Mages are op by design, i knew frost was the premium caster of df before they got buffed by 20%. You can nerf their damage by 50% and theyll still be the 1 caster standing in melee getting ignored because 4 spell schools has no counterplay

The cd reduction design is from diablp and is where wow is headed 1 class at a time but some classes havent had a designer in 5+ years and casters need some unique anti melee if melee get 100% fighter jet uptime

They are the best caster to kite what are you talking about?
mage is probably the tankiest caster if you use your utility/defensives right. You just aint doing it correctly. Use blinks when melee use gap closers, blast wave/nova when you don't , use alter when healer is in cc, Ginvis gives you 60% damage reduction. Mirror image gives you 10. You also literally have 2 ice blocks. You are definitely doing it wrong now that I've reminded myself xD
