  • In this video I talk about tips on how to use a string trimmer - weedeater to edge my properties. I use the echo 2620 but the fundamentals are universal and can be used with any weedeater. I go over topic such as how to hold the weedeater, throttle control, what direction you should go, how to avoid key problems.

Quick question, What gauge of line are you using? I am not getting near the distant that you get. I will study your technique and tips but that's the only issue i am having, I am using was too much line.
    Thx and nice work.

It will probably take me a few videos talking about tips and techniques before I can explain it really good through video. 🤘😎 Thanks for the support of the channel!!!

I will add that the more you edge this way the less string you will use.....but most of the time if you are eating be up a bunch of string it come down to a few things.
      1. soil condition - (if the ground is rock solid)
      2. Throttle speed - find a happy spot where is gets the job done really nice for me that's about half throttle
      3. How much you are going through. If there is a bonch of over growth it will bee more difficult and it's going to eat it up
      4. Try to hug the string without hitting the top of the concrete
      5. Depth try to keep the head elevated to where the string is deep enough to make a good Grove but just gliding through the edge not digging. The more you dig the more it eats up.
      That's alot but I hope that helps🤘😎💯

If you have a stick edger use it, that way you will not have a grand canyon between the sidewalk and grass.

I am a home owner and I have been watching your videos since July 2022. I tried for the first time in September to use my weed eater to trim my walks along the front of my house and between the cracks in the walk ways. I did so so but I know that I should get better with time and practice. I think your videos provide good instructions. Thank you!

I used to be the same way, now I'm full weed eater to edge, unless it's a new property with overgrown edge. Then I will use the edger to clean that up. It's so much faster using the weed eater and in my opinion it looks better. Like he said though, it's easy to mess the edge up and I still do from time to time. You get to going so fast sometimes you come off the line and widen a spot up, but it still looks good. Practice and you will get comfortable with it. I will try to make some video of it this year too.

Lawn Care Juggernaut I’ve found that the edgers tear up the ground quite a bit more than the string trimmers.

  • @topflightlawncarelandscape316

I use the same echo and its is my favorite. I edge pretty much the same way walking backward to throw debris away from me except I hold it just if I were weed eating and I stand on the grass so I can hug the concrete, acts as a guide for edging straighter. I also walk backward while weed eating going from right to left to throw grass away from house, fence, etc so I can mow it with the mower. This gives the grass a neat, clean look. One thing I do that I notice you don't is I top the grass after edging it to give it a clean sharp look, this is usually where the deck of the mower doesnt get. Great videos, just found you a few weeks back.

Using this on residential smallish property.2 x (25ft x 25ft) Front and back. I currently use Black & Decker Bullhog (Electric corded) . Now looking at a new trimmer any suggestion on a budget. If it's just around the house small jobs, a company called it works makes a battery powered all on one weedeater and edger thats not as powerful as a gas one which, as an amateur or just somebody at home youbsint need power. The smaller the job the less power for a weedeater. Thays because it's easy to gage a lawn and mess up details when you're running more power then you are used to so I recommend starting with something small and cheap battery power for around the house but for profession work outside your own yard or if you hard a yard with a lot of weeds and stuff that's rough get something bigger but if you're just trimming your grass at home I recommend an all in one battery powered edger and weedeater combo

Don't say "using a string trimmer is the way to go" when edging a lawn. It is not, but for you maybe. Look at the gap that you have between the sidewalk and the grass. When you walk as fast as you did using a string trimmer, you cannot keep the string tight to the edge of the sidewalk preventing creating a grand canyon. With a stick edger you can keep the blade close to the sidewalk preventing a huge gap which i think is not attractive. You might be right that a stick edger is not any faster than a string trimmer as you use it, but it is faster if you slow down and not create a huge gap in the grass. There are times that using a string trimmer is better when you are cutting certain weeds like stings of bermuda, they some how slip by a stick edger. I am not suggesting not ever using string trimmer. But if that is what you prefer, fine.
