Nick: I need a spoon 🥄
Also Nick: grabs a pair of scissors ✂️
Just my thoughts that moment... XD
You beat me to it, right down to the meme-format I was going to use. 😂
Proof that Nick is like everybody else; can't be arsed to do the right thing and just makes do with whatever's on hand instead. I did that just a few minutes ago, using a vice-grip to open a nut instead of going downstairs to get a wrench. 🤷
Should have made a resin handle out of the coconut fibers
You really don’t need a handle, or maybe you need two😂😂
I mean that trying to be funny, not trying to be harsh, just so I’m clear, I need a two handled cup some days , and I’m jealous I can’t make anything but bills
Yes that's a missed opportunity! 😂
I was thinking he needed a handle, but I was just carving a piece of cedar. Your idea about the resin sounds a lot better.
Is it okay to put a little paper umbrella in your coffee? It would definitely complete the look! ⛱️
Agreed!
I think an umbrella would be perfect!
What and drink the coffee/tea through a straw
@@rickiesrocket 🤔😆
I’d just use it as a cocktail glass!
So happy you did not sample that coconut. It looked horrible, so I can only imagine the smell. Love the look of that mug.
Same here! As chaotic as he can be I just don't think it looks safe anymore unless it's cooked
Huh....Just made a comment about waste lol. Should have waited and watched
Also, Coconut coffee actually sounds delicious
It was spoiled. Fresh coconuts are white, fresh, and smells good. I would sterilize that shell and let dry in sun to clean it and get the stink out of it.
It would be funny if the coconut milk turned to coconut butter from all that spinning.
Really cool coffee mug. Gilligan would be proud. “Thanks little buddy!” For another fun video.
Spoiled coconut water dripping on the floor.
My brain: This is how you get ants.
Or stink out your workshop....
Try using green (unripe) coconuts. The shell has a lighter color (could use a torch to make it darker), but the pulp slides out much easier… and it actually tastes good!
it wouldn't last. thin shells crack super easy.
You could sell those, but make sure the cup is glued on straight first as it looks a little wonky and that's doing my head in😂. But seriously, it's definitely a cool idea. I'd probably use them more for cold drinks, maybe cocktails🍹
I think it is straight, the surface just looks odd.
I though so too but it’s just the “pattern” on the shell that’s causing the effect. It is straight.
I think it's wonky on purpose, as its actually supposed to be if I'm not mistaken. I mean, that's classic Nick and im totally here for it.
😂😂😂
Love it. Needs a handle to be a coffee mug. Without one, it looks more like a wine glass 🍷. Love you, nick and all your videos
I would personally love it if it was even wonkier. The mug looks big enough for it that it wouldn't spill, and the asymmetry looks good!
More than fifty years ago, I helped my Dad turning coconuts into bowls - some of them with lids, some open. We sometimes used small round brass knobs as legs, if we didn't use the top as you did. If I remember correctly, cutting them open wasn't always easy and sometimes the hull would splinter and break apart and become unusable. I think that's when we used the little brass knobs ...
Was fun seeing this done again!
Great… if you’re 10yeats old 🫤
@@WhackBytch256 I think that's about correct 😉 - closer to 60 years then ...
As a kid I had a little coconut purse. They did what you did, but they drilled little holes and joined the little lid on with with string. They painted on pretty flowers and lined it with cheap fabric. I loved that little purse!
Find another coconut to make a handle, then you can call it a coffee mug, it would be unique.
Also, according to an episode of Brooklyn 99, it would be very hot to handle the cup with a hot beverage.
@@nynkevandijk3187 wood insulates good. Besides I hold the mug not the handle when I drink coffee. Besides if it is not hot enough to blister your mouth it is not going to blister your hands through the cup.
Great video, Nick. This is what I love about your channel, the mix of big, intense projects and smaller, creative projects. I love how this coffee mug turned out.
I appreciate that!
I can already tell this is going to be epic!! Love the coconuts 💜
I love Nick arguing with his intrusive thoughts about eating the old pulp
It's not pulp, it's coconut meat, you all been drinking out of cans too much, if you pour the water out of a cleanly opened coco there is no "pulp" ... The marketing companies chop up coconut meat and mix it in the water and call it pulp, quit dumbing yourself and the rest of the world down.
