In this video I share my experiences, goals, rules, gear, tips, and tricks for vlogging the Appalachian Trail. While these are just my experiences from the AT, much of the same can be said for other thruhikes, hikes, and outdoor adventures.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Would you please consider an extension to this video where you do a walkthrough of an editing session so absolute beginners can get an idea of how you piece together a weeks worth of videos and clips (and how you chose what to include and what not)

Thank you for sharing this bit of your craft. I really appreciate the minimalist approach to the process, and the simplicity and clarity of your narration. There are a lot of folks out there with drones, seemingly camera crews, and studio editors - your approach is a refreshing counterpoint to that trend. Also, kudos on the accomplishment and completing the AT. It is inspiring. Thx

Thank you for the very informative information. You were correct in saying there is very little out there that helps a NuB when it comes to creating and posting content.
Enjoy your thru hiking again as hiking is never boring and full of “Brand New, Unused experiences”

The hair tie thing is genius. I’m always carrying a hair tie now for that. Omg and no extra weight!

A bit remise............enjoyed your journey on the AT. Weekly format is great. Have enjoyed your follow up videos. Not a "VLOGer" but your insight have very important aspects. #1.......enjoy the journey. VLOG is secondary.

Just saw you on Trail Tales. It's the first episode I ever got through to the end. You are more interesting than most of his guests. Figured I's subscribe. Looking forward to your PCT hike.

I appreciate your after the trail videos very much. It's so much different to others who upload their exciting stuff and then disapear from the screen, without sharing any reflection on it. I think you've found a piece of passion ;-)
Many vloggers live for their vlogs and surely have lots of pressure to produce enough interesting daily content.
You have found the right balance for your personal AT experience and the parts of it you wanted to share with the world. I watched each vlog and enjoyed the simplicity.
The simpler the technology, the greater the challenge...
Eventually it's the cooperation of the producer, writer, regisseur, actor and editor, who use their skills and technology to form a result that reaches the viewer.
Each of them is you :-)
Thank you for all the hints and food for thought on vlogging!

Thanks for this. Although i have yet to do a backpacking trip of thousands of miles (longest so far was 165 mi around the TRT), I feel like I do enough that vlogging might be worth a try.
It always seemed to be a bit of a chore. Glad to see you've found a way to do this..

Thanks for the tips. In 2019, I used lightening flash drives, but for this year's hike I'm using my phone and an iPad which have different connecters. One is USB-C, the other is Lightening. I've ordered two dongles that connect USB-A to each of those other ends, so I can use less expensive, garden-variety flash drives. I've downloaded the Canva app, but it looks like it does nothing without an internet connection. I suppose I'll have to save thumbnail editing for town time. Also sad to hear that apparently, the internet speeds along the trail aren't any better than they were five years ago.
Thanks for the videos- I followed you and several others all the way this season.

Great video! Thanks! Love the tripod hack! Do you have a recommendation on a storage device now that you’re off trail? I need to find one before we leave in March.
And you’re so right! Vlogging and editing are a tremendous amount of work. So appreciate all who have shared with us. 🙏🏼 Thank you!

I think a micro SD card and transfer device is a good way to go with lots of storage. Maybe just do plenty of research on which brand to invest in for that transfer piece. The SD card is fairly standard, but the device that connects it to your phone should be consistent.

I always get excited to see a new vid from you, A!!
And I’m agreeing with the other person who suggested a part two to the vid, expanding on the actual process of piecing everything together. We newbies would much rather learn from YOU than any other YT video.
For a low key, low tech vlog, you do an amazing job!
    Much love, many hugs! ❤

Thank you for sharing this. I plan to vlog as well And really did not want to do a daily. I feel that would take away from what I was out there for. I have been really considering the once a week also.

Not a vlogger here but watched many. Creators often look awkward until they get up to speed. Before you know it they're comfortable in front of camera and video quality improves. So if you suck at first 🤮 know that this will probably pass with practice.⏳📸
