- With all of April's Jumping Progression over the past few months, I started to notice she was starting to have some some harsher landings on the bigger jumps. In this video we go over a few ways to absorb those landings with your body and try to get April landing as smooth as possible!

3) send to girlfriend before we ride today!
My routine as well :)
4) order more mtb gear.
First of all thank you guys for all the support this past year, it's been so much fun watching April progress and getting to ride with her more and more. Honestly your support and positivity has helped inspire both of us more than you will ever know. We really hope you enjoy this video and get a chance to practice landing softer, this skill is one of the ones few people focus on, but really good riders always have a way of smoothing things out and really absorbing impacts with their body. If you have any questions at all let us know! Also just incase people ask, here is the ramp we used in the video - bit.ly/3zjaArM . Mtb Hopper was nice enough to send us this one to try out but like we said in the video a curb or curb cut is a great way to practice and that's how I learned at first :)
Kyle
more power for both of you guys. I saw the Niner hardtail. I hope I could find a distributor here in the Philippines. Good luck and Stay safe.
Heyyy my dear friend,I sent a business inquiry email to you already! Let me know if you recieved it successfully from lettyswift525@gmail.com😊
Really like that you did this on hard tails. I ride a hard tail and it's tough to find videos on learning drops and landings on a hard tail. Thanks for the great video!
Glad it was helpful! We are trying to include more hard tail when we can 😊
This video is extremely relevant. This channel has one of the most comprehensive mtb guides ever. Love it
Thank you so much! 🥺😁
Great advice thanks
Agreed! I feel the same way! Awesome job!!
Absolutely, all these videos have been super helpful. Y’all have a great chemistry and energy. 🙏
I’m 65, new to mountain biking and really enjoy learning from your videos. You guys taking the time to break things down whether it be landing softly in jumps, riding position, braking or whatever your teaching helps immensely. Thanks so much Kyle and April, you two are an inspiration!
Glad to help 😊
Incredible progress! Watching the footage of Kyle vs. April closely, I think the biggest remaining difference is that Kyle lands with his legs very close to straight, maximizing the suspension effect of his legs, while April is contacting the ground a little more tucked which limits how much she can absorb the impact.
Great catch John! Yeah maximizing leg travel is really helpful for those super soft landings!
This is truly one of the best MTB channels on CZcams for those wanting to hone their skills. Kyle's great instruction and April's steady progression are incredibly helpful.
Thank you so much!!! 😊
So cool, I have found your channel, me and my son we are just starting little jumps. Your video came right on time! :)
Great video, really helpful. Your approach to these how-to videos is so thoughtful and thorough - I find them much more useful than others I have watched. Thanks!
Such a great tip. Known what I'll work on next time I get the ramp out
Truly the best video out there for landing. Thank you
This video is so awesome. Praying that Kyle is doing better
Again, nice video from you guys. I just love it when April thanks Kyle. 😁😍
Great breakdown of the landing! Good tips with the timing. Looking forward to a breakdown a whip jump🔥
I really enjoy the debrief on these skills videos. I think Kyle’s coaching style is highly effective, he is teaching the rider to do a self-evaluation. Informative and entertaining.
Thank you so much for this video! I love jumping things but I keep landing too hard and hurting my ankles. I’ve been afraid to hit the bigger jumps since but this is just the help I needed. 😊
Thank you both for the tutorial videos. Being brand new to mountain biking and seeing the absolute highs of the coolest jumps and the lows of the hardest crashes can be very scary and intimidating. Coming back to your channel grounds me and helps me focus on the baby steps of progression so I don't feel so overwhelmed. The joy and positivity between you two is contagious and makes me excited to get out and try to learn the simplest of skills and go at my own pace. Love your videos!
dude... You are an amazing teacher. I am just stunned with how much progress April did this year alone. OMG i'm so jealous. :P
This is the first video I've seen that was about landing smoother. I ride a hardtail, luckily I came to the conclusion early on that I need to use my body as extra suspension. Glad someone made a video about smoother landing.
This channel is packed with such great information. Thank you both!
Thank you, glad you are getting value from our videos! :)
And another great video you two!
I love the idea of this video, a great fundamental skill to master.
April's a smooth cat now!
Awesome job guys.
