and focus more on the shop improvements, but I would love to see the process you went through making this rustic side table - it looks like a great piece, with very interesting finish, and it's something that's not easy to come by on youtube. I'm sure a lot of it depends on the piece of wood you have in your hands, but still, it would be amazing to see the techniques and approach you used, especially on surface prep and finishing. Love your content btw, your channel is in my top 3 list for shop furniture / improvements / jigs and tool reviews. You're doing a great job, hats off to you.

    Bello Dennis. I am sure I am not alone in saying “ We missed your reviews”. Nice to see you back on site. Because of your reviews I have purchased two items off your site. The drill indexing guide and the kerf maker. Both excellent products and excellent buys. Price/fit/finish/quality and usability
    I did not buy your last product review item because you yourself were not all in on this item-the bench dog clamps. However i have purchased a very high quality duplicate. Lee valley-Veritas. Wonder dog clamp. This is 100% metal. No plastic anywhere and is an excellent product. Not sure if they do any marketing over there in the Netherlands but all of their lee valley/veritas tools are good quality. You cannot go wrong. Now of course they cannot compete in price and if that is the only thing that matters then they lose out. However in every other area they are top notch. Their prices are comparAble to any other well made German. American. Canadian or European tools in general. I think they are well worth you time to check out their website. Lee valley tools. Please do not consider anything that I have said here as any negativism against the china tools you feature. I lobe the two I have and if I had a need I def would purchase the drawer guides that you featured today
    Stay healthy over there. Harleymike/chicago

    Hi Dennis! I'm fairly new to woodworking but now starting to find the need for different tools and various jigs for making things a little easier- more importantly... precise, accurate, and efficient. Unfortunately these things cost a lot of money as I'm learning woodworking in whole is quite expensive.
    I barely came across your channel yesterday and I binge watched all your China tool videos and now starting on the others Lol. I'm hooked! Definitely subscribed!👍
    You're a blessing for those in my situation (I'm sure for any woodworker - DIY'er & Professional) in the beginning stages of the craft and looking to expand our tool arsenal.
    Having a non biased honest and thorough understanding of something before buying is a tremendous help! (especially considering how expensive it all can be) I know these videos are not easy to make. They take a lot of time, effort, and energy among so much more... Especially when producing QUALITY content such as you're.
    Fantastic overall video quality. Highly enjoyable. Great design/concept, visuals, editing, animation, presentation, and delivery (your English is good and definitely improving with each video)
    I can't begin to express how much I appreciate you! 🙏 So thank you for sharing and providing your videos.
    BTW... Your little guy is absolutely adorable! Definitely should be in a commercial on television. 👌

      @HookedonWood  Před 4 lety

      Wow Eric, your comment mean a lot to me. Yes, it cost a lot of time, especially if you are a person like me who is not that easy satisfied with the results. I make it myself to hard some times. But I only can enjoy it if I improved myself evrytime a little bit. So, that is definitely not the easy way. With this attitude comes doubt if it is worth all the time and efforts. Comments like yours really help me to keep motivated. Thanks for your time you took to write this comment. Highly appreciate it. Dennis

    Thank you for another enjoyable video. I like how you walk through not just the features of these tools, but how they perform in real life. I also appreciate you pointing out the little things to watch out for, like the pins on the bottom of the router template plate coming loose. I had my eye on that template as well, and if I end up buying it, I'll probably use a thread locking product like Loctite on those pins to keep them in place. Wanted to ask if you found the alignment of those pins to be perfectly square so it registers against your workpiece securely.

    • @HookedonWood
      @HookedonWood  Před 3 lety

      Hi Walter,
      Yes the alignment is good and if feels secure. During my review the price was about 45-50 dollars. But I see them later around 35 dollars. So, if they are much more expansive than 35 dollars, perhaps you should wait till the right time.

