- In this week’s episode of MODIFIED, Matt Farah gets behind the wheel of a JDM B5 Audi RS 4 that’s received a Safari conversion courtesy of custom shop AI Design. Matt learns more about what went into this build (like a dog bed!) and, after getting some mud on the tires, concludes that a customized rally wagon can also legitimately double as a practical daily driver.

Man Hagerty really stepping up their game! LOVE Matt Farrah and LOVE that they’re also having Camissa on the channel! And all for free on CZcams!? HELL YEAH
Second that!
Yes much better than Motortrend on demand.
Love to see it! Thanks for the opportunity to film the light bar production
The goat
Got to get you behind the wheel of this soon!
Well done!
I want one for my mine B5 S4
Shoutout to the owner for letting Matt thrash his baby for posterity. You sir, are a champion and thanks for sharing!
This entire production was off the CHART! Matt Farah, B5 RS4, Safari build, quality cinematics, audio is on point, you can't beat it! Kudos to the whole team!
love that Hagerty is becoming the new "THE DRIVE"!!!
If they hired Musto it would be game over
@@MrSantihomer i can see it now: “Hagerty Lawn Care Division”!
The dog bed fit into the back is just awesome.
Doggo's like to rally too.
The music in the edit is killer. Props to the editor
It sounds like a bunch of wind-chimes with diarrhea
Somebody please post the link to this dope music starting at 10:10, please!
I would also like links to the music at 2:00
@@lonerider3441 sounds like japan ... something i hope that helps i listen to a YT channel with24/7 music like that look fer a girl and a cat in video `s animation she is studying at desk with cat
I Shazamed it. It is Relaxed Fit by SKYGAZE
Why are these all so short? There’s so much more to these builds. I promise some of us have the attention spans to actually watch this. Such a missed opportunity.
The algorithm likes videos that are around 10 minutes long. Sadly, that's the average attention span for most CZcams viewers.
Okay this series is terrific and unpredictable. I love it. Thanks Hagerty!
Safari builds makes infinitely more sense than stanced. At first I was thinking why do this to a rare RS4, but explanation and video cleared it up.
I had a B7 A4 2.0T manual lowered with basically RS4 suspension for about a decade before it was totaled by someone who hit me running a red light. Took it through a blizzard over the Colorado Spanish Peaks in December, got down muddy roads better than lifted trucks, whipped it down gravel roads in the middle of absolutely nowhere, loaded it with everything I owned and drove 1/2 way across the country multiple times and she took it all with ease. Those center torsen diffs are amazing and the mechanical quattro cars are the best AWD cars ever made. 2.5 inches of ground clearance and in 18" of snow it was a tank. Took her places people don't take 4runners. Point being 90s-00's Audi was absolute PEAK AWD.
Safari/Rally Builds are more appealing to me living in Canada. Whens it dry, wet, snowy, or anything combined, you can still have fun.
Old Audis never die!
Love to see Matt Farah on this channel! He really knows his stuff and can articulate his ideas well even when driving fast.
Lmao that look at 8:39 killed me
Matt was not giving space for the man to talk!
Bro I was looking for this before I said it myself lol
I've seen images of this car online and hated on it due the "ruining" an RS4, a dream car of mine. I opened this video immediately wanting to hate (not on Matt or Hagerty) but on the mods. Long story short, I get it and dropped a thumbs up. I love off roading and hooning just as much as having fun on a dry track. Personally, I'd choose to keep my eventual B5 RS4 stock (or mostly stock) but I now have an appreciation for this one too. Long live the B5!
Awesome video! Love the Hagerty posts lately!
Glad you came around to the build.
at least it's still usable vs. the stance nation form lol
@@papa_pt 100%. Stance nation is far far worse IMO.
Listening to him describe the driving dynamics, wow. I don't know of anyone else who can paint a picture as good as Matt.
