Im so happy to see you discover Rachelle. Honestly, I cannot believe she isn’t considered a national treasure. Like, she’s literally monumental.
I couldn't agree more. She's something else entirely.
She is completely out of this world amazing!!!
Rachelle is one of those artist in a thousand even millions that the industry does not "put out there" because she's not "putting out there" - The industry wants artist they can control and in particularly with female artist, if you aren't showing the goods and being sexual for the masses or they can't puppet them to pimp out to the masses, they don't get played or they don't get the special girl treatment. Plus she's an maturer artist so she's from the old school and will not be over-sexualized. You know you have the beyonces and the chloe X halle's and Meghan Thee Stallion and other female artist that they are whoring out. And artist like Jazmine Sullivan, who is Top tier when it comes to her artistry, they were trying to make her lose weight and become this sexual artist and to hell with her beautiful voice. You also have Ledisi who is another phenomenal artist who they over look because she's a true vocalist. Like this guy who is showing his reaction, a lot of these artist he has never heard of or ever listened to and he's amazed by what he is hearing and so unless people run across these artist on youtube or we happen to see them on a facebook feed, is the way we hear about a lot of these GREAT Artist, because the industry does not promote them...and what the industry wants it's black artist who they promote, to do is, turn black music into this cornucopia of trash and the imagery trash so that R&B music can lack it's relevance that it has always had, even with pop, country and other music genre's. We have to go looking for good R&B music now because what they are playing is pure trash, with no real meaning or grit like music of the past with the Motown sound that shaped America's R&B/Soul genre.
@@OctoberLibra1 There’s nothing else to add. You said it all and I’m in complete total agreement! ♥️🎶👊🏿👊🏾👊🏽👊🏼
Funny you brought up Ledisi who was background for Rachelle. This woman gas always been my absolute favorite forever, I own everything she's ever put out.
Every note is purposeful. Her debut album is a masterpiece!
This may be the only instance where I do an album review.
@@LesageSinging Please do!!!! Her first CD is phenomenal!
Baby!!!!
One of my all time faves 🥰
@@LesageSinging Did you ever do it? I just discovered her tonight. I’m completely enjoying your video. It’s great to have just discovered her - and then you who’s also being so enthralled !!!! She’s really something.
Rachelle Ferrell is awesome, she mentored Ledisi. And Rachelle was mentored by Phyllis Hyman. Awesome lineage of voices
Would be amazing to see his Phylis Hyman reactions 😊 I love her music so very much.
Good trivia!!!
I had no idea! I saw Phyllis at the Apollo & Rachelle at a free concert back in the day. And I absolutely love Ledisi. Other worldly voices.
OMG glad youy reacted to this SHE'S CRAZY she can do just about anything her voice is a legit instrument she can go down to G2s and then be up there doing F6 in head voice and even higher in whistle...A VOCAL BEAST
Her range is definitely awesome, but it's her musicianship that is so insane to me.
@@LesageSinging yeah i completely agree!! it's a masterclass in a performance
She’s so underrated abs I love her voice the best abs yet never fully had all the words. Whistle is right. Others try and it’s just a whisper.
Sho you right, love love love her
@@LesageSinging TOTALLY AGREE!
She went to Berklee College of Music in Boston. She also Taught Music. She's the 8th Wonder.
I love that….”The 8th Wonder” 🎯
You mean 9th cause Whitney is the 8th.
This is clearly about R.F. Comments about Whitney should be left on W.H.'s CZcams Music area. Hands down Whitney was a Great Legendary A Signature Voice. This Celebration is about R.F. @@violetsrayreikishop2
I've been a musician my entire life....she is truly a 'musician's musician'. You can transcribe her voice solos and find that she is unparalleled in her musicianship..
I've heard many, Mariah, Whitney, Barbara, but she IS the best!! Hope she NEVER stop sharing her gift with the world. I'd still pay to see her. In fact, several of my relatives love her also. She is seriously underrated.
I’ve been a big fan of Rachelle since I heard her in 1992!!! That voice!!! So amazing!!! I wore that CD OUT!!! It is my favorite because it’s the first. She is so underrated, it’s a shame.
Love rachelle...her, ledisi and lalah Hathaway together..just imagine. They've shared stages before..just crazy
My mind would explode from the awesome. We are all blessed to have these recordings of them imho.
@@LesageSinging czcams.com/video/hEhPpFnf1ps/video.html ledisi and rachelle here
Ledisi what can I say????? Omg
Yes and don't forget Rahsaan Patterson!
