Every single time I see that molding I’m gobsmacked 😶at how utterly more beautiful it becomes as you continue your restoration. If you don’t think 🤔 your work is appreciated, think again. Well done!

Oh Carole! What patience you have! I can only imagine how tedious and daunting the process of casting, creating and adhering each mirror detail is! I 100 % agree you deserve a Medal of Honor! Adrian, your woodworking skills (amongst all of your other skills) never fail to amaze me!
So very proud of all the work y’all (I’m from the American south) are doing! The salon is going to be a showstopper for sure! Heather

Carole, by far you are my favorite. Your patience is an amazing attribute. Is the pearl showing up with all the white or blending in? Could not see it. Wasn’t sure it if it was standing out in person. The hours you have spent in that room, we can now imagine the cost involved if one had to pay for the work. So proud of you.

Carole, you are a highly skilled and detail-oriented woman! I love that when you are in "decorator mode" they all run! lol On another channel, Chateau Life, Angelina just found a gold paint that is beautiful! It is a powder and really comes up gold. Give it a look. It was Tuesday's vlog. Run Adrian, Matthew and Bethany! lol Have a great week!

The ceiling looks great! And no, you can't see the pearl from the camera's viewpoint, but I'll bet it looks great in person. I think the antique gold looks best, too. You have excellent taste, Carole, and work hard to get it just right. Sorry to hear the cat is catching baby rabbits. 😥 Two years ago we rescued a wild Eastern Cottontail bunny, roughly four weeks old, from our back yard. A predator had gotten into the nest and she was the only survivor. We named her Catcher, and she is now the cutest, spunkiest member of our household of five parrots. We just adore her! So, protect those bunnies if you can. What about running an overhead lead wire, and putting the cat on a long leash (like a dog run). This would allow the cat to be outside and have freedom of movement, but would prevent her from stalking wildlife with much success. Just looking for a creative solution that might solve your problem. Granted, wild rabbits and squirrels do feed wild predators, but it's a sad waste for a well-fed domestic cat to confuse them with mice.

    •  Před 2 lety +1

The pearl is very beautiful, but needs some gold! Adrian will be shocked if he read what you suggest for Tia, he loves my cat more than he loves me and I'm not being strung up yet!!!!!!!!

    • @loribragg2947
      @loribragg2947 Před 2 lety

@ LOL I didn't say 'tie the cat up' 😂 Just restrict her movements. Years ago I had a Maine Coon that loved to be outside, but I lived in an area that placed fines on cats running free outdoors. So, I put her on a long leash in the back yard and kept an eye on her (I never put her out when I wasn't home). She often kept me company while I worked in the garden, loved being outside, and never ran off or got into a fight with another cat. It was the perfect solution. 😜

Carole I used gilt cream on a mirror which was very easy to use and can be left matt or buffed to a shine. It comes in various shades of gold. I applied it over red fontenay base. All Liberon brand. I applied the gilt cream with a small soft brush. I also used the gilt cream on dried poppy seed heads to use in Christmas floral decorations- very effective. My impression is that this room was always silver and gold with that fabulous grey wallpaper. A light bright brassy gold will stand out without being too “in your face”. I think the Pearl on the beading is a good accent color. We cannot see it on camera, but that is t the point of it. BTW, was it you or Angelina who painted the piece red first, then gold to give it a distinct hue? It doesn’t have to be red. Whatever color works to achieve the appropriate gold color you are looking for. 😋👍🏼 You do amazing work with humor and an abundance of patience and attention to detail. It will look delicious when you get done.

Carole, you were not kidding with the messy paint sprayer debacle!!!! Oh my, that was a bit messy!!! (I would be covered in it!!!) I think the mirror is looking gorgeous!.. I like the antique gold best, at least from a camera angle. I can kind of make out the pearl, a bit, but like Beth says, in person, one can probably see it much better!! I was going to the paint store the other day just to see if they sell pain already pearly!!! I would love that in my bathroom!!!! Love from Wisconsin

Pearly bathroom sounds lovely, I'm pretty sure Dulux sell Pearl effect paint if you cam get it, otherwise I'm sure you can find one. Send me a photo when it's done xx

I wonder if the small pearl trim would look good with a silver paint instead of the pearl and use the pearl finish on the bigger rounded details, so they stand out more and look like pearls. I think the white of the little pearls against the white trim kind of washes it out (at least on camera) and it gets lost/blends in (depends on the effect you are going for). The section where it is painted gold really pops and stands out against the rest of the white trim. I think the thick flowery trim would look best in gold/silver to make it really stand out against the white (perhaps painted gold with flecks of silver on top). I am not sure if you are familiar with the library of Louis XVI room at Versailles, but your ceiling trim kind of reminds me of the trim in that room, with the various different trim levels accented in gold over white for a sort of striped appearance.

I've seen some fabulous detailing, but to get it right in situ is another thing. I'm still playing and asking opinions, the entire coving will be a mix match of samples before too long!!!

I am wondering if an antiquing that is applied by a rag over the details wouldn't highlight them best without it being too saturated. It does a nice job of highlighting the details. I've done it before. You're doing a stunning job!

I love the pearl, nice. Their is a lot of cracks on the crown. Do you use a wood filler to fix that or just put jesso over it? Re: hindges, Back when they were made? they were often made locally or onsite. since you have a carriage house it stand to reason they may have been constructed their? maybe? Nice job in repurposing the old hardware and keeping the integrity of the project together. Another tool, a small can of compressed air with a straw attachment so you can blow out the plaster bits in the woodwork.

    •  Před 2 lety +1

I'm actually going to use decorators chalk, as it's flexible and willsmooth into the cracks then fill over will gesso Cx

We can't see the pearlized texture on camera, but we can definitely see that the section where you pearlized the string of balls is a lot more defined than the string nearby that hadn't been treated with that finish. I bet the pearlization is gorgeous in person. Although it's subtle, it adds a lot. Totally agree that the acrylic gold colour hits the right balance of tone and intensity.
Love the trick of using the over-long screws to get the bolt holes exactly in place! Did you actually think of that before you did it, or was that a happy accident? I know if it had been something I had done which it would've been! Bwahahahahaha!!!
    Crack on!

The ceiling looks so beautiful with every step you take. So sorry for the backfire. The gesso color on the mirror frame is shockingly bright. Next step on the mirror frame finish? The cobbles are so worth the trouble. Walking with soft soles required to safe your feet and ankles. I lived on a historic street in Philadelphia, PA, USA which was cobbled. No high heels were possible so to work, I walked on the sidewalk. The house was the mid 1700 to early 1800's. Unfortunately, as a tenant I had no control of the treatment the owners gave the structures. The buildings were already internally destroyed by turning them indiscriminately from their original history into apartments. I can only hope the people who tore the internal structures apart, salvaged them for use elsewhere. I hate that happens so much in our historical US cities. My experience there was in the late l970's. The property no longer stands. Big blank lot, ugh! I love everything you both are accomplishing and planning.

Watch out with gold paint for display on the plaster. It comes thru the color as gray after weeks! We have thecm drama in two rooms. Previous owner painted parts sluggishly gold. We wanted white again and repainted all. Looked fine. But after weeks and months the gold came more and more through as gray. So my little advise: If you repaint it white or pearl, please use a color blocker now. Otherwise you could get really mad after a few months. 🙋🤗

The pearl is not showing up, but if you try getting up closer we can see it better on camera. It might take longer but a mix of the pearl and the gold on different area to give different depth might look good. I know that you get a lot of suggestions and in the end it only you that truly need to love it. I think you and your family are doing such an amazing job. Keep up the amazing work.