This is just great! Most of the intersting car shows on youtube have gone behind a paywall or just lost touch with the viewer. This series however, has given me something new, interesting and well produced to watch. And you can't really go wrong with Matt behind the wheel, his passion for cars and his excitement while driving them is really genuine and that shows in the way he describes both the cars he drives, how they perform, and how they make you feel.
Hands down the best Automotive series on YT right now. Keep it up lads!
Shoutout to our man William Barber, this is a great cut
Was on the fence about Hagerty videos until I saw Matt Farrah
Amazing transformation from what it was before. Loved my dad's Imola yellow B5, and always wanted something like an RS version of an Allroad. This seems like a very fun package!
I have a 2001 b5 s4 and man am i glad you guys made a video on one!! I love mine so much
That dog bed is such a good idea
Awesome film! Really enjoyed it. The music selection was so on point!
Huge fan of this show, please keep it going.
This needs more views. Great content, great production quality!
Brilliant execution all around, big thumbs-up!!
Awesome car all in all. And I love that you get the professional driver tag
I love this new segment and love the direction Hagerty is moving in. Can't wait to see what's to come.
Good to be back. Thanks Matt and JF! I missed this!
I came here after watching the detailing video on the other channel. AI design is amazing
While not in the same league as this RS, I built my 18 year old Forester in the same vain. Safari cars are the best all-rounders. Thanks Matt, for giving this concept the attention it deserves.
This might be the best episode of modfied as of yet... It made want a safari car so bad!
A cooler Audi Allroad, nice 👍
There are a couple young turks ripping around our local area here in Germany with the latest, greatest fully equipped RS4's -- and I'd take this over either of them in less than a heartbeat. Particularly enjoyed the camera operator isolating the "No Photography" sign as we entered the AI workshop...
Normally I'm against modifying a car.
But when it's done as professionally like here it's great!
Beautiful car and good video!
I have an A4 Avant Quattro, B4. I put tires 2 sizes bigger and got serious lift. Added 2cm+ pucks and can handle almost a foot of snow before it can't push the berm or hugh centers. Beast on forestry roads.
Enjoyed that, thank you and well done!
what a car, honestly something like this is a dream and I am happy to see that someone has the same dream
I think this build on this car is my favorite car on the planet. God, if i had the money... There's an LFA in the garage but im still focused on the rs4 lol. I love the audi logo on the roof cargo box. The color is perfect. Just amazing.
Damn the editing and production in these vids are just so GOOD
I imagine this car putting on a hell of a show in off-road scenes in an action movie.
These are the best auto vids on yt, which means in the world
Love the synthwave soundtrack!
Love the new show.
Great job,Great covering,Hagerty and Matt. Very cool company 'AI Design'
A Volvo XC70 is also a great car for this sort of thing, many people are modifying theirs in Overlander or Safari style, it's super cool!
Or you can just buy the subaru crosstrek. It's basically a lifted Impreza. No need to modify and factory warranty is intact.
@@ilovelimpfriesNo need to search in other brands when Audi Allroad is what probably inspired this build.
Amazing content! Another new subscriber 👍
Very cool! Great video as well!
So glad to see this format making a comeback!
matt you should build yourself a amc eagle since you love safari cars you know give the og the love it deserves
Volvo v70r Safari is my next project. I love the idea of using the stock shocks and springs.
This is exactly the way of tailoring where professional knowledge and decent creativity gets in sweet balance producing machine for daily driving never letting you doubting about upgrade decisions and every driven mile is time of satisfaction. I have been thinking bout making such Safari RS6 Avant based on year production with Lambo V10. Keeping the engine output in stock but rework performance mapping in benefit of torque + tune gearbox, improve air intake and cooling, upgrade whole chassis with HD airbags resisting on rally surfaces, cover whole belly with aluminum sheets etc…
Keep these coming
Watching Matt Farah climb into the back of this, and close himself in was not at all what I expected to see in this video.
Yeah, that was very Cammisa of him.
Awesome ! What a machine !