Rachelle and lalah have a song together
Hahahaha, you need watch at her sing With Open Arms at the Apollo Theater. You'll see lung capacity!
The idea that she could do any better does not compute in my mind.
Yes With open arms is on a whole extraterrestrial level 🤪😍
"Come on now, her humming is amazing. That's ridiculous." I actually laughed out loud when you said this. It was so perfect and accurate. Her voice consistently gives me chills.
I'm so blessed to have been in the audience years ago, when Rachelle was performing at the Blue Note in NYC ... and I can really tell you ... she feels the audience like no one else and she always amazes even the die-hard fans. You can NOT predict what she's gonna do, ever.
Rachelle Ferrell is right there with Oleta Adams in terms of “not appreciated enough” phenomenal talents, vocally and musically. Rachelle has a 6 octave range which includes the whistle! She’s classically trained on the keys and violin. I’ve seen her live several times and it’s like a religious experience. If you haven’t already please check out “With Open Arms”, “Nothing has ever felt like this” and “Waiting”.
I am glad someone finally reviewed Rachelle. This woman is the beast of all beast musically. Rachelle is so underrated.
We know all out own legends to well. Rachelle Ferrel is a master class singer. Pronounced Rah Chelle Fah Relle. Not like Rachel. Ledesi started out singing background for her. Just like Luther sang for Roberta Flack. Then Lisa Fisher sung backup for Luther Vandross.
And if you think you love this lady so early into the performance 😂🤣✋
We all know he ain't seen nothing yet! Cause Babae!
WOW……..I had no idea Ledisi sang background. The joy of living is that you never stop learning new things!
This brought tears to my eyes. I love your reaction to her and her voice is butter 🥰
The kinda grass fed butter you gotta go to the farmers market to get.
She’s the greatest vocalist to ever walk this planet PERIOD. Please go listen to the live album version of this song, she does some crazy mind blowing stuff and it’s all live with her playing the piano, please remember that when you go and listen. The album is called live at Montreux 1991 and it’s the same song, “I Can Explain “. Trust me and you are welcome!
Thank you!
Easily....God blessed us with this angel!
Her voice is an entire orchestra! One of the greatest vocalist ever!!!!!!!
Please do all the Rachelle Ferrell videos you can find! :D
PLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAASSSSSSEEEEEEEEE 🙏🏽 There is NO ONE like her.
🥰🥰🥰 @ “How much lung capacity does a human have? I thought I knew the answer until now.”
I warmly recommend Sarah Vaughan - My Funny Valentine (1.6m views, yellow dress). Sarah and Rachelle are fenomenal and i've never heard so far, anyone else play with the voice, notes, dynamics in so passionate and unique way which is utterly unbelievable. By the way, your reaction is great and God thank you there are folks who appreciate real musicians!
They're both so amazing. The way Sarah Vaughn is so casual and unpredictable.
This is by far the best analysis video about Rachelle that I've seen, thank you very much! The way you stop and talk about all the details I notice that you know what you're talking about. I am a fan of Rachelle for about 30 years and as far I know there's no one that comes close to her. Some are maybe technical very good and some are very soulful but her combination of range, technique, expression all in combination and always in control is truly unique together with playing the piano in such a musical way at the same time is out of this world. Look for With Open Arms at the Apollo theatre and you hear her singing in the whistle register too and the way she interacts with the audience is really great!
You MUST experience her live!!!
@@avionterria7855 yes I once went to see her on my birthday and I went alone. Her, Kenny Lattimore and George Duke. Thus was before Uber. I had to catch the bus, walk a good piece AND catch a cab but it was so worth it!
@@avionterria7855 I’ve been blessed to witness her mastery live and in person. Her, Will Downing, Gerald Albright & George Duke! I lost my everlasting mind! ♥️♥️♥️
@@avionterria7855 Yes I did. It was a beautiful experience with George Duke (R.I.P) Jonathan Butler and other artists. She is a true GEM 💎
I mentioned above that these reactions make me LOL and cry since I share the same appreciation and emotions. I really enjoy the technical breakdowns as well. I just found this channel.
Rachelle Farrell has been my favorite singer since day 1. No one can compete with her. Not only is her technique like no other, her range is MIND BLOWING. Her whistle and low notes will amaze you. She is the best singer on the planet to me! She is a grandmaster of her craft.
Rachelle deserves her flowers while she’s here! You should check out With Open Arms and Nothing Has Ever Felt Like This!
And Waiting...Tremendous!
