La Conosco (Pergolesi/Richard Rogers mashup)
This is a verse from La Serva Padrona by Pargolesi (1730something?) that I thought sounded like an old piano bar classic so I set it to the changes of My Romance (Rogers/Hart). Just trying it out in my hote room in Germany

    Hi. In my opinion this is the messiest and riskiest way of oiling an oboe. Imagine the paper is severely stuck in the narrow upper bore, besides scratching the bore with that sti. Wouldn't be easier to follow Garnier's advise in his method and use a simple pheasant feather instead?

    Hello Mr Ruiz. Really love your recordings over the years. I find a lot of my reeds struggle to get pass Bb to reach the rest of the Eb scale you described. Would you prescribe a narrower shape in this case?

      Thanks for writing. Not knowing what instrument you play or the length of the tubes you make your Reeds on I can’t give you an exact answer . What’s really important to me is that the Reed has a range of something close to an octave. Just what the top and bottom marks are depends on the instrument. On my low pitch French baroque oboe the whole thing is significantly lower. And the most important thing for me to play the difficult long pieces is that I’m playing lower than the middle of the reed’s range. So I try to stay on a G on reeds that go between E flat and E flat and crow Bb. Your exact formula might be different but I really believe in playing lower than the middle of the reed

      Weihan Xingqi these days most are at A415, as are all historical baroque instruments. Sometimes we play French music at 392 or Italian at 440 but with different oboes obv. Mostly though, it’s a 415 world

    In the seventies they were choppy? So they forgot what was taught in the sixteen seventies: “to make playing more pleasant, and to avoid too much uniformity in tonguing, articulation is varied in several ways. For example, two maint tongue strokes are used: “tu” and “ru” (or “te” and “re” for high notes...). That’s the same as we lute players using “thumb under” technique where alternating index and thumb runs produce this variation spaced, positioned and dosed as player pleases. As opposed to the modern “classical guitar” or “baroque lute” approaching the string perpendicularly with alternating index and middle finger which both sound exactly the same...

  • @RosssRoyce
    @RosssRoyce Před 4 lety

    We rather speak like: “maneis gosak, naplethe óbo” , these are not just “syllables”, it is phonetic words composed b media syllables but transcending the boundaries of normal words.

  • @RosssRoyce
    @RosssRoyce Před 4 lety

    What is this stupid concept you are repeating that many think that “it’s the tongue that make the high pitch notes”. People would rather state that it’s shift of lips’ pressure that helps higher pitch (appart from the “wind” velocity.

    • @gxruiz1
      @gxruiz1 Před 4 lety

      The tongue plays no role whatsoever in whether you get octave 1 or 2 between E and A. If you disagree there’s probably not many people who would pay to hear you, and fewer that would do it a second time.

    • @RosssRoyce
      @RosssRoyce Před 4 lety

      @@gxruiz1 Just what I was saying: the tongue plays no role, and moreover, I've never heard anyone claiming it does, to repeat and paraphrase again what I said: if anything, people (and rightfully so) would claim that the lips (along with air velocity) play role in producing higher notes, not "tongue". And what is this "paying to hear you" snobbery? Is "payment" a sensitive theme for you, or is it "hearing" such? Like lolol do you know me, my aspirations, desires? From a technical discussion you slip into personal, this hides a dormant (or awake) bitterness into you, deal with it, get rid of these shitty, stinking social order and its "popularity contest" shit mentality, like this you will project a better feeling when you play, or whatever your art is, whatever your passion is, this is how I feel it! Communicate, react to positive comments too, not only to ones that question you views. Money is an issue to you, but don't let it eat your heart, they are from two different realms. One connects, the other only means, if turned into master it divides, so, fuck this "how many pay" lol. To make things worse, people do pay for my art but who cares, that's irrelevant. People pay for Yanni (or whatever his name was, this new age turd), by the millions, or to this bullshit Fiddler digest guy, but it's complete crap). If you do your thing with genuine passion some weird, abstract feature of infinity acknowledges it and sends ripple through all beings, beyond walls, even if your shit is completely "niche" domain, not mass pop shit. I don't tell you one should stop being pragmatic or strategic about money, but as a "paragon" for fulfillment: NO! Anyways, oboe is extremely docile and grateful instrument, it is ridiculous to make it sound complex and inaccessible, go play cornetto for inaccessible lol.

    This metaphor with the wind being the bow doesn't work because stronger pressure or speed on the bow produce higher velocity notes, while stronger wind on those oboes produces also higher pitch. I guess the oboe player compensates and corrects this with the lips?

    • @gxruiz1
      @gxruiz1 Před 5 lety

      Multi piece staples are a modern invention that a lot of people find convenient because then you can build reeds on modern d'amore tubes which are cheap and available. I don't use them, but am not opposed on principle

    I really like your sound. I was wondering if you might be able to give me some details on your reed and where I might be able to buy one close to it. I have made a couple baroque oboes of my own and never really had reeds that worked great with them. It all started when a friend let me borrow one which had no reeds and the bore looked like someone drilled it by hand rather than on a lathe so I decided to try and make a better one which I think came out ok but still no luck with reeds. Modern reeds work with the lowest 2 or 3 notes, but struggle with about the next 5 or 6 up. I know I need to make my own reeds but haven't invested in the tools yet and not sure on where to get the right cane. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hello dear collegue! You talk around the reed and Matthew Bissoli, but do not consider that the research that you present in two words, the various notes that the reed can produce, I made it again in 1990 in the magazine "Aulos". It is also not Bissoli theorized to have this thing about making a good octave to consider a reed, but he was the Conte Giordano Riccati that held a correspondence with the master of the Chapel Father Antonio Vallotti. Vallotti did then do the experiment in Bissoli. This is because things are totally revealed and perhaps should be mentioned as well even those who have discovered this thing. In any case, your lessons are good and you play beautifully. Bravo. Sorry for my english very poor.
