Dr. Walter Benning, an abortion provider, is killed in church.

We had a case in the Buffalo, New York area where an abortion provider was murdered in his own home by a virulent anti-abortion activist. Personally, I would never have an abortion, but I would never force it on anybody else.

I would like to point out that when someone has a 3rd trimester abortion it's normally because they wanted the baby, but for some reason birth would not be the best choice for the mother and/or the baby. One example is the baby and/or mother may die during or soon after birth and a c-section would not be a good substitute for natural birth.

In many (most?) countries you can be charged for not helping someone, and this especially applies to doctor who neglect their patients and let them die.
There are some very real cases like this.
My grandfather told a story of a guy his brother knew who was pro life, years later he was shooting up an abortion clinic. I'm not sure if anyone was hurt but it really makes you think "how can someone so pro life want to take a life?"

And to the people who believe my story is false, even if it was, that does not discredit other stories and documented cases where this does happen and in fact, happens frequently enough to be a pattern. not only shootings but threats of violence, bomb threats and even stalking of abortion doctors is not uncommon, especially recently.
This happens fairly often to various degrees. From shootings to bombings. Pro-lifers have also been known to write down license plates of people visiting clinics and stalk them.
Ever notice how a lot of pro life people also tend to support the death penalty because “the death row inmate made a choice, and the consequence was death”? Their belief in being pro life isn’t as extreme as their belief in vengeance.
The unborn” are a convenient group of people to advocate for. They never make demands of you; they are morally uncomplicated, unlike the incarcerated, addicted, or the chronically poor; they don’t resent your condescension or complain that you are not politically correct; unlike widows, they don’t ask you to question patriarchy; unlike orphans, they don’t need money, education, or childcare; unlike aliens, they don’t bring all that racial, cultural, and religious baggage that you dislike; they allow you to feel good about yourself without any work at creating or maintaining relationships; and when they are born, you can forget about them, because they cease to be unborn. You can love the unborn and advocate for them without substantially challenging your own wealth, power, or privilege, without re-imagining social structures, apologizing, or making reparations to anyone. They are, in short, the perfect people to love if you want to claim you love Jesus, but actually dislike people who breathe. Prisoners? Immigrants? The sick? The poor? Widows? Orphans? All the groups that are specifically mentioned in the Bible? They all get thrown under the bus for the unborn.

If you truly care about life, then you would never even consider committing murder in the name of saving unborn lives because that is clearly insanity and a clear disconnect between motivation and action. Okay, but the baby's case of Ehler's Danlos Syndrome must have been one of the more rare, severe kinds because I have EDS and the only thing I have to worry about is making sure I go to bed with pillows supporting my arms, if I don't, I run the possibility of waking up with my arms dislocated from their socket. I've had to reset my shoulder a few times, myself.
On the other hand, I know of a girl who was wheelchair bound, not because she couldn't walk, but because her neck could slip out of place, internally decapitaing her.

Someone commented that the disease described is a baby who skin tears when you barely touch it. I don’t know the name of the disease but I think shows like this should be very careful because now some people may want abortions for Ehlers-Danlos and like you said it’s very manageable. And there are so many degrees of it that they wouldn’t have time to go into it on a show like law and order
I was thinking the same thing. I have a few friends that have EDS and most of them just have to be careful when they walk as there hips will sometimes move out to far. Some shows don't do there research about conditions and just choose something not many people have heard of and go with it as it sounds severe.
Fellow hypermobile EDS. While it's a pain not having things sprain or sublux (right hip and left jaw for me :D ) I think there's a few types that also come with heart problems and are more severe?
@@kristen7948Yes, there's a cardiovascular subtype that can lead to blood vessels suddenly rupturing, leading to death, if memory serves (granted most of the research I did on EDS was back before they changed how they categorized the subtypes and so my info may be a bit out of date)
I am pro-choice, but I was incredibly uncomfortable about the idea of 3rd trimester abortion (that genuinely disturbs me), heck even the second trimester seems too far along… that being said: when I heard that the woman’s baby had a condition that would cause them to go through a great deal of pain and have a high risk of death… I can understand wanting an abortion. As disturbing as a 3rd trimester abortion seems to me, letting a child go through that kind of suffering seems far worse to me.
I wish pro-life people could be brought in front of babies that had no choice but to be born with horrible conditions, just so they can see what “pro-life” can sometimes look like.

I absolutely agree. I'm pro choice all the way, and I feel the same about late term abortions. I also think that late term abortions should only be done if either the foetus or the parent is in danger of death/low quality of life and that abortions should be done as soon as possible.