Let’s give Rachelle her flowers! This woman is phenomenal .The people who really know and understand music know she is multitalented. So happy you featured one of my faves!
She said she grew up mocking the trains and birds and other sounds that she heard. She was a professional by age 12, I think. She got her first piano at 10.
She mimicked everything. I saw an interview where she said that she mimicked fire trucks 🚒 🤯🤯🤯 WHAAAAAAT?
Thanks for that info. I am insanely in love with her skill and talent.
I love it when you stop and say I you can’t… This is when you hear something you never heard before and thinks it’s mind boggling! Rachell will have you doing this in all of her songs! So buckle up my friend! She is beyond amazing. She has perfect pitch and can mimic any instrument with her voice! Great pick to review. You’re reaction is priceless!
Rachelle is gonna make whatever face she needs to for those notes to come out
Amen
People talking about her face need to stop listening to music with their eyes.
Wait…wait wait…I almost had a heart attack just looking at the title of this video! Let me buckle up!
**presses play
I couldn't wait to see his reaction either
Before I even watch the video, I KNOW you are going to have a thrill ride with this one. Rachelle is just a total phenomenon on her own.
To see her live is like something otherworldly. To see so much God given talent and to be a part of the conversation that she holds with the audience throughout the show, it is just mind blowing. I'm so glad that you found this and that you enjoyed it.
She is a self taught pianist at that. She is just incredible and your reactions and analysis were so perfect. I so wanted her to hit her whistle note on this performance like on the CD. But this was awesome if you’ve never seen her perform before. ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Piano prodigy.
Graduated Berkeley in one year.
Imagine hearing her in person, she's amazing 👏.
She’s awesome in concert
MY FAVORITE VOCALIST 🙌🏿
She just became one of mine. I had heard highlights where she did crazy stuff, but this was my first time really getting to know her musically. It was an awesome experience!
Yes, my favorite girl
Rachelle is A BEAST ! Her vocals are a crazy instrument! She gets all the sounds and notes out with each facial expressions...she's freaking awesome!
I’ve seen Rachelle perform in person and she is someone and a talent to behold. I feel sad that she was not appreciated by more of an audience…they surely missed out! Thankyou for sharing your review and witness to more of the Creator’s greatness.
She wears you out. straight musicianship.
Thank you for this great review of my favorite singer Rachelle Ferrell.
She's a musical beast
She is one of my favorites. Great reaction.
I'm glad for folks recommending her to me. I am still dumb founded.
SOOOOOO UNDERRATED WOW finally someone shows her some love. She is UNMATCHED
SHE IS A BEAST!
Your reaction to this artist was priceless...keep the vids coming
Fun fact, Rachelle has held a note for 32 seconds
I've done that, but it doesn't sound nearly as good nor did I have that insane dynamic control.
It's the combination that blows my mind. She may well be the most musical and technical singer I've ever reviewed.
@@LesageSinging Once for my birthday, I booked three tickets to see Rachelle Ferrell on three separate, consecutive days. I bullshit you not, each day was completely different. She even used music to break up a fight that broke out that weekend. She is something else ENTIRELY
I am scared to start making music after listening to her, but I'm also oddly motivated.
@@LesageSinging Rachelle just wants you to be free as an artist. Like, take this opportunity to drop the perfection and explore your true capacity.
@@SuiteVII I love that. What an amazing and memorable birthday celebration that had to have been!!
"with open arms" was the 1st I heard of her and then I was hooked!
Rachelle is a Musicians GODDESS...I play piano and this is 💫💫💫
Rachelle Farrell still makes me cry.
Thanks for taking the time to explain her talents.. Rachelle Is one of THE best female singers of all time! What a tremendous Gift God has given her, and she uses it very well... KUDOS RACHELLE!
Omg I’m crying I’m so happy you’ve reacted to Rachelle!! She sits up on the throne with Mariah Carey in my humble opinion 😭 I would recommend listening to Lisa Fischer - How do I ease the pain live.🙌🏼
No, sorry, Mariah sits at Rachelle's feet because she could not hold a candle to Rachelle and Mariah will tell you herself she doesn't want to tangle with Rachelle in no shape form or fashion...Now Mariah has a cute lil voice, but Rachelle is not to be fucked with...In fact Lisa has the up's on Mariah as well because these two ladies are seasoned SANGA'S....Mariah is still nursing...now these girls that came after Lisa and Rachelle, Mariah may do them in but not the Ol' School ladies..