    Hi Dennis, great video. I have the jig for locating drawer handles and have used it on a number of kitchens. It is a fantastic product. My only complaint about it is that on the pieces with only 1 screw they can come loose after drilling many holes. I have found that it is best to check that they are tight after every 2 or 3 holes. It would be better if there were 2 screws like there are holding the center piece to the ruler.
    On the corner radius jig you could put some loctite on the threads of the screws and this would glue them in place. Since they are locating pins there is no need to be able to remove them so gluing in place would be a good option I think.
    I’m looking forward to seeing the workbench video. I’ll be building one for myself soon, so I think I will wait until then to get some ideas.

    I do like some of these products. In my case, however, I found the cabinet handle drill guide to have a flaw I have yet to fix.
    I found that there is an issue with the stainless steel ruler not being square to the vertical piece. So what happens is that if you attach the top stop piece and hook it onto say a piece of wood and draw a line along the stainless ruler I found the line to not be parallel with the top reference edge. In fact if you take a simple small accurate machinist square you will find the stainless steel ruler is not square with the vertical piece it slides into. Of course this will greatly affect the location of the holes in a drawer front especially if they are far apart...such as 7-8 inches. There can be as much as a 16th of an inch different which is still somewhat noticeable if you have horizontal references on a drawer front. Is this common or did I just get a lemon??

    Dag Dennis,
    Ik ben erg blij met de tekeningen van de werkbank die je op je site hebt gezet.
    Ik wacht met spanning op je bouwvideo, maar begin ondertussen vast aan het onderstel.
    Wat je reviews van (Banggood) China tools betreft, ik ben er blij mee. Een aantal artikelen heb ik inmiddels gekocht/ in huis.
    Van deze review heb ik, via je link, het hulpgereedschap voor de handgrepen besteld.
    De losse radiussen die je ook aanstipt had ik al n.a.v. een eerdere review (tools nr. 8) besteld. Daar houd ik het voorlopig maar bij.
    Ik moet bekennen dat ik eerst wat huiverig tegenover het kopen in China aankeek, maar ik begrijp nu waarom je er zo enthousiast over bent.
    De levertijden zijn lang, veel langer dan ik gewend ben, maar de kwaliteit van de spullen en de klantenservice zijn erg goed.
    Een artikel dat tijdens de verzending uit de verpakking is verdwenen werd zonder veel problemen vergoed.
    Het zelfde geld voor een artikel waarvan na aankoop bleek dat die niet geleverd kon worden.

      Hoi Rob,
      Leuk om je reactie te lezen. Fijn dat Banggood dit netjes heeft opgelost. Ik moet zeggen dat ik dezelfde ervaring heb. Maar ik heb ook wel eens reacties gelezen dat het wat lastiger gaat. Dus voor de nuancering vind ik het fijn dat jij dezelfde ervaring heb als ik.
      Groeten,

    Mooie video weer!
    Ben zeer benieuwd naar de bouw van je werkbank.
    Mag ik vragen waarom je de nieuwe kolomboor hebt? Was namelijk net van plan zo'n bosch aan te schaffen.

      @HookedonWood  Před 4 lety

      Hoi Sjoerd,
      Op zich is de Bosch best een aardige kolomboor machine hoor. In sommige opzichten is hij zelfs erg fijn. Klem systeem is top, hoogte verstelling erg fijn en er zit een digitale diepte meter in wat ook erg handig is. Toeren zijn met een draaiknop te regelen i.p.v. riemen verwisselen. Ik vond het hem zelfs best wel sterk. Hij heeft een mooi koppel wat dat betreft. Het enige wat ik er op aan kan merken is dat hij niet zo stabiel en stevig is als een "echte" Pillar Dill. Dat maakt hem iets minder nauwkeurig.
      Het is een erg praktische machine die voor de hobbyist erg leuk is (nu ben ik ook een hobbyist, maar ik wilde graag naar een iets nauwkeurige)
      Die heb ik met de Jet zeker. Je merk dat ook direct als je hem gebruik, wat niet wil zeggen dat het eind resultaat nu dramatisch verschilt.
      De Bosch is te koop :-) (2 jaar oud, niet veel gebruikt)
      Groeten Dennis

