  • The Kia Carnival and Toyota Innova Crysta might make up the premium MPV segment but these models are not like-for-like alternatives of one another. Large difference in price aside, the MPVs also differ in size, power and even how they're put together. Gavin d'Souza and Nikhil Bhatia contrast the two models to help you pick the right one for your needs.

I own a Carnival Limo. It’s the first time I went for a MPV after driving SUV’s and only Toyotas (Lexus / Landcruiser) for 15 years. Pleased to share that I am very happy with everything with the Carnival. It handles the rough roads very well the suspension works like a dream. Went over some realy nasty roads enroute to Manali and the car never scraped, touched any rocks underneath it was rather impressive as I was not expecting this level of performance on realy rough rocky roads. The amount of space inside is insane. Even the last row you are chilling comfortably. The engine is putting out the same torque as a Fortuner and puts out 440nm torque and 200BHP. Buy it guys you will be very happy.

I Am an Innova Owner 2012
And now recently bought the kia Carnival limousine variant
A few things i liked to say
Just because innova has a good reliability doesn't mean the Carnival Cannot we should give this car time and then comment in its reliability.
In terms of the feature there is just no match kia is the winner.
When you look at both of the cars from outside carnival looks good from front and side but its rear design isn't appealing that said
When you enter the car the outer views won't matter to you as the car looks beautifully built from the inside and for long journey's its just appropriate.
I know kia isn't established in India but then carnival is 22 years old car in the world and it's been quite successful.
    P.s
For anyone confused between buying Fortuner or endeavour or carnival
My whole point of buying kia was that its has a business class image also
Fortuner and Endeavour are owned buy either politicians or contractors
So It was a very easy choice for me choosing the carnival.
    Gloster is made in china.

It's a different product altogether. The endeavour can fit only 6 people at max but the carnival can seat between 7-9 people with ease at a given point of time. Carnival has a way bigger boot size and honestly, it is hard to believe but the endeavour has a lighter engine than the carnival. People will choose the carnival instead of the endeavour I feel. People always forget about reliability.....Kia’s service and delivery operations are very poor.....and the gearbox will heat up for sure.....in the long run the Innova gets the job done and also you can spend that extra 10 lakhs on equipments or a 2nd hand luxury car....Toyota got your back on the long run but if you don’t travel that much, well you can try the Kia.....but mind you Kia ain’t a daily....it’s a lot of struggle.....Innova stays better with the sales and service....and the resales are better. Choose wisely (it depends on your usage)

I think Toyota should make a new generation Innova

Hats off to you guys for a truly no-nonsense and crisp review/comparo of the Innova and Carnival. Autocar reviews are always good quality.
But the Achilles heel of the Carnival is its dismal ground clearance of only 17cm (170mm) and the Front wheel drive.
Well, Kia cannot make the Carnival a rear-wheel-drive thats for sure, but, come-on Kia Motors! is it that hard to realize that 170 mm ground clearance for such a long wheelbase vehicle with a full load of passengers and luggage on Indian roads is going to scrape every speed breaker and at the front and rear on inclines. Higher ground clearance is definitely required to get the confidence to take the Carnival on long tours and bad roads (not off-road). Also restyle the bumpers to reduce the front and rear-overhangs to avoid scraping.
Kia Motors, please give the Carnival atleast 220mm ground clearance and only then it will be a practical touring vehicle on Indian roads. Even better if you can offer an All-Wheel-Drive variant, after all, a FWD for such a long vehicle is going to be difficult or less confidence inspiring on hilly areas.
The Innova with its rear-wheel drive and higher ground clearance and ladder on frame build is simply the better and practical touring vehicle out of the two.

Innova has the more premium appeal than kia carnival.

Definetely the Toyota innova because of the
ownership cost and also the reliability. Though the cost is more. It is the best.

On our dingy tight roads the Toyota can actually be used as a daily driver ,can't say the same for the carnival .

I feel japanese cars are low on features compared to Chinese or korean cars. At this price point they should be offering a lot more. And the designs too are very old school!
