@@talynhastime9343 Nah, it´s just plain and simple: "What will the family think, what will the neighbours think." These fathers and brothers are just fragile. They have to define their "honor" by the virtue of their daughters and sisters. It´s simple as that, instead of "enduring" the "humiliation". It´s not different then an american husband killing his wife, after finding out she cheated on him. All these "cultural" rationalizings are nothing more but excuses, because there are million of examples in these cultures, were the outcome is different then murdering the "dishonoroable" woman.

This is actually based on a real case that happened in the US. Middle Eastern daughter loved someone her father didn't approve of so he and her brothers murdered her. When they were arrested they cried racism because they said the Honor Killing was protected by their 1st amendment as a part of their culture. They were convicted and sentenced to life in prison. It earned some Infamy about 12 years back again because the family said it was part of their culture and at the time some activists were defending them.

I would like to just emphasize that "honor killings" are not a religious concept, but a horrendous, cultural concept. This act actually occurs in many cultural communities regardless of religious background, Christian communities in some African nations, Hindu communities in South Asian nations - this is a horrendous, cultural phenomenon, unfortunately. Many of you all in the comments are aligning this with Islam which is just could not be further from the truth, as the Quran says, "the killing of one soul is like the killing of all humanity and saving one soul is like saving all humanity."

You make a good point. In these modern times, the Middle East and Islam are stained with the actions of minority extremists and sociopaths that hide behind alleged religious ideals. The only difference with that and the Christian Crusades, Inquisition, etc is that Islam's narcissistic extremists rose to power in more recent times. Just research the Middle East and the culture in the 1960's and 70's, the entire region mirrored the USA and much of Europe in the fashion, environment, and cultural norms. It was the 1980's that the extremists drug the country and the religion through the mud and set them both back hundreds of years.
