Thankd for the videos, fyi i was able to pull that 3 tab lock ring out using a small pick that starts at a 45° angle for 3/8" and then 90° angle out to the side about 1/4", this one worked great for this.

Curmudgeon - regarding the problematic snap ring holding the sungear to the direct drum, check out ATRA's video by Bill Brayton. Google '07 vts bb 62TE compounder disassembly pt 1. I guess the take-away is to use the right snap ring plyers, and pull up on the sungear at the same time.

Yeah. I have been trying to find those snap ring pliers. I believe they are made by MAC tools. Have talked with the guy that does our route. He does not carry any on his truck that are small enough to fit in there. Have looked through the catalogue and not found them. If I order a pair and they are not right I just got a pair of snap ring pliers I may never need, lol. I was pretty sure I have seen an article that had the part number but I cannot seem to find it. I use a long skinny screw driver that works fairly well. Some suggest a paper clip. If anyone knows the part number for those pliers he is using let me know I would appreciate it.

@@CurmudgeonTransmission Page 72 of the ATSG shows a small snap ring pliers for this procedure, and if you go the special tools section it appears that the pliers are Mac Tools TP 15P. Obviously I can't be 100% sure, and the pic on pg 72 also shows possibly using a pick. I see the above Mac piece available. But again, it might also require the pick, and two sets of hands, with the helper simultaneously pulling up on the sungear, Bill Brayton did it with just the pliers, in literally like 5 seconds. D.

Curmudgeon - do you know when Mopar started putting the non-rotational ring low drum in the 62TE in production? Thanks, D.

So the drum couldn’t stand the load and broke into pieces?

Which drum? If you are talking about the low clutch drum it wears on the ring lands real bad because of the material it is made out of. They make an updated drum that is better.