    Thank you very much for taking your time to review these products in real-use situations. It teaches me what to look for in general and how woodworking could / should be done. So, even if I'm not interested in purchasing any products, I still find these videos very helpful. Most other youtube resources out there focus on the big power tools. These hand tools is where the measuring is done and greatly impacts the end result. On a side note: I made typo while entering your website into the address bar: hookeronwood.online . Couldn't help but laugh ;)

      Hoi Hans, Ik heb uiteindelijk gekozen voor de Jet JDP-15. Deze is ook als staand model leverbaar en dan heeft hij de naam JDP17.
      Tot nu toe tevreden. Eerste indrukken. Erg zwaar. Best wel groot bereik. Snelheid moet je aanpassen met riemen en dat was ik niet gewend. Dit is te doen maar praktisch vind ik het niet. Verder loopt hij erg stil en soepel. Dat vind ik een hele fijne eigenschap. Hij is zeer stabiel en er zit op het eerste gezicht geen speling of slag op de "chuck" Hij heeft geen digitale diepte meter en dat vind ik wel jammer. De wijze waarop je de stop in kan stellen is echter wel makkelijk. Ik heb alleen nog niet kunnen testen of dit ook echt accuraat is. Hij heeft een groot platform, maar ik wil hier nog wel iets anders voor maken. Ik heb hem in een aanbieding gekocht in Duitsland voor 580,- excl btw en verzendkosten en dat vind ik een onwijs mooie prijs voor zo'n degelijke machine. Dit zat al wel een beetje aan de bovengrens van wat ik uit wilde geven voor zo'n machine. Wellicht dat ik in de toekomst er een keer een review over doe. Succes met de overwegingen. Groeten, Dennis

    Love your reviews! I am thinking of making dog holes in a workbench top. Do you think: 1) I can achieve a good degree of accuracy for placing the dog holes using the cabinet drill guide template as opposed to buying the expensive Parf guide system? And 2) I like to combine it with the Microjig clamping system routed tracks, and I don't have Festool track saw/tools ; therefore ,should I use 96 mm spacing still or 4 inch dog hole spacing and 20 mm vs 3/4 inch dog holes ( don't know if your recommended dog hole clamp would work in either size hole?). Thank you.

    • @HookedonWood
      @HookedonWood  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Rashid, 1: I do not think it gives the accuracy as the parf guide system. And if not perfect, you can not use it for that. That said. 80% of the time I do not use the accuracy of this table. With two dogholes you always get a straight line. I found the horizontal and vertical alignment very nice and useful. But you can life without.
      2. I can not understand your second question. I can not tell you if the rail guide clamps can be use in dogholes smaller than 20mm. I think it will be critical.

    Hi Dennis, thanks so much for these videos. China is taking the same road as Taiwan did 20+ years ago: back then everything was made there (as it is in China today) and 99% of it was junk. But slowly but surely quality improved up to the point where you can now blindly trust Taiwanese quality to be outstanding. Needless to say, China also makes a lot of garbage nowadays, but quality manufacturers are starting to appear and thanks to your awesome series we can now separate the junk from the stuff that is worthwhile having. Your contribution to this is invaluable.
    So I ordered this Radius Router Jig but it unfortunately arrived with lacking packaging (so much for the benefit of the doubt…) that caused the round edged insert to become damaged from banging around against the plate’s lock screws. You can see the original packaging as well as the damaged it caused here: czcams.com/video/AdB-j0ACFMk/video.html
    Quite disappointing to see such a nice tool be damaged because they weren’t bothered to develop a decent box for it. I guess I’ll be sticking to Hondui and Veiko, as those 2 brands seem to be the only ones with top-to-bottom quality control and Banggood's customer service has been a total waste of time so far…