Haha thanks Peter! I was dying when she said she was a heavy cat haha
Great videos!!! Love the content
Yet another great video! Can't wait to practice softer landings. And, as always, I really appreciate the positivity of your presentation and the healthy dynamic you two have as a couple!
Thanks so much Wayne! Its been a lot of fun sharing these with you guys! April and I definitely have our ups and downs but i think at the end of the day we just try to treat each other as best friends and that has been the cornerstone of us being together :)
thanks you two, i always come away with something to work on after watching. your vibes, knowledge and skills are greatly appreciated!
Glad the videos are always helpful!
Great video as usual ⚖🐈⬛ lol
"Be as one with the bike " the best advice ever I've heard so many times
Thank you!!! 😊
Video idea 3) trail etiquette. Yielding on 2 way trails. How to pass or be passed. Etc. phenomenal video as always. 👏👏👏
Loving these how to videos! Best instructionals on youtube!
Glad you like them!
Thanks guys, I really appreciate the videos. I have gained a ton of knowledge.... keep it up!
Thank you! 😊
awesome demo and tips...thanks much!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Glad you enjoyed it!
You are such a good instructor and patient too. I've been re-watching the vids and always find it informative as well as entertaining. I hope you are healing well and able to get on with your life soon. As always, best wishes to you both.
Thank you Susan! 😊
That’s guy that really useful I do not do a lot of jumping but I have had so bad landing and some good now I see why watching April thanks.
Glad it was helpful!!! 😊
I've watched many, many "how to jump" videos and I always felt that the landing aspect was glossed over. Thank you for making a video!
Recently you've been adding April's thoughts on the tips that helped her the most. I really take a lot out of that section.
Thank you, glad you are getting so much out of the videos and my thoughts at the end 😊 -April
Thank you for this video I plan on buying a bike soon and this is some great stuff:)
Glad it was helpful!
I learn a lot every videos that you guys made, you exert efforts to give us a comprehensive, relevant MTB tips and guides. Thank you, more power to your channel.
Thank you! 😊
you have the best tutorials so far,new subscriber here
KEEP SHREDINGGGG
Thank you so much Anziel!
Thanks for your dedication to teaching and awesome content. Seriously great teacher and student combo with great breakdowns from both of you on what your teaching and how the knowledge is absorbed and put into practice. Awesome job from both of you. Love your stuff as always.
Thank you Martin!!!
This is sooooo helpful thanks guys!
Thanks for watching Kelly!
Enjoyed your video today and will keep those items in mind the next time I go riding. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome, glad it was helpful!
Thanks to both of you for these tips / drills vids. I'm an older beginner on a hardtail and your teaching is helping me.
That's so cool to hear Boyd! We love helping people and its been so much fun watching April progress along the way too!
Great video guys, I'll also add that when casing/landing harshly, you can extend both your arms and legs to have more travel! Its like upgrading your legs suspension for free
nice video. it's all about managing the impulse on landing. impulse is just change in momentum. impulse is a combination of force and time, so if you extend the time of the momentum change as you land, as Kyle says, the force will be less. it's the same principle as the airbags in cars.
Spending last few days practicing soft landing at Mammoth Mtn Bike Park. Another great video! 👍
Awesome!!!
Love you guys as your videos are so pragmatic and realistic, like a teacher-student interaction. And April is just the right person to demonstrate that.
Thank you for reminding how to land. 'Stay loose' is the mantra! 🤙
Thank you! 😊
Another good video... Full of great tips.
Thank you Julian! Hope you have a great weekend!
Your vids are super good, not only informative but fun to watch. Kyle, you're a natural teacher and April so willing to send it. Where I live, Nor Cal, there are a lot of steep drops and I'd be pumped to see a video on riding those. Also you're interesting to watch, so more lifestyle mixed in might be cool. Thanks for the content and rubber side down
Thank you so much, we plan to add a little more lifestyle into the videos this summer! 😊
You guys are awesome whatever questions i, have in mind you just answer it wow!
That's great to hear!!! 😊
We get out MTB Hopper ramp today and look forward to working on these landings like you have shown! - great job as usual!!!!!
Awesome, perfect timing!!!! 🥳
Awesome video team 👑👑🙏🙏
This principle is the same in skateboarding and called a press in skate lingo.