Yeah! Literally no one telling him to eat it, but he was saying "stop telling me to eat it. I'm not eating it!" 😂
@@davedavem as his son or wife are behind the camera telling him to eat it 😶... Definitely couldn't be a possibility, only logical explanation is he is arguing inside his own head, obviously.
My first thought on seeing how soft the meat inside had gotten was, "Blech! Open a window!"
I mean tbf if he didnt mention how he wasnt gonna eat it because it smelled rancid and old, comments wouldve been saying he shouldve ate it on camera 😂
Would be perfect for a themed party mug. Or just for summer time in the garden.
I love it! 🥥🎉
So glad you didn't dare eat the old coconut guts - there's a whole chubby emu video on what happens if you take that kind of chance lol
I also thought about that episode.
Lol that’s exactly what I thought about too.
The ever burning question...okay so he's cute, but can he wash dishes?
🥥🥥🥥🥥🥥🥥🥥🥥🥥
You were lucky to have the Lathe. I did mine all be hand. I cut my cap down to halfway the a cap so I had a ring for the main piece to sit on, and glued them together. I heated them up then rubbed in corn oil to seal it all. Made one nice soup bowl as a parting gift for my friend.
I enjoy watching you work. I learn something new each time.
Hi Nick, this mug is very common here in Brazil, most often at North and Northeast regions.
It is called as coconut cuia or coconut coité.
Looks good! I would consider cutting the “lid” again, and use the resulting ring for the base. It would be lower profile and probably more stable, plus I think the glue would hold better over time.
That's a great idea!
Fermented coconut and it's water is fine, it's like any other fermented food, as long as you made the first oxygen break , if there was a crack and it rotted then it would definitely not be good to digest
That's terrible advice
@@ApexHerbivore I live in Hawaii bud, I know how coconuts work
@@Burn77oas7 Apparently not. They can go rancid just like any other foodstuff. I bet you NEVER eat them at that stage
A set of these on your patio for summer slush drinks? Be amazing!
😂😂😂 It smells disgusting, and you keep smelling it!!! Mr. Nick, I thought I was the only weirdo that did things like that!!!! 😂😂😂
I love the mug, very cute!!!
I think it’s a guy thing! 😄
Love to see different things made from natural objects! Looks kind of like a desert cup! ❤
I have never seen a coconut that I wanted to eat and drink less than that one when you cracked it open!!
Tropical! Love it, Nick!!!
❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I would love a cup like that for my coffee.
Also...anyone else wanna vote Nick as world's most handsome man??? I KNOW I'm not the only one 😊❤
Well, Monty Python made horses out of coconuts so I don't see any issue with making a coffee mug out of one...
The Pythons missed a marketing opportunity there: I reckon pairs of ‘Clip Clop Cups’ would’ve sold well as Grail merch. Is it too horrible a pun to say “food for thought”?
I would have to have a Pina colada, or a Bahama mamma in it! It does look pretty cool, Nick!!
That's a fab cup. :) I love it without a handle.
Nick, being English I would have thought you'd made millions of tea drinking vessels 😅
Great work as usual Nick, love it! ❤
Absolutely love it, Nick! I was wondering how you were gonna make it stand up, and I hadn't even considered using the 'lid' as a base!
You are a joy to watch Nick. 🤗 You do so many clever, unique, quirky, and beautiful projects. I like your mug and the coffee mug is not bad either. 😂
The pattern on the coconut would make pretty necklace pendants I bet.
Blessings to you and yours. 🙏🏽💓
I would've drained the "milk" out first and used a fresher one, added a handle. But, you have spawned some ideas with my turning. You crazy man.
It's actually coconut water.
The best wood turning videos have no narration.
Ahhh yeah buddy, Nick is back!!!! Already hit like, now time to be amazed.
Fun fact....smell = tiny molecules of what you are smelling, traveling up into your head to stimulate olfactory nerves...😮
In the 18th and 19th centuries coconut cups were a rare and distinctive display of wealth because it showed you could afford to travel to remote and exotic places. Many were mounted in silver to reflect their rarity and perceived worth and for that reason, many more survive today than one might expect and regularly come up for sale. Interesting to see a modern craftsman reviving such an old skill.
Our ancestors used to make cups, coffee mugs, bowls, spoons, forks and jewelry with coconut shells.
It takes more time but the beauty is the ancestral symbols that we adorn them with.
