  • Let's take a look at some hatch settings in EzCad that can help us reach target engraved depths with a fiber laser. This file was created and tested on copper and stainless with a Chinese 20w fiber laser with a 150x150 lens.
    The EzCad file used in this video is available here:

    Thanks for the info, this is exactly what I was looking for. Im a firearms manufacturer and you are right, minimum .003 deep and a letter height of 1/16. Thanks again!

      So do you think this model laser will work for marking such items? Or did you end up going with a different laser? I’m currently looking for a laser to made business cards with small font

    Hi, Thank you for this helpful video, I have a 50w fiber laser, but I face a difficult to engrave silver 925, so what is the suitable parameters to engrave silver?

    I have a need to cut small, somewhat complicated shapes out of .008" stainless steel and these galvo style engravers seem like the most cost effective way to achieve that. I am looking at 50watt units however I am hesitant to pull the trigger because i understand these are not intended for cutting. My question is, is this a bad idea? My only requirement would be clean edges on the cut and preferably no discoloration. Thanks for the videos, they have been a big help so far!

      @jm-ls8ki Před 4 lety

      They're not intended for cutting, but that really applies to material with actual thickness. I have cut regular aluminum foil with my 20w and it was quick and easy. I'd guess it was .003" thick or maybe a bit less.

      @DOKTOR1R Před 4 lety

      You can cut with 20W fiber laser without any problem! I use sisma easy 300F (30W) for cutting brass, stainless steel, silver, gold 0.1mm-1mm thicknesses with, or not polished surfaces.It’s up to your settings and the material! Like Tesla says: think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.:) +more passes, more depht, more time!

    Whats the deepest you've been able to get in steel? Im on the fence with investing in a fiber laser vs. continuing to engrave on my CNC mill. Im looking for a fairly deep depth - almost 'topographical in stainless/alloy steel and want the precision of a laser and to free up the CNC for 'real' jobs, but not sure if a 20 to 50w fiber laser will cut it... Thanks in advance. Watched all your vids and VERY helpful stuff for the community. '

      @jefferyj  Před 4 lety +4

      I used to engrave on my small mill also, but it wasted a lot of time and minor depth variations were fairly noticeable. That said, my laser is a 20w system so it's not very efficient at hitting significant depth. A few thousandths is no problem, but if you need more than about 10 thousandths regularly (especially over a large area), you'd probably be better off going with a 30 with a small lens or a 50w.

      @@jefferyj stellar feedback. Really appreciate that. I think a 50watter is in my future and hopefully it works out! If not, I know who to donate it to.

    Love the videos.. thank you. but I have a design and need to do a deep engraving? I try to follow your settings but my design creates a black carbon layer. but when i sand it with a 1000 grain, seems that the design is done very light on a brass surface. Do i need to always adjust the height of the head every time? or you think the settings are not saved when i apply the changes?

      If you want avoid carbon color do second marking at low power.

    Hi I need to engrave serial text-numbers into weapons parts with a 30w laser using EzCad. I am new to this and is looking for some advice. Its almost always hardened steel and it needs to be a little deep perhaps compared to using a letter stamp set with a hammer. It cant be just like an image since it would be easily sanded off. It needs a little depth and to take a little time to sand it off. I was looking for some settings advice? Hopefully you have a setting you could send me? I wouldnt mind it looking nice but when I engrave with slow speed and high power the end result seems to be not so nice. So low frequency, high power, slow speed and few loops compared to say high speed but lots of loops?

    • @jefferyj
      @jefferyj  Před 4 lety

      If you're using very slow speed with high power and a minimal number of passes, don't be afraid to speed up a bit and use a few extra passes. This might improve your end result. If you want a nicer finish, add in a cleanup pass after each depth pass with a bit lower power and higher frequency between (or only as your last pass).

    hi man, saw all your video, learned a lot from you, I cant or I dont know one thing on laser engraver, how can I engrave text field in square and engrave everything insted text, like engrave only space all around text, pls do me a favor a do video about that or give me an advice about it, thx man

    • @jefferyj
      @jefferyj  Před 4 lety +1

      Just draw a box or circle around your text. Now you should have two objects. You may need to select both the text and the box and do a 'combine' (edit, combine). Now select the combined object and hatch it. Your text should be untouched and you will only be hatching the surrounding field.

    Can you please share your seller info so I can be sure to buy from the same seller if I were to go the ebay route instead of XTLaser or Wisely. I am in the group you suggested and would like to message you to pick your brain a little if possible ;) Keep up the great vids!

      It was a seller on ebay called technologyetrade or something along those lines. His store includes a bunch of odds and ends from China so I don't believe it was anything special and this model is not still available there.