Yes to Lisa Fischer!!!!! I just found this channel and I’m thrilled !!! LOL and crying. His reactions are incredibly entertaining. He has that technical knowledge and 💯 appreciation.
LISA FISHER 👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑
@@OctoberLibra1 are you done? I said what I said.
Yes! Saw her live - second concert of three that evening. I left wondering how one person could have that much energy and lung capacity. Absolutely amazing!
You're welcome haha!! Someone here mentioned that Rachelle (Ruh-shell) is a national treasure and she is! I'm 42 and I've been listening to and studying her since I was 15 or so and I'm nowhere near finished. She's not someone one can just figure out; she's a technical and phonic genius in her craft. Being a pianist only enhances her monster vocals and her ear, especially in regard to runs (just as it did 1990's Kim Burrell). I have no answer for her lung capacity, though :) Take a listen to her jazz album, First Instrument. I think you'll like it.
You have a wonderful ear yourself and awesome taste, btw. I just discovered your channel tonight and I've already seen most of my favorites: Whitney, Jazmine, Le'Andria, Tamela, etc,. Your commentary is nuanced and so sound. I'm also classically trained, but that was such a long time ago and I've since moved on with Gospel, R&B, and jazz, but it was great to be reminded of all the mechanics. Great job; new subscriber.
Your facial expressions are PRICELESS!! 😂🤣😂🤣She DIGS DOWN, AND TOUCHES OUR SOULS!!❤️🔥🎶❤️🔥🎶❤️🔥🎶❤️🔥
Right!!? She's next level.
Rachelle Ferrell!!!❤️💙
She is an instrument. Period
Lesson of the day??
RACHELLE FERRELL IS THE TRUTH!!!❤️🔥🎶❤️🔥🎶❤️🔥🎶❤️🔥
Best lesson on the channel Michele :D
Did anyone else literally feel that pure joy, starting @ 19:07, when she laughed out loud 🖐🏽? This is one of the ways in which music can heal us. My inner child felt that 😌.
My favorite song by Rachelle Ferrell. After all these years I cry every-time I listen to this song. From the piano to her voice. Omg!!!!
All I can say is...IKR?! Welcome to Rachelle...she breathes out, we breathe in...that's all anyone can do...lol
🤣🤣😂
She's magical
Rance Allen & the Clark Sister, she reminds me of. This was like a Sunday when the pianist/choir director decides she just gonna do a solo and the choir has to stand up and just rock and at the end the choir finally gets one or two phrase and then we break out in a praise. Praise Break, everybody clap your hands!!!!
Hi, first sorry for my bad English. Ok i’ve got some little things to say to you. I very glad for you to discover THE ICON. I was very lucky cause I was there for this live. It was in summer around 2000. À choc for everyone, something I can’t explain. I haven’t got enough superlative adjective to discribe what happen. My late father made my musical education. He said about Miss Ferrell, sometime it happen. A perfect combination between the singer, the musicians, I saw a lot of handkerchief this night. Man it was just near perfection. Now technically I would say that what I prefer it’s her medium and of course her low register. But what you note and I totally agree with you it’s her extraordinary dynamic in her voice. I never heard that anytime. It’s unreal. This live was not a millimetric live, it was a long long very long jam. And that’s the tour de force. You said that the drummer was on point. All the musicians were on point. But what I remember was that they were all totally connected.
To finish I totally agree with what you said on this video. And I hope for you and everyone you could see her live. Trust me I will pay a lot of money to see her again.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful story. I hope I get to see her love.
When she held that note, and walked the entire Apollo Theater, in one breathe. Never seen anything like it since!
Honestly most of the singers you're in Awe of are afraid to sing on the same stage with this lady. And they will quickly tell you, no shame in it.
They are all afraid to sing with her 🤣😂🤣
Ledesi said when they were on stage together. Sue saw her in the crowd and called Ledesi up ok stage. Ledesi said, That's why nobody wanna sing with you 🤣😂✋
So true. Fear.
I was at that performance 😂
I love your breakdown and appreciation of this masterful ethereal artist!
Rachell Ferrel is a MASTERPIECE. PLEASE COME HOME. LOVE YOU SO MUCH. AND MOST OF ALL, MISS YOU. PRAYING FOR YOU.
She's blowing your mind I can tell💜
The first (and only) time I saw Rachelle live was at the North Sea Jazz Festival, about 20 years ago. Words cannot begin to explain.
She is the GOAT, in my opinion.
:::: a true master -wow. thank you for the analysis. you did a brilliant job.
Thanks. A singer of this caliber is always intimidating to analyze, but I'm glad folks enjoy it.
