Majority of "large" families in India are not financially large
when Renuka is behind the wheel the seats look like a throne whereas when Nikhil switches places it looks like a stool with a backrest (...just on a lighter note)
now on a serious note .... both these Autocar journos are brilliant...in fact the whole lot of them...
8:41 That Lodgy is the real star of the show. The fact that it's been in the Autocar fleet for so long is a testament to it's reliability. Pity it didn't quite hit it off with Indian buyers.
Maruti Diesel Ertiga and Brezza are killer of many car models in India. Brezza killed Eco Sports sales, Ertiga killed all MPVs sales.
If Maruti came with Diesel again it will chew other brands once again but they can't meet BS VI.
Other brands should capitalize on this.
The third row superbly impressive. Didn't expect this
This is the real deal, the search for a complete Family Vehicle with 3rd row given the importance needed . Good addition to your line up Kia, Hats off👍🏽

Finally a car with practical third row instead of just "having a third row" tag. Truly a car renaissance. Panoramic sunroof would have been icing on the cake!
Am I the only one who finds the car's styling to be a bit off?

I wont lie, this car does feel like a rounded package, but it needs to be tested by Global NCAP to see whether is it true what Kia claims that it has advanced high strength steel used in the structure.
This car is going to sell like chhole kulche on a cold Delhi afternoon. Yup, they've got a winner..all down to pricing.

DRLs are catchy and looks spacious against rivals
Carens is a prime example of how good market competition benefits the customers. All the segments under 20lakhs are really hot and carmakers are trying to one-up on their competition constantly. Kia is leading from the front.

It deserved the 2.0L engine and bigger rims
So a person who wants a Kia under 20 Lakhs can choose from a fully loaded Sonet, mid level Seltos or a Carens! Bigger alloys and at least one 2.0L powertrain would've been the cherry on the cake.
Kia giving it everything to outsell the Venue, Creta and Alcazar. Irrespective of all that, I still feel the Hyundai Tucson is a hidden gem/grossly underrated.
Interesting proportions? Or maybe the Carens needed better groundclearance/height/bigger tyres? Very pretty interiors. More than functional third row and a superb middle row.
Can't believe that this Family Car will be under 20 lakhs...

Best Interior I have seen in recent times
The cabin space is really impressive. The major turn off is the Diesel engine and to some point the front wheel drive set up where the Innova shines. Another major turn off factor is the name itself. I can live with the looks which are a personal choice but isn’t striking at all.
In place of a TGDI with DCT they should have provided a 2.0 L diesel with 6 speed manual.

Kia should have upped the game by giving 2 litre diesel and petrol. It would have been a little better in terms of performance. The dog came in the middle to check if Kia provided the correct engine combination.😅😅😅😅😅

Well, Carens and Ertiga is what people are talking about the most, but very rarely you see them mention about Marazzo, which is by far the best among these vehicles when it comes to NVH, Engine, safety and highway manners.

The engine feels so strained considering the 1.5 Diesel will be the most buyers choice. Surprising to know on what way did that 1.5 petrol will perform! Even before a decade I really appreciate what Toyota has done with its bread which never feels strained and it lasts even now and proved all its mile munching capability..🙌

Hello Renuka,great review thank you for all the efforts. I am looking for automatic and confused about the engine to select, Diesel/1.4 Petrol DCT automatic which one you suggest? Considering 7 people in the cabin, I am looking for an automatic engine which can effortlessly pull the load (city,highways & ghat section). Iam not keen on the milage that it gives.
Most cars reviews nowadays suggest to drive with a gentle foot, especially in the Indian market.
Makes me very very sad the Indian market is getting boring powertrains.
Toyota really needs to up their game !

Third row is something really that will appeal buyer's who are considering to go in for a Alcazar or a Ertiga and Kia has loaded the car with lot of features even safety wise

6kmpl mileage for the dct turbo 1.4.. diesel is the best pick with decent drivability and mileage

Good analysis!!! However I wonder why is this being compared with Alcazar and not XUV700 or a safari....
Powertrain options are also quite good. Turbo petrol and diesel would be good option for buyers. Although I would refrain from going towards DCT from hyundai kia as they are not so reliable and have had their issues in the past.
Am impressed with the third row. 😱 Now to price is something that I look cautiously.. before I go with it.
At 2:46 the time was 10:25 and at 3:10 the time is 10:24 on car screen.4:53 time become 10:20
Which means inside the car....time works backward.

@ 9:38 the third row looks so spacious. Till now ertiga and safari had the best 3rd row but this seems to be so much better. Hopefully this should score a minimum 4 star safety rating with a stable body shell and it will be perfect!

I wish this comes in CNG varient as well innear future as this could be a great competitor considering its 9lac or so price tag ex showroom.

The second row seats adjustable is very impressive and looking beautiful
Pleased to see a practical review of the 3rd row, some just try to cry foul whereas the standards of a 3rd row are extremely different than 1st and 2nd row, also happy to see generous space there specifically comparing it to the Alcazar which is more expensive.
Please update about body build quality. Is strong enough or cheap like Seltos & Sonet.
If Carens pricing is near to Ertiga or xl6 then huge hit, if it plans at starting range 18 L budget would be tough to shine as power is less for its pricing, plus now catchy word people look out is safety NCAP ratings will wait for results, Hope Indian buyers are profited by these Healthy car competitors.

I've lost trust in the Korean Sisters.
They give expensive cars that are not safe.
Even Suzuki has Brezza and S-Cross but Kia and Hyundai don't have anything to show.
I would definitely wait for GNCAP rating.

The only point I don’t understand is why no reviewer points out that Caren’s don’t need add blue for diesel and all other diesel cars require add blue and life with out add blue is so simple..
few questions, 1. What about white fog lamps which does not work at all in Foggy time. No provision for fixing external fog light. 2. 360 deg camera. aodn 3rd 4wheel options if available
The most challenging thing with 3 rows MVPs is bootsapce management.

Am keep hearing the AC condensation issue with Carens, is it resolved? Not sure whether to go with Carens with this issue still open?
