the composer did an amazing job with picking out the mainline songs and incorporating them. he did such a great job that i can actually PICTURE which music cue was for which scene. hats off to them.

@@juanandresbergueszacur7132 I think I teared up BECAUSE I was there with friends-- always been fond of the spinoffs and characters, but some of the friends I was going with were like, lifelong main series fans too. Sharing those emotions with 'em really just made it all the more special I think!

The Darklands also has Deep Dark Galaxy.
Along with Deep Dark Galaxy, Darklands also has SMW ghost house theme and SMB3 Castle theme (only for brief moment).

My biggest complain with the Sonic the Hedgehog movies is that they barely use any of the videogames music, when they have AMAZING themes. I am super glad they actually adapted a bunch of themes from the whole franchise for the Mario movie. I loved it.

That was DEFINITELY one of my biggest complaints as well. I would LOVE for the computers to incorporate the Sonic music from the games into the soundtrack in future movies' soundtracks.

The thing with the Mario movie is that Nintendo actually had a big part in the creation, while the sonic movies it was bassicly paramount so they had to pay alot of money to use the music
What surprised me most was the use of Fury Bowser’s theme (18:29). That game only came out in 2021, after the Mario Movie was even announced!
I also figured that the movie would mostly focus on legacy content for wide audience appeal. Glad to see they covered all generations of the franchise!!

I’m glad they didn’t just use music straight from the games, they actually made cinematic renditions of the themes which is amazing. I’m starting to collect vinyl records of my favorite movie’s soundtracks and I sincerely hope they make this soundtrack into one

I like that Brian Tyler made an original motif for the movie, based on the well know Mario theme, that not only helps to glue together the whole movie, but also the classic game themes.
His own theme is already so memorable and recognizable, he did incredible work with this soundtrack.
That _tiny_ little lilt of Luigi's Mansion made me indescribably happy. When I saw the bit of Luigi in the Darklands during the trailers, I was so hoping they'd sneak a little nod to the series in there somehow.
Maybe there could be a Luigi's mansion spin off

damn i didnt have kids screaming but they all sounded happy, it seemed like both the adults and kids were having a great time
then there was me shaking uncontrollably in my chair the whole time because of how happy i was
I went to a 10PM showtime, so it was just me and a bunch of other 20 year old game nerds...
when i went to see the movie there was only like 10 people there, literally no one made noise, it was very peaceful

I’m honestly super impressed with how they transformed a repetitive and arcady theme that was supposed to loop after a short amount of time into one of the most grandiose and epic themes in the movie

It’s possible that the last song “???” at 20:26 could be the “Right Clockwork Theme” from the first Luigi’s Mansion game or a variant from the second or third game, not too sure.

Every dungeon in the movie should have music from a different hardware generation.
One thing I’ll always respect Nintendo for is how they are loyal to their old music, I know it’s still the same series but some games don’t even remaster old songs and instead do completely new soundtracks. This movie was such a masterpiece ❤

I loved this movie and it was so enjoyable just hear many different songs throughout Mario’s history and be like: “Hey, it’s *insert song name* from *insert Mario game*!”

This is amazing! I didn’t recognize them at first but glad to find out some Odyssey songs were referenced! There are a few songs that you missed that haven’t been pointed out yet! Near the final part of Welcome to the Mushroom Kingdom before the reference of King Bowser’s theme from Mario Galaxy the P-Switch song also plays and after the same King Bowser theme the music from when you begin a level in Mario Galaxy also plays!
Was so proud of myself when I listened to the soundtrack and recognised the Luncheon theme.
Also, whenever I hear the first bit of the SNES Rainbow Road reference, I always think it feels more like the GBA Rainbow Road music. I know that opening to GBA Rainbow Road is a reference to SNES Rainbow Road anyway, but just not having a beat going through that section makes at least the first part of it feel more like the GBA version to me.

