      Honestly headphone jack is a make or break deal for me. If your phone doesn't have one, it's instantly off of my consideration list. I do not like wireless headphones and the headaches that come with them, the big one being the limited life span and cost to keep replacing them every handful of years. I would rather have a solid pair of wired headphones, that are reasonably priced and will last longer than a couple of years.

    It’s actually a genius move selling hardly any of these but making sure every single tech reviewer is covering the phone heavily. It’s less of a product launch and more an extended marketing campaign that should pay off when their next product has a much wider release

    Hey Linus, double clicking the lock button brings up the wallet app. Its not exactly useful since the app comes up automatically when the phone gets close to a NFC payment device, but it does something.

    • @j-monteiro
      @j-monteiro Před rokem +193

      I use it all the time in different countries as it’s faster to make payments, as not every device has a strong NFC signature to open the wallet preemptively. This way I double tap, authenticate (looking at the screen for unlocking payments) and tap the device anywhere needed to make payments, saving some seconds. I wish, however, I didn't had to do it.

    • @shaunclarke04
      @shaunclarke04 Před rokem +21

      Not it doesn’t do it automatically everywhere, it’s not really that secure because someone can easily just hold up a portable card reader next to your phone while you’re using it.
      Even where it is automatic, you still use it for loyalty cards that don’t use NFC

    • @Andreasytac
      @Andreasytac Před rokem +83

      Actually, you might have a ton of stuff in your wallet that is not NFC based.
      Also, not only is the double click taken, but there are two other methods to open the camera on an iPhone that never-used-an-iphone-Linus glanced over: back tap, and swiping in the direction of the icon he was holding instead of, well, holding it.
      With how easy it is to actually criticize something about iPhones or other Apple devices, it's amazing how often LMG manages to point out something that is just wrong instead.

    Hey Linus just a FYI! The drawing gesture to launch apps/functions was present during Carl Pei's time at One Plus. I had it on my One Plus 2. You could draw a "O" to launch the camera app, a "V" to turn on the flashlight and even media controls with drawing a "||" with two fingers pausing or playing the track and "< " or ">" for next track.
    Honestly, I really loved these drawing gestures as they work with your phone screen off and you can do it without looking. The flashlight shortcut is especially useful if you are using it in a tight space and only have one hand available and the music shortcut meant I could just reach into my pocket and change tracks and stuff without pulling my whole phone out. But like you said more options are always nice! (On the topic of buttons launching the camera app can someone other than Sony please make a dedicated camera button???? Honestly rather have that then a dedicated smart assistant key like so many phones)

    Few issues that are mentioned here like animation weirdness, screenshot annoyances, are partly due to the AOSP Android 12 which they based their OS upon. AOSP 12(and above) has been problematic with regards to Launcher animations (anything 'Quickstep' related specifically) since Day1 (No wonder pixel was buggy).
    I won't say 'at the moment', Nothing OS is like 'current oxygen os (pre oos12)' because Oxygen OS (pre-12) was kinda heavily (but extremely tastefully, practically, clean-ly) modified with so many features that are ACTUALLY useful, whereas right now, nothing feels more like Lineage OS/Pixel Experience.

As a small start up, in the UK, it probably just cost less to start with the UK, EU market. US Canadian carriers have made it that much harder and more expensive to penetrate the NA market. The big players can afford the carrier deals and accept carrier bloat. Cutting that bloat is part of the cost savings and experience on a phone like the Nothing.
      Just look at the mess Sony has gone through pulling out of the NA market and slow return and they're still not back in Canada and many SA. If the majority of North Americans would buy unlocked phones out right or on their credit card and also maybe better regulated the carriers, then it would be different. Instead the majority in their attempt to be cheap, have encouraged the situation where we all pay more. Same with the good features. This phone is pretty close to stock Android like the Pixel 6 (Pro).
    Hotspot should have its own Quick Access button below for easy enabling and disabling. (I guess those two big things at the top are NothingOS stuff?)
    Image editing looks slightly different but overall behaves the same on Android 12. (closing after editing)
    Double Press lock button for Camera is a Android (12) thing in stock.
    The touch navigation is also stock, same with the removal of the option for 2 button style or changing the 3 button order. (iirc removed in Android 10-11 already.)
    On the BT suggestion, this looks to be a stock volume setting, so with Android 12 there is actually a option where you can select where an app plays its audio, if you have multiple BT devices connected.
    Battery time remaining is also a stock Android 12 feature.

    Hey Linus, I have an "edge panel - smart selection" in my A22 that allows me to take a screenshot basically like a regular PC screenshot: you select region, press done, then can quickly edit, remove text, etc. and then share.
    Might be useful for you :D
    I also like the white Nothing better. I chose my A22 white. Partially did want something with more character, but I also got deceived by the lighting in the store and thought the white one was like a "Pearlescent" type of thing. It's not, lol. But still looking nice. Even though now I put a black case on it.
    Anyway, the Nothing white version looks like a phone a Stormtrooper would have. The black one is nice, but it would've been cool if it had some lighter grey to match and mix and you could see more details.
    Regardless, both look fine, albeit the Apple-y design around.
    If I were Nothing, I would also up the price 50-100 more to include dual decent quality speakers, and then just try to maintain the price (with a bit of design change maybe) and sell the same phone and keep updating internal hardware through the years for newer and keep improving and updating the software, most of all. Like if someone bought a Nothing today, they could have it for 4 years and it would be more or less ok.
    I also find it funny that you say "I'm right handed and use the back button a lot", which I do too, yet I suffered through all the years of Samsung making the orientation the other way because it's just not logical to me lol. Like, you read and write from left to right, then go back on the left. Samsung be like no bitch, go back on the right. Now with the A22 I'm happy I could swap them over. On the other hand, I hated the gestures with the bar. The fact that the "spectrum" of animation/gesture is not wide enough that you have to be more precise, just slows you down imo. At that point just use buttons like before.
    PS: fucking dbrand lmao
