I dont think the world needs another mitsubishi or nissan type manufacturer, honda was always playing it safe after the s2000, so we might get something good and old school like the gr86, gr yaris and similar models after the new nsx which was ahead of it time, it wouldnt be out of proportions with todays forced electrification and shit

no todays cars are fast and handles well more power, this thing cant take more than 150lbs of torque which is a joke, especially in north america where we only have straight roads

As a MR-2 Spyder owner, I roll my eyes every time someone calls S2000 or MX-5 trunk useless.
As a gen 1 Viper owner, that trunk is huge. I could go to Costco in that thing.
Have you ever seen the trunk in a Pontiac Solstice? It's small and oddly shaped.

@@jordanmcmillan2762 I actually used to go to Costco in my S2K 😅. A guy walked up to me and joked that I brought the wrong car, then five minutes latter he said if he didn't see me put that entire cart of stuff in that car he wouldn't have believed it!

Have you tried the Pontiac Solstice GXP? 2l liter turbo 260hp 260 torque from 2500 rpm to 5500 rpms. It was fun with a 5 spd manual. I traded it in for a C7 7 manual corvette Convertible with 17k miles last year.

First time I drove an S2000 was in February of ‘04, in New Hampshire, in 8 inches of freshly fallen snow. Glorious. 🤩

This car is really what Honda ever really wanted to make but they actually had to make money so Civics....but this is one of the best examples of what an engineer's car company can do if the bean counters get the heck out of the way. Perfection, period. Good luck to the lucky slob who doesn't live in NY winning this beauty!
Nothing wrong with Civics. Those had to be made in order for things like the NSX and S2K to exist. Same with Macans and Cayennes. Porsche builds those cars, even in plug-in hybrid form, so the 911 and Cayman can both be sold. Even bloody Toyota makes proper sportscars now again because they can. Not all is lost!

Honda had a lot of things that were engineering marvels my favourite thing would be the old 250 4cyl bikes that revved out to about 17-18k with cam gears instead of timing chains those things were just a marvel of engineering
@@Emfourayone Sadly, the word HAD is the reality of the company now. Their halcyon days of innovation and engineering advancement are long gone, electric vehicles aren't their forte. I hope they survive the transition though.
Well there was the Type R, which funnily is the only 'sport' car that's actually survived to this date with Honda now.

It hits VTEC and just keeps going and going and going and then when you're thinking it's surely about to hit the limiter it still has another 1000rpm left to go. Absolutely glorious

@LuisCruzKL do it. Had a FBO fg2 with a tune that revved to 8900 and shot fireballs for a while and it was ridiculously fun.
There is actually a service position for the hood- if you remove the prop, there’s another spot for it on the passenger side in the engine bay
So glad to see this remark. 🤘. Its hard to explain how to do it but ya just gotta twist the prop rod out from its normal spot and realize there is another location for it on the other side. Hidden Honda functionality engineered into several parts of this car make me appreciate it all the more.

I had a 2004 AP2. Had the power of a Honda Civic at low RPMs. And when riding with another passenger (such as a large male), you could feel the extra weight burden. But it was glorious to drive it top down on winding roads during a hot summer night.
Correction! Canadians will accept an American quarter on par any day anywhere, considering the exchange its’s generally worth 25% more than our own. That’s a small win, and I’ll take it.
i still find push button start funny as the only reason you had a start button in the 80s/90s was because your keyswitch was broken and you were to cheap to replace it.

13:09 it actually does have the service position. You pull the prop rod out and there’s a place to reinsert it closer to the firewall that will prop it in that position. Honda thought of everything

For all you prospective S2000 owners (from an owner myself)
-change the TCT with Billman.
-passenger side fender wells rust. Go ahead, check all the s2000s. You’ll see bubbles and more!
-retainers suck if you money shift too much. Replace exhaust side with ap2 retainers.
No, redline isn’t 9000 RPM. It’s 8800.
The thing is, even if Honda did remake this it wouldn't be the same, It wouldn't be high revving NA, more than likely would be 2.0 turbo like everything else.
And it would be heavier. Small cars hide SUV cope cages in the doors now.

Needs motor mounts, transmission mounts, and shifter rebuild tbh I owned many s2000's

Mr. Regular - S2k owner here. The stock hood prop can be used to raise the hood to almost 90 degrees, you just have to twist it around. There is a hole in the hood where it is supposed to go.

Got 200k+ on my AP1. I change the oil and just did the clutch for the first time. I love that car.