This is amazing
Wasnt expecting much here but Matt really laid out a great argument in favor of this car. I get it and I like it... Alot!
I need the track listing on this video because the tracks used are 🔥. Oh, and the video is excellent too.
Fabulous video! But it has to be more appreciated, the effort for the mount of the headlights is insane!
3d-scanned, -designed, -printed plastic and than CNC out of a solid block of aluminium! this is super impressive!
nice, now I want one.
Omg that is amazing and what I’m looking for
Wow fun to watch
This is fantastic 😘👌
The B5 RS4 was also sold in Australia. I wanted one new, and I still want one now.
Was wondering what radio they used ? Looks like a pioneer
like seeing these conversions get more popular. we "safaried" our toyota sieanna awd for better trailhead access and it would go anywhere. Lot of photos parked in lots with jeeps and 4x4's...
I love it!
This series rules!
Matt Is such a great host awesome choice guys !
10:32 Matt, as I remember, Walter Rohrl, Hans Stuck and Michele Mouton used this method to successful use in the group b audi s1 e2 audi quattro
So cool! 😃😃
First time seeing the channel. Excellent content and custom work.. That RS4 just needs a couple k04s
The RS4 came stock with K04’s
Soo nice!
Love B5 Audi
It's perfect!
The best RS4 generation by far! Peak Audi as well.
I don't know man...... modern Audi with that 07k is pretty special........
10:00 "Matt wants to be a Doberman"
Me too buddy, me too
I like it!
So much awesome.
Nice video,
This guy is so much more interesting when he's not trying to sell his goods to us, and when we can see his eyes instead of those horrendous sunglasses.
Dream car ❤️
Love it
That seats are original, but they are a rare factory option, they are the high tech tissue Recaros!
I have ones on my daily and other set for sale!
As a stance kid living in Massachusetts, lemme just say the roads here are so bad it’s not even worth joking about. It’s just sad.
The builder of this car definitely has the right idea.
The Delta at AI, last MOT’d in the UK January 2020, interesting to know it’s history and what it’s doing there. Return trip for Matt?
Never making them like that no more. As a B7 RS owner I'm proud of this Safari Audi
That is exactly what I'd love to do to my B5.5 Passat, unfortunately not a wagon though 😔
If I had too much money I'd do something similar to my Golf Alltrack but with the TT RS/RS3 5-cylinder because Golf platform...
Very cool. Looks like it would benefit from a 40:60 center diff.
Much more so from a rear limited slip instead
Been sold on wagons since high school, and I'm 51! Getting ready to send my son off to college in a wagon of all things, which he loves! Biggest perk: They appear to be invisible to radar lol.
I wonder how a 2001 Audi All Road would turn out? While being a little bigger than the A4 platform your starting out with more off road equipment. Seems like it could be fun with the 6-speed and a K04 turbo upgrade. You can pick them up very reasonably these days. I live currently in the mountains of East Tennessee. There’s plenty of back road and off road trails to explore with one.
B5 Avant best Audi design ever.
All those lights blocking the grills dont cause cooling problems?
And nose heavy weight problems
It still has all of the lower grille, it's probably enough in the northeast, the owner isn't Baja rallying it.
The lightbar and spots will be balanced out by the dog and its bed.
I know this is a old video, but I would love more info on the build as far as suspension goes and what size wheel and tires are on this. Looking at doing this to a 04 A4 Avant 3.0 6spd manual. Sits way to low and currently waiting on stock struts and springs. Been looking at a spacer lift as well. The goal is to try and get some 225/60/17 or 225/65/17 under it.
Love safari builds and wagons. But I didn’t feel the x-factor on this. Yes - there some great details on it, but the bits and pieces didn’t add up for me. Perhaps this is one of those builds that I need more time to digest.
Haggerty please come to Australia
Safari 935 😭😭❤️🔥🔥
Great to see Matt not trashing the B5 platform for once lol
