I often do the same thing. Once in a month I visit a elderly house for talk and take care of the elderly people and I listen their historys. Wow! What you did with your grandpa here is so beautiful. He seems like an amazing person that lived a long and meaningful life. He would have been so proud of the man you grew up to be and so over the moon that you took such an interest in his life. The way you talk about him reminds me of my grandpa. He passed away when I was a young kid, but I always think about how I would have loved to talk about his life with him and learn as much as possible had he lived long enough for me to be in my 20’s. I haven't met my grandpa since the day I was born but I was lucky to meet my three grandma's who taught me a lot of things about life. I remember when I was in junior high school I travel back home for 1 hour from school just to eat with my grandmother and we talk about what happened to school during that day and she just supported me. Though I was not able to meet my Grandpa, may lola/grandma always tell me that I was just like him a huge guy - a muscle man. That's really what I missed about my grandma but she's gone too she died 2016 when I was in grade 9 today I was in 3r Yr college oftentimes I just lost motivation I Dont know where to open this. But when I feel down I usually play the song that she loves that we both love. I just missed them. It makes me feel proud that you've been able to interview your lolo/grandpa zach. Not just interview but a heart to heart talk! Sending my hugs zach all the way from the Philippines.

Wow! As if you felt his passing away, you met him one month before. I also study abroad and I visited my grandpa before coming back to Germany where I study and then I learned that he passed away a couple of days later. :( People don't stay forever with us but our memories with them do. 💙😓