It makes me queasy too but I’m ok with other than just babies with problems too. I learned most women who have late term abortions are from poor communities where getting to an abortion clinic takes a ten hour drive and so much money for hotels and everything. It often takes until 20 weeks to get there. If we eliminated late term abortion the poor women of America would suffer even more. Rich women just fly off to other countries

This case is based on the death of George Tiller, or maybe better known as "Tiller the Killer." His kids actually went to my school and my parents knew him. It was extremely shocking when it happened of course, but even weirder to see it played out on Law and Order.

I live with elhers-danlos syndrome. It's hard but you carry on. Yes it's a horrible condition but you just learn to live with it unfortunately. I'm happy most of time. I can do things most people do just in different ways.

The difference between pro-choice and pro-life people are that pro-choice folks only dare to pick fights and kill people that are much smaller and weaker than them. Pro-life people advocate contraception to avoid conception, there is no loss of life in the absence of it.

1st that baby would be born in agony and die soon after birth in all likelihood if the baby survives birth.3rd term abortions only happen in extreme circumstances. You would not leave even a dog or cat in such agony. But it's okay to do that to an infant? This is a tough medical choice and should be between the parents and a doctor.

Ehlers Danlos Syndrome is not at all how you described it. Its a medical condition that causes issues but no one would consider Euthanizing a child for it. Look it up if you want to actually know what it is before assuming.

I recall this being posted before, including the wrong syndrome name. What's described is epidermolysis bullosa, also known as "butterfly children" because it causes their skin to be as fragile as butterfly wings.
Ehrlers Danlos is a defect in collagen production and there are many varieties of it just as there are many varieties of collagen. Fragile skin is a known symptom of certain ED subtypes, especially ones that involve type I collagen which is the predominant form of collagen found in the skin.

They could have meant EB, but in Ehlers danlos, the rarer types can have this complication. I in fact have it myself. It is not AS fragile as those with EB, but I have constant skin infections, get sores from seams in clothing, medical adhesive rips off layers of skin, my scars rupture with just pressure, etc.
Love Law and Order but Ehlers Danlos causes skin tearing in very few people, it belongs to the rarer category of EDS. Most of us are hypermobile or flexible and suffer dislocations. It is a connective tissue disorder that affects the strength of your skin and joints, 'the lightest touch' applies to less than about 5% of cases. Makes me mad to see how mis-diagnosed/treated we were back in the day but also glad to see how far we have come.
While I agree with your point on the disorder's (mis)representation, you also stated that what they represented exists. So, it's not really a misrepresentation; even if the 'lightest touch' is incredibly rare-- it exists and so the show did nothing wrong here.
@@kendrayoung6237 It's not even incredibly rare. 1/20 is pretty common and it is a death sentence. The fact is that some conditions that could be diagnosed in utero back then could not be diagnosed until very late in pregnancy, the same is true today, and that does sometimes put parents in extremely difficult situations. Everyone is not prepared to raise a different or disabled child much less a profoundly so one. My parent's were not and I was only just barely on the autism spectrum.

Instead of enforcing heavy abortion laws, if the Christian ruled states increased sexual education, provide contraception and teached how to use them and made kids know more about the stuff, unwanted pregnancies would be reduced by a LOT.

In Australia we seem to havea pretty decent open adoption system and it is much cheaper & easier than IVF.

Unfortunately, contraception of any form is frowned upon in many churches. It is believed that preventing a pregnancy isn’t god’s will and is not “natural”. Instead, they mindlessly advocate for abstinence.

except what they described wasn't EDS, EDS doesn't cause skin breakdown like that. People with EDS can live normal, happy lives and EDS isn't a reason to abort late-term
@@rockercaterrorencountered4924 You’re referring to Hypermobile EDS (hEDS). It’s the most common form. The show, however, is referring to either Cardiac-valvular EDS (cvEDS), or Vascular EDS (vEDS).
Both are rare. Both cause skin issues. Both can be very deadly to children. And they also require full-time care. Though it’s not specified, cvEDS is more likely to be the case for the child in question, as it does result in extremely thin, fragile skin.
It’s important to remember: just because you, personally, haven’t heard of something doesn’t mean the information being presented is automatically false.

I am pro-life, but it blows my mind that some people are so far pro-life that they are actually pro-death. Pro-life should mean that you advocate for ALL lives, including the person carrying the child. Pro-life should mean giving free contraceptives to everyone, including the poor and minorities. And we need free healthcare and easy access to healthcare. Parents should be able to get paid maternity and paternity leave for more than a few weeks. And we need to do something about the high mortality rate during child birth for the pregnant individual and the baby. A person's rights to proper healthcare to prevent pregnancy or to have a safe pregnancy shouldn't be based on how much money is in their bank account, the color of their skin, their culture, or the God they pray to (or don't pray to).
Especially the high mortality rate for childbirth, I feel like it’s not talked about enough and a big reason why many want to have an abortion, because why risk your life for a kid you don’t want/can’t have yet. And many anti abortion bans have killed so many mothers in childbirth since the doctors aren’t allowed to have the mother have an abortion during life threatening situation until the mother is actively dying (case in island for example that ended the abortion ban). That’s one big reason why I’ll always be pro choice.
However I’m from Sweden and in our country almost everything you listed is a reality and I think the anti or pro abortion can be talked about in an actual reasonable conversation but in the us when they don’t support mothers or free birth control or guaranteed maternity leave (so much more) it’s an absolute no and abortion should be accessible

