Itiwit Inflatable Kayak on Buttermere, English Lake District & Wild Swimming Life Jacket Test

- A cracking day spent in and around epic Buttermere in the Lake District, England. We got the Itiwit 100 2/3 places inflatable touring kayak all blown up and on Buttermere lake early. This area can be pretty busy and we fancied some quiet paddling. We parked up for free near Buttermere church, St James, at the crossroads (CA13 9UZ) but this fills up quick. There is tons of paid parking in the village. You will need to buy a day boating permit from the National Trust carpark if you wish to paddle (no engines allowed), it is 5 pounds and you can only use coins.
Ah, it was awesome, the beautiful clear water reflected the surrounding mountains, we could not have been happier. We paddled about for hours, pulling over a few times to get used to the landing routine, also we wanted tea😀
On the journey back we were against the wind, which was a good learning experience, a lot more work is needed and the boat moves very differently in the water, not overtly difficult, just different.
We loved viewing the mountains from the water, what a wonderful and almost dream-like sight. I would deeply recommend it to anyone who is able to get a boat on the water, wherever that may be, the world looks so different and it is refreshing.
After lots of messing about in Viking hats, we disembarked, took the kit back to the car and set off for the highest waterfall in the Lake District, Scale Force. The waterfall was very impressive, even during this particularly dry spell and is only a short (ish) distance from Buttermere. Really worth the effort.
We then headed back to the lake to test our life jackets. A wild swim with a life jacket on isn't very easy! Our life jackets, or buoyance aids, are Itiwit 50+ N, they gave sufficient buoyancy to keep our heads above water without movement. Floating/swimming on our backs seemed a lot easy than on our fronts but swimming with them on in general is a slightly awkward task, it needs practice. But we were impressed and felt much happier knowing they are fit for purpose and would help us considerably if we were to get into trouble.

A good way to skive at paddling being in the back and using the filming excuse 😂 Looks like a great way to relax. Is the boating pass free for NT members. The only time I've been to Scale Force it was leathering it down and I had to cross a bog to get there. Everyone loves a good waterfall tho 👍 Looked a great day out on a calm Buttermere. Love Buttermere ❤👍

It's like riding a tandem bike I guess, every now and then you can take it easy, just not both at the same time! ❤️👍🛶 we would like to revisit Scale Force, kinda feel it has more to offer and we may have miss judged the hike from the Lake. Mrs Metalmans favourite walk around Buttermere and what a glorious day you had for a paddle on the lake. Glad you missed those two wild looking ruffians, they did look really wild 😳. Still never been to Scale Force, promised Mrs Metalman we would do it next time we are there and it did look (cows apart) a real nice gentle walk. Despite all the dry weather the waterfall was still very impressive and what a perfect day to have a swim in Buttermere, looks like you had a brilliant time in the lakes with both weather and views, cheer Alan

Nice music! Gorgeous location to take the yak out. Kat is already looking more comfortable. Kayaking is such a great way to explore an area and get a completely different experience. Strong winds can make kayaking quite the chore. It's always a great idea to keep a watch out for changing wind directions. Same for when I am on my paddleboard too. My paddle board has a backpack similar to yours for the kayak but it also has wheels on it. The pump and the paddle fit in it as well. It makes it much easier to carry back and forth from a lake or river. You can pull it on the wheels or put it on like a backpack. Kayaking, walking, swimming, what a great day. The crouch strap is not a comfortable thing. It's just so you don't slip out of the lifejacket. Another beautiful location and adventure with my 2 fav UKers! ~RVA~

Yet another fun day. Jealous of you both in the lake today as it so warm this evening. Buttermere is one of the most delightful of the lakes and it must have been a wonderful experience floating in its midst. The waterfall was well worth a look. Very nice.

Wonderful, I used to swim here regularly, you are right about its' outstanding beauty. Buttermere can be extremely cold though so be careful, although you both look well equipped. Really enjoyed this video, a great way to see a different view of buttermere, we all know how stunning it looks from up high, but it’s equally as impressive from on the water itself, especially the way all the fells look in the background,

Never came across our radar before, but then the incredible kayak7seas and your derwent water video splashed into our lives in pretty much equal measure. Kayak7seas are absolutely mental, but your tutorial on Derwent Water has had us interview any kayaker at length about venturing into this field. We are sold, we have to try it. Loved it, great editing,incredibly powerful music choice, and the fact that we both sat, having our lunch break, atop the Gable, looking down on the lovely Buttermere, made this a very emotional and emotive TIV instalment for us. On land or sea, keep up the great work, and thankyou to both of you for that secret tip.. if your vlogging, you dont need to row, expect to see a lot more of Nick narrating future kayak videos! 🤣🤣 🛶