Nice! I think it would look awesome with gold leaf plating inside! The golden shimmer would complement the dark outside just perfectly.
Why was this more nauseating than watching actual pimple popping videos? My brain is not braining! LOL 😂 Love your work as always, Nick! 🥥🥥🥥
I had my moments when he was cleaning out the pulp.
I thought this idea was nuts but it turned out ace 😆
Can’t beat some coconut content 👍🏻
Yeah I hope so but the idea is kinda nuts
☕ A nutty cuppa coffee! Noice!
GREAT JOB NICK!!!! It's a bit CROOKED, but it still is COOL!!!!
This is the way that we used to process these when I was in the Pacific Islands…. No lathe though, just hand tools, hard work and some bottle assistance…. Then these would last ages as a drinking vessel. The “lid” would be added to the base to make a more stable cup. I miss my mug, and it was handmade over 25 years ago…
Needs a tropical drink in there!
I was flinching the whole time! Thought it would pop off. Love the cup!
I'm with the Handle People, but that's just me. When I was a teen I made a container out of a coconut shell. Same process but without a lathe and all sanding by hand. I made the cut at the top a little deeper so I could use it as a lid. I made a hinge out of leather thong (rawhide string) and a two-bit closure on the front with the same bits. My parents were so proud of me! I used that thing as a little jewelry box for decades. I don't recall what ever happened to it but I loved that thing. It was a rotund shape, really cute. I like yours!! I've just recently purchased two coconut bowls that I use when camping, for cereal or soup.
Freezing coconut's first makes it so much easier to get the meat out.
It turned out great, it's so beautiful.
Every single time that I see a new project I go 😮 wow that's amazing
That's a cool modern art looking cup
Never would have thought of that idea. Pretty cool.
Weird and useful, my two favorite things!
Definitely worthy of a Gilligan's Island seal of approval!
As soon as i saw the thumbnail, i wanted it!😊❤
I love this!! You're always so creative ❤ please colab with Evan and Kaitlyn
Your videos make me happy.
Now that funky.
Now that’s a cool looking mug
What a fun project!
Yeah, that's pretty darn cool.
It’s adorable.
That turned out really cool, Nick.
Sprouted coconuts are like cotton candy
That’s bloody brilliant!
When I was a kid back in the 60’s we went on vacation to Florida and my father being very tall climbed up the palm trees and got us fresh coconuts and let me just say you will never get anything better then fresh coconut juice and fresh coconut!¡!¡!¡!¡!¡
Wow was that good!!!!!!!!!! 👽
Simple, yet great idea!
Always a pleasure seeing you
This is a really cool idea. Would be a cool set for a D&D group.
I absolutely love that cup! I would use that cup every single day
never would have thought of this idea. Pretty cool!
I can totally see you cleaning a coconut like that and setting it in resin and turning a cup around the coconut shell
Brilliance just Brilliance 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
So excited to see this come up on my feed!
It looks beautiful
A full set would look great and unlikely to break. Very stylish. Larger would make great soup bowls.
Definitely a cool cup of coffee mug... would buy that in a heart beat...
The mug is beautiful, you are a magician.
That is adorable!
So excited that you posted another video. Me and my kids always get so excited every time you post a video. We love all your videos and think that you have a awesome personality. Can't wait to see what you come up with next. I totally love the coffee mug!❤❤
If you have another coconut you can make one into a little jewelry box. Think Ariel and a little mermaid
Very cool. I must admit though, I'd be more inclined to use it for rum cocktails....😉😉
I absolutely love the texture of coconut shell. 🥥 It's fun to use to make all sorts of arts and crafts
I like the color of the cup!
Love this mug!
Fun project, totally love it.
That is really clever! I'm so glad that you didn't taste that spoiled coconut.
Nick does it again!!! You Rock!!!
I want it.. lol. I love coconut and and I love coffee.
I'm loving it!
Love the Marty tattoo! The coconut cup looks great. My daughter says it needs a handle!
I've always wanted a coconut cup
Ooohh! How about getting a piece of rope, soak it in resin and shape it as the handle! ❤☕🥥
Lovely work Nick!
This is so sick! I want a coconut coffee mug now. lol
My kind of creator!
Love this so very much!
I'd love a set of those Coconut Mugs... adding a handle would be great!