I have ehlers danlos syndrome. I've lived a normal until the last few years. Now i have daily joint dislocations, mast cell activation syndrome, gastroparesis and heart issues. But I was able to live a normal life up until my late 20s when I started having more serious health issues. I got injured a lot as a kid. I've got a 5 year old son and even though I now have a lot of issues and weekly specialist and physio appointment and losing my mobility as well as chronic pain I'm still happy and appreciate so much my better years but I'd give my left arm and leg to still be alive even with all the health issues

Pro-life is just another way of saying anti-murder. Killing is not necessarily wrong, but murder is always wrong. For example, killing a serial killer doctor is not wrong, but murdering innocent babies is.

As the other commenter said, with genetic testing it can be diagnosed in the womb. Heart defects and other deformities can also be seen in the womb. Depending on the results of the genetic testing, yes you can have a good idea of what the skin fragility will be. It could be that they meant EB instead of EDS. My skin is not as fragile as an EB sufferers, but seams in clothing can cause friction sores that get infected. My scars can rupture with pressure. I have vascular EDS. This comment section is full of people with milder forms being outraged at this. It's just a representation of the more severe forms if anything, which DOES NOT misrepresent EDS as a whole. Until recently, only the more severe forms of EDS were even diagnosed. Not the bullshit we have now where if you're hypermobile you've now got a genetic condition 🤦
The show said the child was diagnosed after an ultrasound. An ultrasound may show certain defects, that EDS could cause. But those could also be caused by other conditions. To decide to test for EDS before birth. Would be expensive, to say the least. Also why would the test for EDS. If it wasn’t in the family history? They can’t test for all possible disorders and conditions that case the defects seen in the scan.
They also could not possibly say how EDS would affect the child. Even if the did have a positive genetic result.
Not to mention that not all forms of EDS have been identified on the genome.
I also believe it is still considered risky to do a genetic test on a unborn child. Because of the disruption to the uterus. But technology may have gotten better since I had my child. This is however an old episode. So likely the same age as my child.Also, was EDS even found on the genome when this show aired? I had to have a clinical diagnosis. Because they still haven’t found my forms genetic markers.

That said, you don't have to face an early death like I do. vEDS simply is the more severe/dangerous form compared to hEDS. I know of no doctors versed in this condition that would argue otherwise. Your joint problems may be severe, but that is not LETHAL. vEDS and hEDS are two drastically different diseases when it comes down to it. When my condition more accurately matches what is being described in a show, I would think my opinion on the matter should well, matter. I'd never willingly get pregnant and pass these genes on. I will NOT be handing down a death sentence and my life is hell, made even more so by doctors who only know of hEDS and put my life at risk by not following precautions for vEDS pts. I regularly run into people like you who get offended for stating the facts of our condition and it's different types. I'm terminally ill ontop of vEDS, almost saw my father die from aortic dissection and have seen my sister have multiple failed surgeries due to vEDS. Keep clutching your pearls, it doesn't matter to me, your non lethal condition gets allllllll the research funding, hope they find a cure soon for being offended xx

I had to pause when I heard him say Ehlers Danlos syndrome, the very syndrome I have lmao. They didn't specify type but I have hEDS, and I do get smaller skin tears but only on my lower back which is burned due to heating pad usage for chronic pain. It's not a scary illness, just quite a bit annoying to live with depending on how unlucky you are with symptoms.
I did a double take when he said that. I also have hEDS and I was so confused when they acted like it was a death sentence. I agree though, EDS is a huge annoyance, but I wouldn’t go as far as saying it’s an automatic death sentence.

Ehlers-Danlos syndrome does not cause that. It's a connective tissue disorder that causes joint issues (among other things) and it can't be diagnosed in a fetus. It can't even be diagnosed in infants or toddlers as far as I've seen. They meant epidermolysis bullosa (otherwise known as butterfly skin disease). Both can cause skin issues but only one is as severe as they are saying. They got EDS and EB mixed up.

I don’t think ehlers danlos syndrome would cause the babies skin to fall off at the slightest touch. My voice teacher has EDS? Sure she’s had 2 hip surgeries by the age of 35 but her skin is perfectly fine. Stretchy skin and weak joints is EDS, but the extremely weak skin is epidermolysis bullosa.
