    This is the most informative video I've found about baroque oboe reeds even today. Thank you.

    Thanks for writing. Of course I know where the quote comes from, that it's second hand, etc. the point of these videos is not to disseminate scholarship but to help people sound better on a two key oboe.

    Thanks for the great video. Very informative. I build baroque oboes and it's great to see the different techniques of other players.

    HELLO Gonzalo, Thank you for your response. I do Comuqnue from about thirty-five sound research and the baroque oboe; I try as much as possible to spread it, but if I cite a bibliographic source, I try to always do it, I think the best thing, even for the work that others before me have done perhaps with great difficulty., I think you will agree with me.
    Aside from that, I'm happy and admired for your work diffusuone baroque oboe, for your immense skill and ease in playing it. God has given you a great talent that you know to exploit very well. Keep it up, you're the best and I admire you very much.

    Hello dear collegue!
    You talk around the reed and Matthew Bissoli, but do not consider that the research that you present in two words, the various notes that the reed can produce, I made it again in 1990 in the magazine "Aulos".
    It is also not Bissoli theorized to have this thing about making a good octave to consider a reed, but he was the Conte Giordano Riccati that held a correspondence with the master of the Chapel Father Antonio Vallotti. Vallotti did then do the experiment in Bissoli.
    This is because things are totally revealed and perhaps should be mentioned as well even those who have discovered this thing.
    In any case, your lessons are good and you play beautifully. Bravo.
    Sorry for my english very poor.

    Hello Mr Ruiz. Really love your recordings over the years. I find a lot of my reeds struggle to get pass Bb to reach the rest of the Eb scale you described. Would you prescribe a narrower shape in this case?

      Thanks for writing. Not knowing what instrument you play or the length of the tubes you make your Reeds on I can’t give you an exact answer . What’s really important to me is that the Reed has a range of something close to an octave. Just what the top and bottom marks are depends on the instrument. On my low pitch French baroque oboe the whole thing is significantly lower. And the most important thing for me to play the difficult long pieces is that I’m playing lower than the middle of the reed’s range. So I try to stay on a G on reeds that go between E flat and E flat and crow Bb. Your exact formula might be different but I really believe in playing lower than the middle of the reed

    What's the difference between the baroque oboe and modern oboe? If I'd like to lean to play an oboe, which should I buy? baroque or modern? I like baroque but just because its appearance, what do you recommend?

      l ancêtre du hautbois s appelait la chalemie il avait une seule clé .ensuite il a évalué pour devenir le hautbois baroque ou il contient deux clés . le hautbois moderne qui a été fait au 19 siècle puis améliorer . il contient de nombreuses clés . si vous voulez apprendre le hautbois qui soit moderne ou baroque vous seule devrez choisir . allez voir sur le net pour connaitre mieux son histoire .

    I don't quite understand this. The note you played at ca. 1:23 is clearly a D natural. Is the baroque oboe a transposing instrument?

    • @gxruiz1
      @gxruiz1  Před 4 lety +1

      Weihan Xingqi these days most are at A415, as are all historical baroque instruments. Sometimes we play French music at 392 or Italian at 440 but with different oboes obv. Mostly though, it’s a 415 world

    The reed seems quite "short". Other baroque oboist use crooklets and fix the staple of the reed. You recommend this type of staple?

    • @gxruiz1
      @gxruiz1  Před 5 lety +2

      Multi piece staples are a modern invention that a lot of people find convenient because then you can build reeds on modern d'amore tubes which are cheap and available. I don't use them, but am not opposed on principle

      @@gxruiz1 Thank you for the answer. (Sorry, I didn't notice for a while). This problem is clearer now. Now I'm wondering if using the long scrape is the right way, because I found a D'amore-reed with a right response.