@Lesage Singing you were indescribably thorough.....each deliberate step-by-step break down helps us nonmusicians appreciate what's going on and the extreme skill of it....its otherworldly!
This teacher knows his business he's on point I've never seen a teacher go in-depth like that where are you sir I would love to take voice lessons
Nice analysis. I'd be interested in your take on Jill Scott's vocals. She has a lot of range and power.
I enjoy what seems to be genuine appreciation for what your hearing, damn I love your reaction to this !!!!
Thank you cyber! She amazes me to no end. I have beef with folks who dislike her because she makes "weird faces". The work she does with vowels is why she has this unlimited options of tones.
@@LesageSinging.....I love those faces she makes
Another great analysis of a legend 👏🏽 🙌🏾
Rochelle and La la are THE BEST female vocalist period. And since they're in jazz, they're completely ignored and under -appreciated.
Bow down!!!😂😂😂😂
I’ve been listening to this performance for over a decade and I still learned to appreciate new aspects of it from your analysis.
You need to listen to Call ie Day "Hear My Prayer"... she is a master at her craft!
The live versions where she's at a rehearsal. It's not the whole song, but sweet Jesus I listened to that probably 100 times back to back trying to see how in God's name she was singing like that. She BLEW ME AWAY
This was a joy to watch the appreciation. For me there is Ms. Ferrell. Then everyone else.
Thank you! Early 2000's, I saw Rachelle, George Duke and Al Jareau in Philadelphia. One of the best shows ever.
Rachelle Ferrell is epic! 🔥
Peace and love...
Thank you for reacting to Queen Rachelle. I saw her live at a small venue a few years ago. The energy and the atmosphere she creates is by far unmatched. I'm glad that you discovered the Best Voice of our Time.
Love this reaction !💜
So glad to see a Rachelle critique on your vids. She is legendary...
I love this lady and listening to this I have chills…my eyes are watering and my nose is running…sound….vibration is powerful 😮💨😮💨😮💨😮💨
Be still my heart! Fell in love with her my sophomore year in high school… my heart still skips a beat when I hear especially this intro! ❤
She's stunning in every facet of music making.
I love watching and listening to you analyze Rochelle Farrell. You appreciate her and acknowledge her talent and skill. She moves you. I can see it and hear it!
People always say that a singer "can do anything" with their voice as a compliment and it's usually said about great vocalists like Whitney, Freddie, Celine, Aretha and other incredibly talented vocalists, but if you look hard enough you can always find clips of them going past their limits and not being able to do something. With this woman I've yet to find that. She can, literally, do anything with her voice
He gave us a breakdown of Rachelle Ferrell musicianship and her vocals he really explain Rachelle Ferrell to us my hat goes off to this gentleman I am impressed with his knowledge
Been a fan of hers since mid 90s. I'm so glad to see you review her song. She is truly incomparable!
I've seen her in concert 3 times and I'll never compare anyone to her, recorded or live. Do another one of her songs... PLEASE
I recommend her cover of "If you only knew" by Patti Labelle.
😂😂😂 watching you completely mind blown it's awesome each time I watch anything she does I'm the same! Glad you found this and your channel is the absolute best at dissecting these amazing vocals and keys etc especially for people that's don't study.
Your reaction to her at 23:23 min mark made me chuckle!!!! Because I so understand! She is so out of this world!!!!!
The amount of anatomical knowledge you are giving when talking about belting is.... very valuable. Thank you for sharing. I hope it can make me a little more aware and in touch with my FOLDS. And to sing better because of that.
Rachelle Ferrell is one of the most Profound Master Vocalist today. She has a 5 or 6 Octave Range and Perfect Pitch. When She performs, She tunes all the Instruments to her Ears. She is also the Cousin of the Late Master Pianist George Duke .
God gave her such awesome gifts that it's mind blowing sometimes.
😂 @14:03 when you stared and said “What?” That’s the reaction I wait for everyone to have when listening to her! I was sitting here mouthing “WTF”? and I have heard her sing this song 100 times or more.
I’m so happy to have found your channel a few days ago. Your featuring these artists gives new life to the vocal sounds & music that I was born hearing and listening to. Sharing your appreciation & technical knowledge brings me to delightful tears. Thanks Man. Your reactions make me LOL and some make me cry since I get it 😊
Genius! Absolutely amazing ❤
Very enjoyable review of my favorite artist. Thank you for this. 😊
I love love love her as an artist
Thankyou for this reaction, she is so underrated!