  • @HondoTrailside
    @HondoTrailside Před 4 lety

    Personally, I am not really impressed with either of these tools.
    1) The first one appears to be a marking or drilling tool, but does not actually do either. The drill inserts seem too short to be useful. You have found a favourable use for it by using a marking tool where the drills should be aligned and then drilling freehand. It is like giving a table saw a 5 star rating if you were able to use the fence and blade to score a mark on your workpiece that you later sawed out with a handsaw, because the tablesaw blade would not turn.
    These chinese tools are very pretty, and have things about them that are done well, like the scales. But I don't think the fact they are "nicely made" should get them a pass, on poor design. It is not clear what this thing really is for. I have a similar tool by LV, and while it is extremely expensive, it does something important (32 mm) system, and it does it very well. I really should not have bought it at the price, as I don't use it enough, But pretty tools that are very poor on function and purpose, are even a worse value.
    ---------------------------------------------------------
    2) This tool looks OK, but I also bought a pair of those tools you used reviewed back in episode 2, except the supplier I bought from only sent me one of the promised tools. Still not a bad tool. After a lifetime of picking up bottle caps to mark radiuses, I really looked forward to doing the same with these, and I can also use the router with them. I have no complaints.
    The tool you reviewed in this episode has some advantages, it is larger and provides a nice hand hold, but that will simply make it harder to use on small pieces. It is a trade-off where I prefer smaller for storage, one piece, cheaper, and less sleazy looking. I can never see myself using the 45 degree angle, but for those who can, then there is some price advantage.
    One can solve a bunch of problems by using a saw to rough the corner, and then only using the router to trim to the template. This will save time, noise, dust, and make holding easier.
    I do not think the smaller templates are unsafe, for one thing you show a far safer way of using them with a clamp, and hand held router. Router tables are generally more dangerous as you can more easily apply your finger to a router bit in a table, than a router your hand is holding. Or you can rig an overhead guard on your router table, that will still provide access to the router, but make it extremely unlikely one will get cut on the table.
    Your ratings make sense, I can just see a lot of ways to be satisfied with any of these products.
    --------------------------------------------------
    But there is more. While I was waiting for my red rounder to arrive, I got a 3D printer. One can 3D print these templates for pennies, and they seem perfectly sturdy enough for heavy shop use. Sizes range from 2" down on Thigievers, lots of different free builds. You can do metric or imperial, and you can also shrink or expand any of these designs, with a few keystrokes, so you actually have infinite radii. There are also templates for people who just want to pencil mark corners.
    The 3D printed tool range is vast. And you don't have to wait for them to arrive from China. I do love nicely finished metal, but these are also very cool.

      I have to say, in a wierd way, I like your comments. :-).
      You trigger me, that will not say, that I agree with you on every point. And of course, that is OK.
      I am not agree with you on point one. There are more products for specific use. And of course, when that is the case, you have to decide for your self if you use it enough to justify purchase.
      What I like about some products from China with a good price/quality ratio is that they mostly affordable to justify this purchase earlier. And having something for this, works better then having nothing for this purpose.
      So, I agree with you that these guides are not designed to keep your drill bit steady. But that is not necessary. If you have to put handles on multiple drawers, this tool saves you a lot of time.
      And I am shure that even you will be impressed by the quality of this first tool ;-0
      2. I agree with you on the 45 degree angle. You have to remove to much for the router. So I would roughly cut it of, and then put it thru the router. Because, what you do get is a very consistent line.
      I also said that I do not have a problem with the smaller templates, but it is so much relax to work with the other. And you can also can use it for smaller peaces of wood. Because if you use only the first pin at both sides it already works. So, I think we are pretty much thinking the same way.
      Anyway, Thanks for your comment!
      Dennis

    These products obviously come from Banggood. My experience with Banggood is horrible. Nearly 50% of the orders never arrived. The customer service is incredible bad and unprofessional. You have to make your inquiries several times, the promised refund does not arrive. So you contact them again- and you have to go through the inquiry process again. These problems began before the crisis hit China, so that’s no excuse.

      Hi Mortiz,
      Sorry to read your comment. Luckily I do not have these experiences. I heard more viewers complain about the customer service. That is a shame. I believe it is not on a level that we are used to. I am convinced that they sent out a product, so if 50% get lost during transport is much. Thanks for sharing your experience.
