  • Hey guys,
I know this is very different from what i usually do, but i really wanted to do more this 2016. We will start creating and producing documentary videos, whether long or short, documenting stories that are speak of our present or raise awareness and hopefully serve as time capsules for future generations.
Here is my first video in collaboration with the good hearted people of Kiehl's Philippines.
More info below and the whole story can be found on thefatkidinside.com
make sure to get on their facebook page as well

    Erwan
It is a well-known fact all over the world that Kiehl’s is a company committed to giving back. With philanthropy ingrained in the brand’s DNA, the very experience of shopping at Kiehl’s is defined by the need to take care of one’s skin, as well as to support its multiple charitable initiatives. “ Kiehl’s Gives” is the global platform that the company uses to push forth its key altruistic endeavors: the fight against HIV/AIDS to children’s causes, and, finally, the environment. A fervent commitment established by its founding family, the “Mission of Kiehl’s ”is to nurture the communities in which it serves its patrons.
Annually, Kiehl’s raises funds and awareness for its philanthropic pillars by partnering with influential figures in society-including the likes of Brad Pitt, Alicia Keys, Julianne Moore, and Pharrell Williams, among many others- to develop programs and create limited edition products that benefit charitable organizations around the world.
The beginning of any Kiehl’s collaboration is simple: It starts with a common vision to support community-building initiatives. It is this shared desire to give back that the brand and its influencers act upon, forging real partnerships to give back to the society together.

Documentary is an eye opener. This is not a charity program. Giving them money or food is not obliged for any journalist or documentarist. But showing the true story with good intentions of the documentarist is enough to give them some pride and hope in what they are doing.

Lumaki ako sa Payatas. About 100m yung lapit namin dun sa Smoky Mountain. Back in 2000s, sobrang saya kong lumaki sa lugar na yan, never kong naisip na kawawa kami, believe me, kapag lumaki ka sa payatas, you will be sharp, hinding hindi ka maloloko ng tao, kahit anong hirap, wala lang sa'yo, and once you experience a little convenience, you value it, a small amount of money ay pinapahalagahan mo. When I was a kid, never ako naawa sa kalagayan namin. Not until I go to college. College life killed my confidence, I realized how poor we are. Don't just give donations, hindi sila matuto niyan.
By the way, I enjoy watching this video.

A very heart wrenching video. I grew up with abundance of food at the table (I am classified as obese but currently working on it). Slept in air-conditioned room almost everyday (we had times we just settle for electric fan due to rising electric bill costs) and studied in a prestigious school up until college (I don't know how my parents paid for it but know we are deep in debt that time). Yes, these issues are very open and rampant in my academic years but after that...I turned a blind eye because I was also dealing problems of my own, not knowing that their problems are like ten or hundred folds of what I am experiencing right now.

I somehow disagree kay ate Josie because based on my pov, living in provincial areas is a better option than living in Payatas. First of all, they can plant crops and other kinds of vegetables for them to eat, also, there are public schools den naman sa province eh, instead of Payatas na pinagtityagaan nila yung pagpag baka magkasakit pa sila...God bless these people.

Thanks for putting this together, Erwan. I just moved from 25 years living in the excess world of New York City to Jakarta/Bandung in Indonesia, and this documentary is so hard to watch because the issue is so real and often times ignored due to the sheer overwhelming "real-ness" of it all that most of us just feel helpless to feel that we can make a difference. However, my problems ARE NOTHING compared to what these people face everyday. Thank you Erwan -- I am inspired.

I have been experiences living in payatas for 2 mos. and I must say that, those 2mos of my life was the best part of me. when you live there you won't hear any judgemental or degrading from other people cause they are all fair to each other. There I see the bigger picture of life. that I never seen. There I realize how important education is. Living there is simple and wonderful I must say, cause you dont have to think of what phone you need just to feel belong. If you get me. I really love that place caus that taught me a lot that what I am now, it's because people there made me realize a lot of things.

This place is neither fitted for human dwellng nor even in making a living,, so let's rather help them find ways to leave that miserable place than showing them any sign of our approval to their justifications of keeping themselves there. If wild animals can survive in the jungle simply with the gifts of nature, how much more to man who was gifted with a superior mind.

One problem that can be solved is educating these folks about birth control. It's not logical to bring a human into a world that you cannot support. Start there and that will make a difference.

Exactly! However, most Filipinos don't have a mind of their own. They just follow whatever the church instructs them to do - like puppets. If you can't even feed yourself, why bring a child into this forsaken world?

    • @kaiminamoto
      @kaiminamoto Před 6 lety +14

ii Cherry Bigotry? Obviously, you are referring to yourself, right? Philippines is full of bigots.
It doesn't take rocket science to figure out what's wrong with the country. The major cause of poverty in the Philippines is overpopulation compounded by ignorance and massive corruption. Just imagine if the population is 10 million instead of 103 million. Jobs wouldn't be so much of a problem, right?
I also noticed that most Filipinos are in complete denial of their situation and have the audacity to blame the government for all of their misfortune.
Hungry and no job? Why bring a bunch of children into this world then? The ignorance that the poor Filipino possess astounds me.

kuya, baka naman kasi iba ang meaning ng happiness mo, sa happiness ng iba. kung sayo po night life ang happiness mo then go lang po, pero di porket yun po opinion mo eh yun na po ang totoo. and parang ang sama naman po na sabihin mo 'tanga' lang ang nakakatagal sa probinsya, we have 81 provinces, so meaning lahat ng mga tao na andun tanga? in fact mas masisipag sila, hindi katulad ng mga taong hindi kayang magtagal dun.

This video is so hard to watch but it's an eye opener for all of us, specially those who are wealthy and those who are lucky to eat at least 3 times a day. This actually made me realize that i'm lucky because my parents can provide for, not just our needs but also our wants 😔This video made me really sad 😔 Kuya Erwan, i hope to see more videos like this in your channel ☺️

im so proud of what you are doing here Erwan! i truly hope with the upcoming administration, they can do something about this. I mean the first and foremost who should be helping these people are the government. They should be able to give them at least sustainable jobs and of course at least a lending hand when it comes to the finance. I mean I'm aware that some countries, they have governments who provide assistance and help, especially to those with disabilities and single parents. They should also give them more access to education, as to some of them suffers from lack of education. I'm praying and hoping that our country will progress more not just in the economic standpoint but also to the people of this country, that they will be given at least what the our government had forgotten to provide.

I also can't imagine a guy like you who maybe some people thought raised in a well-to-do family and totally a different surrounding could come to this kind of place and explore the unfathomed degree of poverty.