Timing and feel.
Stay safe and great work once again 🙏🙏
Thank you! 😊
Your videos have helped me sooo much, went to my first park recently and your videos helped me so much on body position and confidence.
Keep up the great work
That's great to hear 😊😊😊
I’m learning how to ride my bike better day by day all thanks to you I have a mountain bike just like urs it’s very fun thanks
That's great to hear, thank you!!!
Just wanted to say … no matter how bad you are feeling right now please remember that a human body has an incredible ability to heal itself. It might take a while but it will happen. Please don’t give up. You are such a bright person.
We all go through bad things in our lives. They either destroy us or help us to grow. My prayers is with you. Get better ❤️🩹 soon
Awesome vid, thank you. This is something I hadn't really thought much about, but I'm starting to get more air time lately and have had more than a few instances where I could feel that ankle extension in a bad way. I will focus on this my next rides.
Awesome, glad this will help you 😊
Game changer! So simple yet for some reason I never realized I wasn't bending my knees enough upon landing. Thank you!!
Glad it was helpful!
I just wanted to say thanks a lot for these videos. My partner has just got into mountain biking and is learning everything from scratch. These video's have been great for her to see April's progression and let her know that she's more than capable of doing the same!
That's great to hear James, glad we can help her progress too!
Perfect lesson , amazing smiles, thanks.
Thank you! 😃
Great video as usual. After attending a mtb-course a while ago, the squats on flat is a part of my warmup routine.
It is actually a really good warm up! I might have to add it in to get my legs to loosen up 😊
it's not that often when a good 'doer' is also a good teacher :}
wish you the best ride mtb, thanks for being so f nice
Thank you so much!!!
Hey ,you guys are doing such a good job❤💕
Thank you! 😊
I remember when you guys had 100k subs! You’ve come a long way!
Thank you! 😊
Wow this made me much better at jumping thank you🤘🏽❤️
Great to hear!
Quality content like always 🙏
Thank you!!! 😊
Love my Rocky Mountain Growler ht. Aggressive geometry to tackle any trail. I get to feel trail feedback and re tune technique while having fun with the kids or partner.
That so awesome! I love love love a good hardtail! Really hoping to get April out on one more often!
My idol, wow, the technique of small trips number 1 to 5 Thank you brother and sister
🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍😊
You're welcome!
Great instruction. My body is going to be very happy once I get the technique down. Thanks!
Haha yeah! it makes a huge difference!!
Keep it up guys, i love all of your videos 🤘🤘🤘
Thank you!!! 😊
Great tips! This helps me a lot in my progress in mountain biking! Greetings from the Philippines 🇵🇭
Glad to help!
Great subject. I tense up on big features and the result is a harsh landing. I’ve been looking at bmx and trials riders that are experts at the soft landing.
great tutorial, i allways found slightly shifting your weight backwards at the moment of impact helps you concentrate on the knees and save your ankles by turning your down force into a forward force, bmx is a little different, it really is all about timeing, great job april, hope your feeling a bit better kyle
I love watching you two, you're really informative and make me laugh.
Thanks!
@@AprilRideMTB Totally my pleasure. Keep up the great work. I've just got back into mountain biking after 25 years off, and things have changed immensely, so your videos are invaluable. I hope one day to have the B***s to try the stuff April does. Big respect.
Thanks to this video and a ramp I conquered my fear to get off the ground even 1 inch, thanks Kyle and April you guys rock!
Hardtail! Thank you for this, it's what I own and I'm always questioning if I bought the wrong bike. You make it look so easy on these!
Glad to help!
kyle is such a gentleman... And April is always a fast learner...
Thank you!!! 😊
It's true. In all the years of riding at bike parks etc., I never thought about this aspect of landing a jump. I'm pretty sure I'm doing the stiff-legs thing. I'll start working on it tomorrow. Thanks!
Hope it will help!
Amazing watching how far April came, and these are all helpful videos
Glad you think so!
@@AprilRideMTB your soo welcome
Another great, fun video. So much fun.
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
@@AprilRideMTB you guys work really well together. So much fun. When is April going to teach you something? I know she's full of a lot of amazing info.
