The car steering system or just the steering system is the most important part of automobile vehicle steering control, responds so well to the driver while driving. Steering control makes you feel safe while driving.
The car steering system in the automobile is the process of running the vehicle in the desired direction by turning, usually the front wheels. For effective control of the vehicle throughout its speed range with safety, proper steering is necessary.
MANUAL STEERING SYSTEM
A manual steering system is a type of steering system that does not rely on power assistance from an electric motor or hydraulic pump. Instead, it uses mechanical linkages and levers to connect the steering wheel to the road wheels, allowing the driver to steer the vehicle by turning the steering wheel.
Steering wheel: The steering wheel is the primary control interface between the driver and the steering system. It is typically mounted on a column or a tiller and connected to the steering gear through a series of linkages.
Steering column: The steering column is the vertical shaft that connects the steering wheel to the steering gear. It transmits the input from the driver to the steering gear.
Steering gear: The steering gear is the mechanism that converts the rotational motion of the steering wheel into linear motion to turn the wheels. There are different types of steering gears, such as rack-and-pinion, recirculating ball, and worm-and-sector gears.
Idler arm: The idler arm is a pivot point that connects the steering gear to the suspension system. It helps to transfer the turning motion from the steering gear to the wheels.
Tie rods: The tie rods are rods that connect the idler arm to the wheel hubs, transmitting the turning motion to the wheels.
ELECTRIC STEERING SYSTEM
An electric steering system is a type of power steering system that uses an electric motor to assist the driver in steering the vehicle. It is an alternative to traditional hydraulic power steering systems, which use hydraulic fluid to assist in steering.
Electric motor: The electric motor is used to provide assistive torque to the steering column, making it easier for the driver to steer the vehicle.
Electric control unit: The electric control unit (ECU) is responsible for controlling the electric motor and monitoring the vehicle's speed, acceleration, and steering angle.
Sensors: Various sensors are used to monitor the vehicle's speed, acceleration, and steering angle, and provide input to the ECU.
Steering wheel position sensor: This sensor monitors the position of the steering wheel and sends signals to the ECU.
Torque sensor: This sensor measures the torque applied to the steering wheel and sends signals to the ECU.
POWER STEERING SYSTEM
A power steering system is a mechanical or hydraulic system that helps to assist the driver in steering a vehicle by reducing the effort required to turn the wheels. The system uses a combination of gears, pumps, and hydraulic fluid to amplify the force applied by the driver, making it easier to steer the vehicle.
Steering Column: The steering column receives input from the driver's hands.
Pump: The pump (in HPS and EHPS systems) or electric motor (in EPS systems) generates pressure or torque to assist in steering.
Steering Gear: The pressure or torque is transmitted to the steering gear, which converts it into a turning force.
Steering Shaft: The turning force is transmitted through the steering shaft to the rack and pinion (or recirculating ball) mechanism.
Rack and Pinion: The rack and pinion mechanism converts the turning force into rotational motion, which turns the wheels.