Man. While I'm still enjoying these videos, I am really finding myself missing the old format. The monolouge/rant over a montage type stuff. But also understand that there were probably good reasons for the change.
Been watching for ten years now. I remember the Good Old Days™ of weird RCR. I probably bought my Miata because of The Video, lol. Certainly been interesting to see how it's changed over the years.
Recent C3 vette video is almost like that, old RCR is not all gone

I like the new RCR! It's great to apply the standard format a little more loosely. There's less hidden jokes but more relaxing to watch.
13:10 There IS a service position for the hood rod, it comes out if you wiggle it and there is a secondary hole it goes into right above the fuse box in front of the battery. There is a small anchor right behind the passenger side front wheel shock tower. It pushes the hood almost straight up when servicing the engine. 👍
17:05 That trunk "divet" supposed to have a flat tool tray to install the spare tire. Once you've installed the space saver, you're supposed to remove the tool tray and the round bottomed divet is shapped perfectly so you can bring your full size wheel and flat tire back inside of closed trunk
Locking yourself in the trunk is a bold move with those aggressive toots you had earlier in the video.
Other youtubers use boxes to test trunk scale but Mr.RCR uses human body to test trunk scale
If Honda makes a S2000 again, please make it affordable... I dont need the biggest ipad you can make in the center of the dash. I just need a cool driving experience. Sadly even back then the S2000 was a fairly pricey option compared to it's competitors. It was always priced quite a bit higher than the Miata, so I'd imagine making a new S2000 wouldn't be cheap
@@cheezeball2517 S2000 was more premium than the Miata. It was mainly competing with the Z3/Z4, Boxster, and SLK for the most part which were monumentally more expensive. Late in the 2000s, there was the Chrysler Crossfire base model which cost the same as the S2000 and there was the Solstice/Sky Turbos which cost around $7500 less.
So really only 1 real car in it's class could undercut it.
Seeing the voice-over recording was a real treat.
I've owned a lot of interesting cars, Challenger 492. MB AMG CLS63. Z4 M Roadster. 370z. 540i 6spd. Lots of others. To this day, my favorite car I have owned is a 2001 S2000, before they went to the 2.2 and the revised rear end suspension. Just a fabulous car.

Dude, you can take the hood prop out and move it to the passenger side and there is a hole on the hood for a service position. I'm sure you can look it up. If not i can send you a picture from when we were working on mine and I did it.

Closest thing I have to an S2k is my B16a EK. And I can haul a ton of luggage with and without the seats folded. I'm not complaining.
But ya Honda needs some high revving engines again.
When these first came out I was young close minded Cobra Mustang enthusiast. These cars have grown over the years to be one of my absolute favorite now. The sounds that come from that engine Bay make me want to touch myself LOL.

There is another hidden interior compartment. That center one has a latch in the top that opens the whole top piece. I had mine for 3 years before I found it lol

LeMans start key positioning is also to free up your right hand to be able to put the vehicle in to gear immediately after or while starting the engine.
IIRC, the divot in the trunk is so if you have a flat on the road, you can put the damaged (OEM) wheel and tire into the trunk by removing the tools/scissorjack from that divot.

My uncle has one of these, but an earlier model year. You're absolutely right about it being pretty boring for the passenger; you just kinda sit there and watch the driver enjoy the car -- it's like going over to that one friend's house, when you're 8, who only plays one-player video games, so you just end up sitting there watching him play, and you start to wonder what your other friends are up to, and if this type of behavior will ever change.
Same with an MR2 to be completely honest

The s200 actually does have a hood service position. You have to take the hood stay out of the rubber mount and take it about half way up the left side of the engine bay. There is a spot near the front passenger tire that’s it meant to hold the bottom of the hood stay. The hood also has a mounting spot for the service position.

The reason the start button is separate from the key is for safety purposes when racing. In the event you stall the car in an accident people tend to panic and misuse the key. It's a gimmick based on a real purpose. I imagine the reason it's on the left is to keep it from the passenger since you can damage the starter if you attempt to use it as a engine off button
I don't know who reviews the s2000 more - Regular Car Reviews or Doug Demuro.
My theory in regards to the push start being on the left side; you will save a couple of seconds starting the car by using your left hand to push the button, while having the right hand on the shifter ready.
The “divot” in the trunk is to fit a full size OEM wheel and tire if you get a flat, it fits perfectly.
The theory behind the button on the left is if you spin on track and stall, you can shift to first with your right and start with your left.
The top safety is not tied to the clutch or gear, it is tied to the speedometer, over a certain (very slow) speed it won’t let it go up or down.
@@MasterLudoyou are right! I forgot about the ebrake lol. Which is funny because mine is modded to not have the speed limit but still need the ebrake so if I’m going very slow I can pull up the ebrake one click and operate the top.
FYI you need to pull out the hood prop and reposition it to hold it service position, and the divot in the trunk is designed to hold the wheel with the flat tire
Front engine, fitted in the correct, longitudinal orientation, driving the correct wheels, i.e. the rear wheels, stick a manual in-between, how hard can it be to do that? If you're building a sports car, that is the correct way to start. Everything else is a fudge.
I was autocrossing with me and my friends we all had Corollas and Miata’s, then one guy pulls up with this, heavily modded, took turns super quick finished the course in under 29 seconds, the average time was 36 seconds

We knew just about everything about the S2000 already. We didn't know that Mr. Regular can actually fit inside the trunk of an S2000 and that he can escape the trunk if he is locked inside of it. The completion of the understanding of the S2000 has progressed through work that could only be done by Regular Car Reviews.

In the RHD version, the button is right next to the ignition key slot, as the dash layout is mirrored, but the key remains on the right side.