I love that most of the songs were mixups and that’s what made it so unique. The second thing is the music isn’t just the old same music it’s new they made it sound different and modern which a slight remix

my friend and i have been wondering what happens if you play the main leitmotif from the movie. It works so well with the established mario songs and theres certainly something going on with it we just can't figure it out.
There was a lot more than I thought there were! Gonna have to watch the film again and listen even harder.
During "Welcome to the Mushroom Kingdom", the P-Switch theme from New Super Mario Bros. Wii plays before the King Bowser intro. I heard it while listening to the OST afterwards.
One thing that I don't think I saw here (and is possibly not on the OST), when DK is knocked out and about to topple, a piano rendition of Donkey Kong's game start music plays.(The music as DK climbs up the screen with Pauline).
Unfortunately, it's not on the OST, along with the piano rendition of the Underground theme that Bowser and Kamek play. :(
the song at 20:26 could be the Opening Movie for luigis mansion 1 they are very similar and this song plays when luigi is exploring the dark world, before he gets chased

In "Superstars", You can hear a little bit of the Ending Theme of the original "Super Mario Bros.".

I feel so grateful for the Super Mario Movie and for the way it celebrated our beloved game series that has been a staple since a lot of our childhoods.

At the end of the Athletic themes in "Fighting Tooth and Veil" there's a short reference to Chill from Dr. Mario.

Came back here after watching the movie. It was so much fun finding the Easter eggs and references in both the visuals and the music.

Idc what anyone says, this will always be one of my favorite movies. The music of the Mario games is a huge part of why I love them so much. Hopefully we’ll hear some of the Wonder soundtrack in the supposed sequel!

Towards the end of The Darklands, the Super Mario World Ghost House theme plays for a bit. It's kinda hard to hear in the middle of the chaos, but the strings really pronounce the repeating patterns that are in the intro of the original song.
I knew I heard it too! I can’t wait for the whole movie to be available for everyone to disect. There’s just so many good stuff in it 😩
@@pinkywinky911 Same!! It was so hard to keep up with all of the references and I absolutely adore that fact. For now, at least, all of the musical references can be found with the soundtrack, which was absolutely my favorite part of the movie.

I know! I was the only one out of those that I went to go see it with who had an amazing time with the soundtrack! I have to say that the starman theme, the overworld theme, hammer bros from NSMBWII, MK8 Main Menu and Athletic from SMB3 gave me so much happiness and nostalgia! They were the only ones I knew at the time but still!
15:01 - There's a tiny little reference at the end of the Gusty Gardens tune to the underground theme from Super Mario Bros. 2.
There’s a few notes of SMB’s underwater theme (when he walks past the Cheep Cheep) and some of SMB3’s card matching theme in Welcome to the Mushroom Kingdom. I think we’ll be finding more and more references for years
The underwater theme also plays during Lumalee's introduction (slowed down).

The King Bowser motif caught me so off guard when I first saw the movie

Everyone talking about Gusty Garden making them cry (which is completely valid, I did too), but here I am crying from a motif to the opening moments of my favorite Mario game (Odyssey) being included with dramatic fashion
I noticed that throughout the movie there's a main motif based on The Entertainer by Scott Joplin. I initially thought it was from the games too but I'm almost certain it's a reference to that song. I don't know why they would include it in a video game movie though.
Only thing that comes to mind is how the SMW soundtrack was heavily inspired by ragtime music.
The Entertainer did appear in Paper Mario Color Splash, but it’d be surprising to me if this was what it was referencing as this is a paper mario game and not a very liked one. It does have a great soundtrack though

I love the soundtrack and how it incorporated songs from all over the Mario franchise. The one I don't think really worked all too well and they should've maybe left the original was the Airship theme portion of King of the Koopas. The Airship theme already slaps so hard and I would've liked it better had they kept the Galaxy version.
Holly cow, so many iconic music from Mario games and Donkey Kong made it into the film that so awesome.
i loved all the references and the soundtracks being put together so great…i grew up on watching my sister play all the mario games and later on playing them also. my childhood self would be so happy to find out that later on in the years they would make a mario movie

There was definitely many more musical references but this is a pretty good selection of some of the best / most notable ones. It was enjoyable going through the movie to see all the different sounds I recognise
