    WHAT IS TINNITUS?
    Tinnitus is a symptom and not a disease It’s a sign that something is wrong with your auditory system, which includes your ear, the auditory nerve that connects the inner ear to the brain, and the parts of the brain that process sound. Tinnitus is the name for when you hear noise in your ears or head, but it doesn't come from an outside sound. It is a very common problem.
    TINNITUS CAUSES:
    * ageing
    * loud music or noise
    * medications
    * ear wax
    * infections
    * injury
    * illnesses such as diabetes or Ménière's disease.
    But what is actually producing that ringing sound in ear?
    One of the most common causes of tinnitus is damage to the hair cells in the cochlea. These cells help transform sound waves into nerve signals. If the auditory pathways or circuits in the brain don't get the signals they're expecting from the cochlea, the brain starts to increase the gain to detect the sound signal. Its kind of like, when you turn up the volume on a car radio when you're trying to find a station's signal. The result is an electrical noise we call tinnitus. Its like phantom limb pain in an amputee - the brain is producing abnormal nerve signals to compensate for missing input.
    How to treat tinnitus and cure ringing in the ear
    1.) Noise suppression. This especially can help if your symptoms are worsened at night when you're trying to fall asleep. You can dry to drown out the noise with some white noise or background noise from Fans, humidifiers, dehumidifiers and air conditioners. There are also devices which produce simulated environmental sounds such as falling rain or ocean waves which can help mask the ringing with sound coming from something else.
    2.) Hearing aids. Many people who have tinnitus also have hearing loss. Hearing aids may help provide relief from tinnitus by making sounds louder and the tinnitus less noticeable.
    3.) Tinnitus retraining therapy. Which follow up studies suggest it provides relief for around 80% of people. A trained professional or audiologist, walks you thru wearing a device that emits low level noise to retrain the auditory system to accept abnormal sounds rather than find them disruptive. Ongoing sessions are needed, but it has seemed to help people cope better with their symptoms.
    4.) Counseling options. Cognitive behavioral therapy or (CBT) or acceptance and commitment therapy or (ACT) with a psychologist can help you learn ways to limit the attention you give to tinnitus to help better manage the stress and anxiety it causes.
    5.) Visit your dentist? Now you might be thinking, what on earth does that have to do with my ears. Sometimes tinnitus is produced by stress on the jaw and neck muscle or like we mentioned earlier, temporomandibular disorder. If you are one to clench your teeth or grind them at night, which is shown to be another cause of tinnitus. A dentist can help provide you solutions to preventing this altogether.
    How to prevent tinnitus and stop ear ringing
    1.) Avoid irritants. reduce your exposure to things that may make your tinnitus worse. This includes loud noises obviously, caffeine and nicotine. So if you currently smoke, now is a great time to consider quitting.
    2.) Manage stress. Stress can make tinnitus worse. Find out what works for managing stress and keep a healthy routine with doing just that. Whether that is thru relaxation therapy, exercise, or talking to someone.
    3.) Minimize alcohol consumption. Alcohol increases the force of your blood by dilating your blood vessels, causing greater blood flow, especially in the inner ear area.
    4.) If your cause is medicine related, talk to your doctor about possibly changing you to a different form of medicine that equally suffices.
    5.) Neck Exercises.

    My tinnitus seems to have returned after 25 years! I am 67 and used to have ringing in both ears and sometimes would hear humming at night time. I don't have the ringing anymore, but the humming has returned. It took me by surprise because I was convinced at first that it was caused by an appliance being used by a neighbour! I was interested in the mention of TMD because I have a flare up of that at the moment, so that could be the cause. When these things first come on, you think they're there to stay, but very often they go away, so it's important to remember that and to try not to panic!

      I have tinnitus for over 12 years. In all these years I notice that I have bad times with very loud noise but also almost no noise. First of all, ignore it and lissen to some music you like.
      Second, I notice that if you do some fasting, example don't eat in the morning the nois is almost or totally gone.
      Thirth, if you eat, don't eat sugar or drinks with sugar or enything else with sugar in it.
      Fourth, don't eat very fat products. I think that the the body is toxic and must be detoxed. It's in your own hands. I tested it for years and every time I hear that high bieb in my ears it has to do with sugar products and high fat but specially the sugar is the problem. It works for me real good changing my lifestyle. But every time I eat or drink something sweet, cola, pineapple or sirup or chocolate the bieb is back very loud.

      Detox your body by fasting. Don't eat sugar or high fat products and your tinnitus Wil be gone. Test it yourself. Don't eat in the morning for example.. Don't take anything with sugar in it. Than the next day. Do the same. But take sugar. You will understand what I tell you. Sugar is toxic for your body and brain.

      It is the thruth. Has to do with insulin. Every time I use sugar products I have a very loud bieb. You should think why should I take them. That's because sometimes I need some sweet products and can't resist it. But every time I eat or drink even fruits the tinitis comes up very loud. Try it out and let me know. For me it works perfectly. It is in my own hands and you loose weight also.

    My yoga teacher tells me that in tinnitus the inside of the ear needs to open. So you could put your little fingers at the opening of the ear canal ,and pull it upward. The other thing one can do is sarvanga asana with your hips resting on a chair , the legs pulled up straight at th head of the chair and your neck on the floor, supported by a few two folded blankets. I am working at this and still to see results.

    I have had tinnitus for years. It surprises me that you don’t mention the following:
    possible reason?
    High noise in the working environment. In my case.and many colleagues, high noise from turbine engine over many years without sufficient earphones.
    I was told that the hair in the cochlea is moving following the noise. Higher noise and the hair will bend more. If they get damaged and do not raise again you’ll have the tinnitus for ever.
    So I learned to live with it. Ok with me, but sometimes frustrating for my family and friends, when I ask: what did you say?? 🤪