Great points.👏🏻
Love this video and am buying a hopper ramp
I feel like you guys are mindreaders. Every time I have an issue with something...you’ve made a video on how to fix it! Thanks K and A!!!
Awesome!!! 😊
Great videos as always.
Thank you!!! 😊
This is such a helpful video. This is the first video I've seen that focuses on soft landing using your legs. Makes so much sense, but the focus is on getting the air. Need to practice the end game. #Handycat
Yeah such a huge part of the process! I might have mumbled a little bit but I meant Heavy cat haha 😊
thanks for the tutorials.. stay safe ✌✌✌
Thanks so much Ron!!
Video idea 1) vid dedicated to the feet would be neat. It’s touched on in most videos but guidelines on where on the pedal to place the foot. Toe in toe out. Drop which heel when and with real flex or keep it supple. When you might want to switch the leading foot. Or even how to pedal properly
As a hardtail rider, I absolutely appreciate this!
Thank you! 😊
Thanks!
Nice one!
When I was at school I learnt judo. The first couple of months were mostly learning and practicing how to land: rolling forwards; rolling backwards; left shoulder first; right shoulder first; etc. Stopped you doing silly things like putting your arm out to try and stop the mass of your body from hitting the deck!
That is great practice and I am sure helps with riding in the event of a crash too!
I need to fly Kyle and April over to the UK to be my personal coach. Keep up the great work and now I’m off to practice.
Thank you! 😊
I love your tutorial videos! They are so good! 🤩
Thank you so much!!
@@AprilRideMTB you're welcome! In my eyes, you deserve more than one million subscribers! Have a nice day!☺😇
This channel really thinks about its viewers who wants to learn IMPORTANT things in mtb world. Good job and thank you.👏
Saves us a lot of money on the ridiculous price of mtb schooling
Thank you! 😊
Great idea for a how to
First video in this topic on you tube?
Keep em coming you two
It might be, thank you!!! 😊
I like how much fun you guys have! Thanks for all the great tips and time you put in. Sometimes I like to land without my bike under me..... can you make a video on how to make those landings softer? Just kidding. We haven't had a van update lately.
funny you mention that! Next weeks video is van reveal!!
You guys are awesome!
I have an idea for a video. Getting fitted properly on your bike and on the right size bike. I think so many people, new riders and even people who have been riding a long time (myself included) that aren’t riding either the right size bike for them, or they aren’t setup on their bike properly to ride at their best ability. It would be cool to see how to properly set your seat, stem lengths/heights, bar lengths, etc.. and if your riding the right size bike for your body type.
That's a great idea, thank you!
Thx for this tutorial👍
Yeah no problem at all! Its been something i have been saying to April for months but we never took the time to actually work on it and try to get some improvement! Hopefully it helps!
As always, Kyle is the best skills teacher ever. Hell he could probably teach me calculus and I wouldn’t feel like an idiot.
hahaha 😊
Video idea 2) how to shift/climb. Timing and efficiency of shifting. How to gauge terrain. How to use the right gear to generate enough speed and when to stop pedaling on a climb.
That is a great idea! I just wrote it down! also love the other two ideas as well. Thank you so much!
Thank you again for the good info .I was thinking that you two are so nice to each other in these video's maybe you might consider some tips on kindness. If we all treated one another that nice what world it would be.Thank you my MTB buddies
Thanks Aka! We try really hard but definitely have our moments like anyone. I think the biggest thing for us has been a really strong foundation of trust together and that plus really loving each other makes us genuinely happy to see progress and have fun with it. We just want to see each other succeed and be there to support it :)
Your practice ground looks awesome!
Thanks Jess! Yeah we use the little roller derby rink at eagle bike park!
great video again! and thumbs up for my coach Robbert (flowMTB) for starting off with excactly this skill, before progressing to Drop(to flat) and jumping. i also found that relaxing my body in the air makes for less chance on a "dead sailor" as well as a much more smooth landing. as you said, i was way to tense ,and resisted the landings, instead of absorbing it.
Thats so cool to hear! Give Robbert a big high five from us! Thats so cool he had you focus on it early. So few people ever even think about the landing part haha
thats awesome love it..
Thank you!
beats me why this channel doesn't have many subscribers!
thank you for the video ! :-)
